Props to Swiatek for getting the win. 25 consecutive wins at a grand slam is hugely impressive, anyway we look at it.

That missed smash from Rybakina when she had a break point at 2-1 in the 2nd set, seem to shift the momentum in Swiatek's favour.

I can't say I was impressed with the 'she didn't ask you to check' comments from Swiatek, when the umpire overruled the Rybakina double fault call.

I saw that Rybakina has lost 7 out of her last 8 deciding 3rd sets in grand slam matches. Despite her seemingly calm demeanour, she can play increasingly tensely, and her serving seems to noticeably decline, during crunch moments in tough grand slam matches.

RG multiple champions are always granted the freedom to embrace their signature quirks.
You should consider that she has no need to engage in wedgie-adjusting rituals, as her mentor has already perfected the art.

Always the same thing. They utterly dominate 95% of the match but they turn into UE machines as they near the finish line.
No match point this time, but she was up 6-1 2-0, double-break points for 3-0. And then, total collapse. Swiatek didn't do anything that big to turn the match around. The 2nd set and the last 3 games of the match were simply horrid. Rybakina self-destructed. In even worse ways than Muchova and Osaka.

Most players move locations to return between 1st and 2nd serve.
What’s not to understand.
 
wow, what a choke by fishakina... saw her giving igor a breadstick and went to take a quick happy nap, only to wake up to this disaster... hopefully, "slava ukraini" takes igor out to the cleaners next

Unlikely. She isn't losing to Svitolina and she isn't losing in the final either if she makes it.
Only potential exit door will be the Semifinal (Sabalenka or Zheng).
 
When will umpires finally start punish iga for hindering her opponents? She took it to another level in her match against rybakina. How many times can she tap the court with the racket during the point? In a first set Iga did it repeatedly without no reason. Once again, kirilenko got her warning for the same during the AUS open, iga continues to do it without getting anything. This awful antic and her doping case make her the most disgraceful player in the history of women's tennis.

As I've always said about Swaitek, I think she is a bit overrated. This is meant to be her court, her slam, yet she is at the mercy of Rybakina's level, hoping it comes down.

@Hitman, whether Iga wins this year's RG or not, she proved with this match that she is a tenacious fighter. It should also be noted that she faced one of her toughest opponents in terms of matchup. Bad matchup, bad start to the match, but Iga didn't give up and fought through to win.

I do give her credit, because as I stated, there is not a single player right now who has a better baseline level game than hers, meaning you always have to play good tennis. I don't doubt her mental strength, she has that, when I say what I do, it is because I feel very strongly that her best can get beat by the best of many other elite level players. Rybakina's issue is, she doesn't have the consistency of Swiatek, her actual peak level is higher, Iga was at her mercy and needed for her to start missing to get her a stronger grip on the match....mentally she hung in, waited and did what she needed to do, credit for that.
 
I really hope that we see a healthy, happy, confident Rybakina back and competing for the biggest prizes in the future. When it comes to contenders for the biggest titles, the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned. When the news broke about her hiring Ivanisevic as her coach, I was cautiously optimistic there, but we know what unfolded next.

She beat Sabalenka 4 times out of 6 on hard courts from 2023-2024, with the 2 matches that she lost going to 3 sets (admittedly that included the most important match out of the 6), and she has caused Swiatek problems on clay. And of course she is a former Wimbledon champion, so she is certainly has the ability to be a threat on all surfaces.

But as I said before, her record in 3rd sets in grand slam matches in general, including the way that her serving has seemed to decline during those crunch moments, is a concern.
 
Igas lack of sportsmanship even for clear winners and self judged double faults was disgraceful like a twitchy and selfish teen.
A shame she does not try to emulate her hero Nadal when it comes to fairness and being more of a class act than an angry robot.

Rybakina will never win the RG never finishing the point at the net and run down anything faster than average wheelchair tennis pros.
She is like a Girafe submerged fully underwater. She needs Pam Shriver another Big Bird that moved well for her size and had great volleys.
