Felix will be $1.25 million richer. That's something to be happy and proud about. :)

I read a while back that a lot of the tennis prize money gets hella taxed, It was something ridiculous like 40% in certain places so it's sadly probably no way near that figure.

There it is, GSM Sinner! Better match than I expected but the right result. Neither Sinner or Alcaraz looked massively convicing today so it'll be interesting to see who wins in the final!

Nice performance from FAA, all things considered. Match was a little closer than scoreline reflects. Sinner could have served better and he had some error-strewn stretches of play but he adjusted well to FAA’s gameplan.

Kudos Sinner - on to the Grand Finale.

And honestly, fantastic by FAA. Showed me something. Love that he had his big stretch in the second set and part of the third, and even the beginning of the fourth. Appreciate he dug deep to win his next service game after being broken in the fourth and manged to hold the rest of the set. Very nice.

We have the final we wanted. The final will decide who the better player was in 2025 between Sincaraz. It could also decide year end number one, as Raz is already quite ahead in points after Sinner's suspension.

It was obvious Djokovic was doing nothing to Carlos today and equally obvious that Felix has enough firepower that if he gets hot he can do more damage for however long he can manage.

Djokovic has a pretty good floor still but he doesn't have the game to deal with this pace and weight of shot and Felix has a puncher's chance. You need serious firepower to make an impression.

Neither guy were realistically beating healthy, on-song versions of either but we're still just talking about two sets here, their respective second sets, with Djokovic being a bit better than Alcaraz before the tiebreak and FAA capitalizing on a lull. Sinner served at 46% for the first 3.5 sets. Hard to disentangle that from FAA's "ceiling." Especially since the serve is the one stroke not directly affected by your opponent.

That was the point and it was proven true

Not really, unless you think single matches have 100% explanatory power for stuff like this. Tennis is a dynamic game, things change fast. Djokovic looked every bit as helpless after the first set of the AO match (more so, it was a worse set than any he played today); if for whatever reason he came down with a bad enough injury to retire I probably would've beat my chest that sets 2 and 3 would've played out in the same way (Raz-Djoko is one of the few big matches I've truly whiffed on in the last 5 years, I thought he had it). Of course, they didn't.

And that's without even weighing that in theory Felix has the bigger task on hard court today.

If you do that, it'd probably be fair to weigh that Sinner played a worse match than Alcaraz did (and/or possibly being injured). Has Raz ever given us a more composed showing on HC in a big match? Can't think of any (though the pickins' are slender).

In the end, FAA lost 6-1 3-6 6-3 6-4 to a guy clearly below his own ceiling. Meh. Doesn't seem that vindicating but if it's a win for you, fair enough. I shan't argue any longer. (y)

Glad Sinner got it together

We'll see if FAA can maintain this level into next year or if this is like a WTA player being invisible for 2 years and managing to get hot for 2 weeks

Well contested match. 1st set may look like a beat down but it too went well over 40 mins I think? Jannik definitely needs some work on his serve but that was strong showing, saving all those BPs with some clutch plays. Felix too redeemed that disaster at Cincy and proved that he'd earned his spot here. Looking forward to Sunday!!

I don't think i'd even consider the 1st semifinal a composed showing.

Shaky af for the first 2 sets until Djokovic's serve disappeared and the serb completely gave up in the 3rd.

48% in Spain. That is what Carlitos is giving to the spanish government.
Italy is similar. But Jannik has residence in Monte Carlo which has 0% income tax.

HOW SAD FAA DHBH! Sinner constantly going to it was so obvious.
Major FAA weakness after years playing pro tennis with 2 FT coaches

RAFA Academy did not fix that wristy, chin to the sky, straight legged
and unbalancing form that Nadal not Uncle Toni could have corrected
in about the same amount of time it takes him to scratch his crabs.

I know its a tactic for coaches never correct every problem with players
that need to be kept in the loop to keep the income stream going BUT
this is an otherwise top of the line PRO once Prodigy still struggling
with the same horrible DHBH errors for over a decade.

Can this Nice Noble but Naive player just get Nalbandian, Hewitt, Diego,
Simon, Murray, Davydenko or other legendary killer DHBHander to help?
Even ask Amanda Anisimova or her coach to help him.
He is limiting his chances of greatness as his time is running out.

That’s how low the bar has been for Raz in important HC tournaments tho. Straight sets on 84/57 serve splits with only one break allowed against a Djokovic that has been passably good going into the match (relative to age and what-not) is as good as it’s been for him (up there with the Zed demolition in ‘23 I guess?)

He pays tax to NYC, NYS and the US Govt just like everyone else with earnings in NYC. Default withholding for the feds is 30%, which the USTA will withhold from his check. I do not believe the US has a "standard" tax treaty with Monaco (like it does with Italy) that could reduce the tax due to avoid double taxation but double taxation is not an issue with Monaco because it doesn't have an income tax.

His residency in Monaco doesn't really help with tax on his prize money. It helps with tax on his endorsement income.

Also Spain dont do double taxation, its the sponsor money that are being taxed by spain and zero by Montecarlo

Well yeah. The worst part is that that's what you need to get into slam finals now lol

I"ll check that. I am sure that Alcaraz payed 48% of price money to Spain when he won RG. Maybe because it's EU?
Its impossibile, RG prize money is payed after french tax and thats already around 44% going away. its the sponsor money that are being taxed by spain and that its big bcz Carlos generate a lot

You must have got in real early with your reply. :)
If you go back to my post you'll see I modified it to "before taxes".
And you'll see there is no modification time/date.
That means I did it within 3-5 minutes I think.
