Here we are.

Another slam final and what a beauty it is.

The #1 Sabalenka vs the #2 Gauff. Our first slam final between the top 2 players in the world since the 2018 Aus Open!

Sabalenka the reigning US Open champ and a 3x slam champ overall vs the reigning WTA Finals champ and former US Open champ Gauff.

These two have played eachother 10 times and the H2H is split at 5-5.

Their biggest match? That 2023 US Open final. Which Gauff won in 3 sets.

Their last match was 2 weeks ago in the Madrid final which Sabalenka won in straight sets.

Who you got?

In theory, Sabalenka has won the trophy already. In reality, anything can happen. I think Gauff can beat her but she has to be very disciplined and keep her composure. Easier said than done, but not impossible.

Didn't we say that about the Australian Open final though?

Sabalenka was in epic form. 2x defending champ, Smoked every opponent in straights bar Pavlycuhenkova in the QF while Keys should've been tanked after that epic in the SF against Swiatek which was after the epic in the QF against Svitolina and the 3 setter against Rybakina in the 4R as well.

But alas, something else happened.

Wow I'm surprised by the poll results being so lopsided. A very 50-50 match on paper to me. Rooting for Coco IF she plays nice and intelligent tennis (because yes, all her matches are not unwatchable slugfests...) . Otherwise if Sabalenka clearly looks like the better player off the ground then I'll be cool with Aryna winning. She would completely deserve it as well. By far the best player in 2025 overall... But... She can lose finals still...

I guess for me, Sabs beat Gauff rather straight forward in Madrid in the final 3 weeks ago on clay. She’s gotten slam revenge on Gauff since that 2023 US Open final loss after she best her at the next slam at the Aus Open in the SF in straight sets.

She’s been the #1 and a darn good one for a while so I think that’s why the poll results.

Didn’t mention it in the original post but Sabalenka is looking to be the first woman since Ash Barty to win 3 of the 4 slams and be one away from a career slam.
She’s won the US Open and Aus Open twice.

Barty never got to attempt a career slam at the USO as she retired after her Aus Open triumph. So if Sabs does win it, she’ll be the first woman since Kerber to have won 3 of the 4 slams and try for the career slam. Something that hasn’t been done since Sharapova at RG in 2012.

Maddie can match the fire power of Aryna. Coco will have to win with her legs.

How does this thread barely have any posts?

If Gauff plays well she will frustrate the screamer as she has arguably the best mobility currently on the tour.

People citing Madrid should recall that's the most unrepresentative clay court there is in terms of RG.

I hope for a good match either way.

The two of them are both so unpredictable that it is tough to know what to think. It looks like the roof is open, which Sabalenka should be very happy with, but she can also choke. She proved that against Iga, but was able to rebound. Playing someone who excels at putting one more ball back in play is the worst kind of person to be playing if that happens again. As their US Open final proved.

Coco really impressed me mentally against Lois, but she really wasn't getting much coming back at her. Her serve percentage was still garbage, just as it was against Madi, I think of what Sabs did on return to Iga's serve, and if Coco serves like that again then she's surely toast.

Why did I get up? I thought it would be starting. Now I get to see Venus interview Sarah Jessica Parker? Lol.
Is there a delay?

Aus coverage is discussing the men's final? I thought we'd at least have the ladies on court by now, what's going on?

Rain in Paris? Some delay?

No, this seems like the plan. Tell everyone that start time is the top of the hour, put a band on at that time, and then subject you to the talking heads. Match probably won't start till half past at best. And we all fell for it.

Roof will be open to start, possible storms later but they'll wait and see apparently.

Quite cold and windy.

But seriously, did they lie about the start time?

It's rare for me to have a strong feeling going into a slam final but I do think Sabalenka has this.

Watch me be completely wrong and eating crow in 2 hours but idk, feels right for Sabs to get it done easily today and that's my tip and my bets.

I just don't see Gauff winning this.

I thought I'd turn it on and it would be a studio snippet and then the players warming up - maybe 10 min later than the posted start time. This is more delayed obviously. It's not a crazy delay at this point, but still annoying.

The TNT desk is always wacky and inconsistent. The main host is awful. But there's been some good commentary and insight at times.

Adam Lefkoe, bluetrain....yeah not my favorite either - he does NBA and a lot of NCAA Basketball for TNT/truTV.

I will have to say, Chris Evert has improved to me.....still a ways to go - but was always one of my favorite players, and I try to give fair criticism.

I do wonder what factor Gauff being in the final here 3 years ago will play in this match, could it help her or hinder her?

Going 0-2 in slam finals at a tournament is very tricky. Whereas this is Sabalenka's first RG final.

Anyway play finally to start!

You can see the difference between when Gauff gets the first serve in vs when she doesn't just from that first game.

Sabalenka attacking of course.

Gauff will need to have her serve on point.

She holds for 1-0 to start the final but!
