Carlos problem will always be his height and serve. Dude is a midget. You can’t dominate the game being a midget. 6 foot is the barometer of the last 25 years. If you’re below it you’re screwed. You’ll have success but you will never dominate. It requires too much work on the service games. The big 3 were larger men. Sampras was a larger man. Sinner is a larger man. That’s required

They have to do it now, while Sinner is away...

Omg Jack! I thought this started later so thought I’d have to sleep through but could have watched smh

What a shock. Hope he can win the thing now

Jack has as lethal a leftie slice serve from the ad court as I have seen; opponents have to take it so far outside the court unless they are going to try and take it early.
Yah man, hopefully keeps injury free, should make his presence felt to climb up the rankings. Excellent run here by Jack, getting through to his first M1000 final - must be most satisfying after his woes earlier this year. It's great to see Jack developing confidence / momentum.

Thought that Alcaraz probably had it in the bag when he upped his level to bagel Draper in the 2nd. Kudos to Jack for not panicking, upping his own level and staying the course.

So there will be no three-peat for Carlos or Meddy in finals at IW. Both fell at the semi-final hurdle.
Copy that - remaining focused, converting chances is key, and Jack will rightly be proud of staying grounded enough to get the job done. Strange match, with extended peaks / troughs in the first 2 sets for each, a more closely contested 3rd. Disappointed for Carlitos that he couldn't capitalise on his chances better/had so many unforced errors.
As a fan, I accept the potential for inconsistency when he plays , but am still a tad befuddled - suffering a breadstick in the 1st, dishing out a bagel in the 2nd, then fecking about in the 3rd getting broken twice, only to break back to deny Jack the win at 5-2 .....
Still, ever onwards! Hope Carlitos can enjoy a good result in Miami.

Jack / Holger. 2 under 23 year olds contesting the 1st M1000 final of the year. It should be a cracker if they both play well.

heck yeah!...team dunlop 4 life...revelation 200g, aerogel 100, current cx 200 16x19...versatile, great touch, just all-around classic rackets. would love to see draper take this!

The two he did win last year were very lucky and he could have easily lost them both. Neither were remotely convincing at all. He’s lucky he got by sinner, tiafoe and Zverev. And then he starts this year losing to grandad djokovic
As mentioned
Won 2 slams last year on different surfaces at such a young age. But sure, you’re not overreacting

I thought maybe Carlos came into the match overconfident and then he got pummeled by the high level of Draper which he didn’t expect. But in his interview today, he seems to have said that the reverse was true. He was so scared and nervous of facing Draper that he played poorly as a result. Things that make you go ‘Hmm!’

I can’t imagine any of the Big 3 making a comment like this after a loss to a lower seeded player. Won’t it reduce the fear of him in the locker room and tremendously boost Draper’s confidence especially in future encounters? Even if true, what is the point of saying this in the media?

I was thinking that after his loss to Nadal at IW in 2022, he rebounded nicely to win Miami and maybe he can repeat the feat this year especially without Sinner around. But this comment makes me scratch my head wondering where his head is going to be at next week!

Draper is already 23 years old.
:D

Drapers backhand may be his most lethal shot. So much effortless power.

His best, I would argue, but not his most lethal - he does a lot more damage with his forehand. However Jack's backhand was able to handle the mighty spin of Charlie's forehand often beautifully. It is fairly compact and his height helps to straighten it with margin.

Even seasoned tennis fans undervalue the backhand of a lefty and overvalue his forehand. The numbers have long shown that Jack is a top 10 player and now his increasing physical prowess enables him to demonstrate it more and more.

If Alcaraz won this match it would have been a disaster (n)
because he'd either win the Final and be accused of taking advantage of Sinner's absence
or he'd lose in the Final thus damaging his excellent conversion rate
so losing in the Semis was the best possible outcome for Alcaraz (y)
