2025 US Open Womens Final - [1] Aryna Sabalenka vs [8] Amanda Anisimova

Aryna Sabalenka played an intelligent match, trying not to overpower Anisimova and to make Amanda cough errors, which happened very often. And while Anisimova didn't play as abysmal as at Wimbledon, she still let the occasion get the better of her.
One could argue that Amanda Anisimova got the worst cards in both Grand Slam finals she played, having to play Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka, those same players had to beat Grand Slam champions (Sofia Kenin and Elena Rybakina, respectively) to win their first majors. Others believed that playing a worse player in the final can give you the easy major win, but Ons Jabeur and Dinara Safina can argue the opposite, however, Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki are proof of the opposite, having to beat elite players to win their majors.
As an Iga fan, the most important is that the distance between Swiatek and Sabalenka was kept as 2 titles of difference.

some stats on Anisimova I came across -

youngest player since Halep to reach major semis on 3 surfaces at age 24(Halep was 23 when she did it in '15)

first American to beat a top 2 player in back to back majors since Serena in '12

only active American player to have made major semis on 3 surfaces(not counting Venus).

not bad since she took 7 months off in '23 to paint and take college classes.

Wow talk about milking that into a life long career, she has made more in her so call broadcasting career than her actual playing.

Indeed. If not for McEnroe, no one would know her today. Her relevance comes from him, not anything about her tennis knowledge--at least not the degree she was treated in the early years of her broadcasting career.

The rightful winner and did it in style. crazy to think she should be holding 3 slams now if she didn’t choke the AO and RG finals. The deserved #1.

Most consistent player on tour. Iga second up there and then a million miles to Gauff with her 9 double faults average per match and 20+ unforced errors.

Still waiting for that Sabalenka v Swiatek final but.
