Completely agree - shades of the Djokovic-Alcaraz semi a few years ago where Carlos was teleporting across the court to get every ball back, but clearly expending a lot more energy doing so. First set was a pyrrhic victory for Musetti - won the battle, not the war.
Agassi said in his book he once lost an hour and 10 min first set to bagdatis but knew he'd won the match as he knew he had taken his legs

I recall the days players slugged it out for bo5 for davis cup willingly
Narcissist gens just want to be pampered no intestinal fortitude
Recall Hewitt going to switzerland and copping abuse yet outlasted
Fed and crowd. Next went to Brazil and got spat on and beat current
RG champion Kuerten in straight sets with disgusting hostile crowd.
He was just one of hundreds of players that went all out in DC and
yet now it is so often we see players just give up, pathetic.

Very good

I recall Andy Murray going 5.5 hrs on bad hip in ao.

You are the problem exaggerating things. This is case by case basis. Musetti sucks physically and those who watched early 2000s should come forward and tell who of that time sucked physically.

I always maintained that Musetti is not a slam material and he’s proving me right, fans like @Rosstour shouldn’t expect much from him.
He isn't. He does not have the weapons. Sure he can redline for a bit and the smoke and mirrors tricks people into thinking he has something. But even if he did have weapons, he physically and mentally is not there. Flashes don't win you slams.

A Musetti is a good player in the likes of ADM and his ceiling is Ruud.

Bummer. Sad end to the match. Still not sure about Alcaraz’s level. Those first two sets were like the Shelton and Dzumhur matches. Aimless, errant tennis with no real game plan. Can’t afford that in the final, whoever he plays.
Tbh, I think Djoker’s got him again if they happened to meet in the Final. He’d coax just enough errors out of him, the demons would come back, suddenly he’d be SP down in a blink. Alcaraz is just too green to beat Novak reliably.

Sinner is a little more unclear. He’s clearly the better player than Novak on paper, but Alcaraz also tends to raise his level and play a more serious game against him. He feels more competitive in that matchup for whatever reason.

And my next prediction is Fonseca is not a slam material either, people got offended hearing this. His flaws are apparent in his game.
Too early to call, but I tend to agree. The gaps in his movement and the movement of every other top100 guy are so obvious. But to be fair, he does look like he’s not through with puberty, so perhaps once he leans out things will change.

Dude this is the SF of a major. He made it further than "alpha" players like Draper, Fils, Fonseca and Rune
That ending will leave a sour taste in the mouth, but Musetti is clearly an excellent player and he’s had a great clay season. Just a really fun addition to the tour - who gives a fig whether he wins a Slam or not. Tennis’ future looks a hell of a lot brighter than it did a few years ago

Carlos plays with his food too much. I think he'll be more focused against the best, or at least I hope so, because when he's locked in he peaks higher than anybody IMO.

Everyone is pointing out that if Carlos plays like this in the finals then he is toast. I am so glad that his form dipped today rather than in the final. So he will be ready for the final. He has a very good shot as Djoker/Sinner will kill themselves in getting to the final and Carlos will be ready.

And look what happened to Hewitt the second half of his career: plagued with injuries. The game has gotten more and more physical over time and a lot more bo5 matches will just shorten careers.

Agassi is proving himself as a commentator - IMO way better than Courier so far. Almost seems like Courier to some degree has forgotten how it was down there battling on the court
Totally disagree. Courier's in-depth analysis is second to none, but I think it's funny how many people here think they know tennis better than Courier. Agassi is fine, but his stoic monotone is poor presentation. He needs to show a lot more emotion to be a good commentator.

Musetti plays some of the most physical matches. It's not surprise that he gets winded himself

That next step is never taken. Maybe he is on the cusp, but it is becoming a theme where he has to redline against top guys and that destroys him physically.

He is giving his all and leaving it all on the court. We cannot ask for more.

Yeah, his stamina/conditioning doesn't look as good as Sinner's, but Sinner just got back from a doping ban and as much as I love Carlos, he's not natty either....so let's be careful with the height of the pedestals we're putting them on

Courier's shrillness and voice-raising and constant "joking" are unsettling. Agassi's monotone allows you to focus on his words and not "this F'ing guy" who sounds like he's a Nadal fan who had a couple drinks

Wonder if he was even hurt or just too lazy to want to fight to take back the match after losing that tiebreak. I wouldn’t put it past this generation at all to do that

We have seen Musetti being in a very positive situation to then completely fall off as soon as there's something major at stake far too often.

Wins 20 slams and mentally has been shown to be weak at times... but is not supremely talented? Rafa won 2 slams more than him, is known for clutch play and hard work... so neither was he?
Rafa had 3 slams and 9 Masters at 21. Federer had 1 Masters. Federer was nearly 22 before he won his first slam. You are expressing your opinion instead of relying on the basic facts. Rafa was also getting further than the 1st round in slams, and Federer hardly got beyond the first round.

As has been the case all tournament long, we did get s glimpse of peaklitos too. May he appear a little bit more in the final please.

I hope he is healthy for grass. Want to see if he can take the next step on grass like you think he can. Really need him to find another level. Tennis needs him, was hoping today he could have shown more.

I agree with you there. Don’t see the hype with Fonseca - clearly a talented ball-striker but looks somewhat middling athletically. Still plenty of time to develop, but my hopes aren’t all that high
Nothing a cream massage can't improve tbh. There was a very similar player once on tour not too long ago.
