This is probably the most lopsided 3-1 in the world most likely...

Yeah, but Musetti has had a lot more on court time, so it would be ideal for him to start off strong.

The way I see it is that tough matches are actually good for a player. Yes fatigue is a thing for sure. But long tough matches tend to build your resilience. Musetti now knows he can stare down defeat and hang in there even when down a set. That's a kind of toughness you can't achieve with a bunch of easy wins.

This place is full of fuken idiots, two players playing an amazing level and fighting till the end in a tight high level match and people talking about choke jobs and low level, omg what a joke of a tennis fanbase

100% agreed

@TheGoldenEra1990’s just wants 30-shot rallies with a clean winner at the end, I guess. Doesn't understand that drawing errors is basically what tennis is. Especially on a slow court like this.

We should want competitive finals with top tier talent on both sides . So far this year they have all been complete duds filled with second tier players or just gassed players and we don’t even get a real match. MC will be no different. Carlos will dispatch of gassed Musetti quicker than a hiccup

I would rather have sinner return quick so we will have some competitive matches again. IW, Miami and MC are turning into abominations. We need the top two players in the world going at it. all these guys are second tier players who shouldn’t be finals participants

@ojo rojo I know my words were strong and maybe a little speculative but this is what I mean. Just keep watching. Dude only likes a certain kind of player and goes out of his way to dump on everyone else

I'm physically relieved because De Minaur would have made Alcaraz run a lot more probably or play longer points  and it would hurt Alcaraz's chances at Barcelona next week... so very happy with Musetti :giggle:

Alcaraz-Fils. Now that would have been a proper final as far talent and level go. Instead our finish line is Carlos vs gassed second tier player That’s what we don’t want as fans. We want a spectacle of shot making and talent. These finals have been extremely poor all year

Lorenzo the magnificent brings Italian tennis back to the final in Monte Carlo 6 years after Fognini 2019.
I repeat, his passive style, in Italian called "pallettaro", doesn't appeal to me at all, but in the end the result counts, and in his own way on natural surfaces he is acquiring great solidity.
He manages to wrap up his opponents.
De Minaur doesn't have the power to break through that wall.

With Alcaraz it will be a whole different story, if you play so passive and so far from the baseline he disintegrates you, Alcaraz disintegrates you.
I would say that tomorrow we need a feat that goes even beyond that of Fognini himself in the 2019 semifinal with Nadal, we need something more, a miracle.
But that's already good enough, new best ranking at number 11 and now the top 10 is only a question of when rather than how.

It's also Bo3. Tough matches on Bo3 matter proportionally much less unless the schedule is absolutely horrifying (like Rune at Monte Carlo itself last year)

Would be another thing if it was a Slam where you can easily completely gas out

What is Musetti's live ranking after reaching the final in Monte Carlo?

Carlitos kinda needs the victory in order to build confidence ahead what is coming over the next months. This could increase Lorenzos chances. Lets see how Carlos manages anxiety tomorrow.

Sorry got that completely wrong- thought you were referring to me! Lol. I’m absolutely exhausted, need to step away from the internet

Thank you, what a pain in this thread to read about mugging, choking, how horrible both guys are etc.
Sometimes there are chokes and poor play which deserves to be called out but it's like every match around here and gets a little grating to read after a while for somebody like me who watches this sport to be entertained and in general is an optimist in life.

Yeah, I'm losing my patience with the "everyone is mugs" crowd.

In terms of the final, Carlos should be the heavy favorite for many reasons but you just never know what you're gonna get from him nowadays and this is Musetti's strong surface so I expect it to be competitive.

There have been 54 main draw matches in MC

Total aces scored by all 353 and total Double faults 294 (Hand calculated)

So on average in a match, you see 3.27 ace per player per match to 2.7 DF

GOD I HATE CLAY

I think Fed and Nole fans have given up hating on clay JUST BECAUSE Nadal is gone today but don't forget what type of matches you see on this surface.

Yeah, clay is grueling to play on, even more grueling to watch. I really don't like the MC on TV, the courts are dark and the ball is hard to see.

I definitely prefer watching/playing fast court tennis.

I used to dread this time of the year when tour moved to red clay even without Nadal. Still do.

Boring servebotting is disgusting

Same. I have learned to respect it, though.

I grew up playing on red clay every summer, and har-tru year round, so as I've grown older I've reluctantly embraced that it's part of my identity/heritage as a player.

Just realized Alcaraz moved up to number one in the race with the win today. Finally lol. By 60 points. Hopefully he can build a decent lead before Sinner’s back and then out-do him at the channel slam. Would leave us a reasonably interesting race for the year-end number one.

I don't hate his fh, he can do serious damage with it.
I hit that he doesn't understand that always injecting pace is better way than counterpunching .

Dude, this makes little sense, your favorite player did a lot of counterpunching. Musetti's FH is nowhere near Djoko's

You ever played with the Ezone 98?

Random question for a thread like this but I'm in the market for a "one hander friendly racket" (if that is a thing) and this one keeps popping up.

He just has a good forehand. Don't understand the hate.

I must've switched on the match at a low point because it seemed a bit shaky but then again he was going for winners down the line, low percentage shots, etc.

His level towards the end, sans the game he was serving for the match, seemed very very good.

I'm a bit peeved that Greg couldn't salvage at least a few games yesterday to avoid becoming part of the wrong side of tennis history. Oh well.
