Back on serve 4-5, Andreeva to serve......and 5-5, now - here it is....for either.

Oh man - another twist and turn here, as both ladies have shown some nerves....SP, Boisson now.

She started off with Poisson eating out of the palm of her hand.
Then slowly she started to play nervous cat and mouse Poisson-style tennis. :(
Mirreeva ™ has gone total AWOL!

Welp - have to get to some commitments. Enjoy the rest of the match, ladies and gentlemen - Boisson guts it out to take it 7-6 (8).

Have a feeling this will go three sets, but we'll see. A good battle despite nerves from both.

Possible? Yes. Likely? No.
And why not ? Is it that hard for you to imagine that there some people (not many) who are actually willing to put that kinda work into their fitness?
Plus some relatively good genes, likely

To be clear: could she be juicing? Of course, who knows. Is she definitely juicing? No, while impressive, her physique is not so extraordinary that it’s ‘proof’ by any means. Then again, people claiming that it’s ‘definite’ probably claim the same about players like Sakkari, or Nadal

All the French needed was for a woman to play top level tennis here and not be nervous or crumble under the weight of expectations.
The crowd does the rest (harass the opponent to death, etc.).
They didn't manage it with Mauresmo or Garcia, but with Boisson they might have found the perfect specimen.

How bad is the jeering, I can't watch with sound while at work. Is it just between points or literally mid toss (as I've seen in other rowdy matches)?

Easy to gut it out when the crowd jeers your opponent during a fault causing a double fault and the chair umpire says nothing. Shameful behaviour. Boisson likely to win in straights now. How awful for tennis that was.

??? - I know this isn’t the first time you’ve watched the French Open. Why so much surprise?
Not surprised, just disgusted. Chair umpires also usually say something while this one has not. Mirra even asked for it when she got jeered after her fault which caused a double fault. Silence from the chair ump. Disgusting.

It’s awful. I feel for Andreeva. The French crowd didn’t even care for Boisson 2 days ago against Pegula and the crowd was 3/4 empty, now they care and want to do this? Shameful. Worst crowd in tennis by a country mile.

If you focus more on how Boisson is playing and try to not get distracted by the (expected) partisan crowd, it’s actually quite a good match. Better than Gaugf-Keys
Oh of course it’s a better match, Andreeva has played fantastic and Boisson is playing lights out with help from the crowd. So much better than the earlier match. I just don’t like seeing crowds treat players this way and chair umpires yet again being inconsistent. The chair umpire should’ve said a long time ago, ladies and gentlemen please remain silent during and in the lead up to the points.

Instead nothing.

Anyway, off to bed.

Dude, you’re obsessing over this. Partisan crowds are nothing new. As if the USO or AO crowds are that much better when they have a compatriot doing well.

Meanwhile the tennis is actually pretty fun

Yeah, as I say, this crowd tilts the court about 20% in favour of French players. They just needed someone who, instead of crumbling, feeds on it.
But it's really not fair considering how many Russian players (for instance) would benefit from this if they had a home Slam.

They are better and the chair umpires actually caution the crowd. Quit acting like this isn’t terrible. Chair umpires will say ladies and gentlemen please have respect for the players.

This has not happened once. Andreeva got jeered after a fault and served a double fault. Nothing happened. Then she got booed when she asked the chair umpire to do something.

I only watched the tiebreak from 5(*)-3 Boisson (with the sound off). Quite an ugly error from Mirra to lose her set point! The whole point looked badly constructed. That definitely looked like she's off her game a bit.

Anyway, I heard somebody compare her to Stosur and Sakkari. The comparison with Stosur seems quite apt, style wise (and also fitness wise, actually). Not as fluid a mover as Stosur was at her best though.

Funny you should bring up Sakkari... remember when she had all the signs and that coincided with her best playing ever? Now she doesn't look as big, definitely less definition, and she sucks. Why doesn't she just go back to the gym?

You mean she should get back on testosterone?

Terrible? Seriously? Pretty minor really compared to having coins thrown at you or having shiny objects reflect into your eyes.

I finally turned on the volume to hear 14 people in the crowd cheer when Mirreeva wins a point.
Poisson is trying to suck Mirreeva into playing Poisson-style tennis again.

sad scenes on Chatrier. I think we take for granted that the crowds won’t have much of an impact in the later rounds, but that’s mainly because the French are so inept and never get there.

The crowd is absolutely wild (in a negative way) and having an incredible impact on the match. The roof being up makes everything sound twice as loud, too, just a cauldron of hatred. Mirra is just 18, nothing could’ve prepared her for this.
