Love the poll - the veterans on here would all pick the last option, but many if the wet blankets have faded away

I went with Alcaraz. Can't really say why, but I feel like Zverev really hasn't done well recently, Tsitsipas is really good in MC but he's got a tough road and I'm not sure he's in the form to win again, Djokovic will be vulnerable on clay; prior to last year's SF he hadn't made the quarters since 2019. Leaves Carlos and Ruud; I trust Carlos more than Casper to find some form here. He's too good a player to not find form, and the clay-court season may be the time he does it.

Granted, he only played MC once and lost to Korda in the second round ... So probably it's just wishful thinking. I wouldn't be surprised if there is an unexpected winner or finalist.

What is @Rosstour wrong about? I do think Carlitos will bounce back on clay, but his draw isn't easy and he doesn't have a history of performing well at Monte-Carlo.
Notwithstanding the fact that Djokovic hasn't won the event in 10 years, to state that it's his trophy to lose when he's nearly 38 is frankly ridiculous.

He is the 3 seed, and came out the winner in their last meeting on RG center court...and their last meeting late in a Slam as well. Right now Djoko is in better form than Alcaraz. And I'll always favor Djoko in any match over Zverev, anywhere anytime, if Zverev even makes it that far.

That's a bit of a stretch, but not really. No one else has a) good form, b) clay skills, c) good draw and d) previous good runs at MC

Zverev - b, d (?)
Alcaraz - b
Djokovic - a, b, c, d
Ruud - b, d
Draper - a
Tsitsipas - b, d, a (?)
Rublev - b, c, d
De Minaur - a (?)
Medvedev
Rune - b, d
Shelton
Fils - b
Musetti - a, b
Tiafoe (never played?)
Dimitrov - a, b
Auger-Aliassime - a, b, c

Djokovic definitely has the edge

its Stepanoe's tournament to win or lose. he's just too good here

What do you consider to be fast clay?
Madrid, Houston, some high altitude clay tornament in South American like in Chile, and sunny RG. Monte Carlos is the slowest clay on the tour. Basically if you see players like John Isner doing well on clay, that clay is fast.

Carlbiggest has already found form, his match against Draper at Indian Wells was excellent, plus he won Rotterdam.
Carlbiggest is 15-4, exactly the same record as 2024.

Maybe you are on to something. Isner pushed Rafa after RG (once), as did FAA (once). Is Roland Garros fast or do certain weather/watering conditions change the play enough to help their games? Obviously, at the fall Roland Garros matches played differently. And we know Rafa liked sunny conditions.

IMO, FAA has become too conservative and lost a step or two. He is happy just to bash the ball from the baseline à la Zverev or Sinner. Feel like this is a result of Toni's influence. In his younger days, there more dropshots, more volleys, more risk-taking like Shapo.

The baseline will be his bread and butter. But he's got to mix it up a bit more. Especially on serve. He's done very well this year. I even saw a dropper when he was feeling particularly confident.

Alcaraz often needs to play his way into form, taking a match or two to really calibrate to a new surface. Can’t say I have a whole lot of confidence he’ll come out in the form he needs to be in to beat a consistent dirt-baller like Cerundolo. That’s a rough opener, provided Fognini doesn’t spoil the party.

Defending champ Tsitsipas got a rough one. By seed, he’d have to go through Rune, Zverev, Djokovic, and Alcaraz to retain his crown. We’ll see if that holds up. Nevertheless, I think the winner of the Tsits-Zed quarter probably takes this title.

Voted someone else. I’ll go with Rune, Carlos, or Fils for the win. Zverev Rune winner has big shot at final to face Carlos/Fils/Ruud survivor. Wawrinka will lose an epic to Djoko if Stan gets past A. Tabilo, but Machac or Demean will finish off the best stats guy.

No, carlos alcaraz is not as good as you think at all.

Seeing Petros Tsitsipas is a real trip since he usually doesn't make it into televised matches. Here's a guy with Stef's mannerisms, gait, strokes, facial features ... but it's not Stef!

Is Tiafoe really planning to play MC on Tuesday? Might have early notice for the WATLYNM lounge to get ready ...
