Andreeva's slice forehand doesn't look desperate or nervy as Siegemund's did yesterday at the end of the match. To be fair, the slice forehands were working for Siegemund for a good portion of the match.
Yep. Bencic is rattled now after getting broken by a bunch of slice forehands that she could do nothing with.

Looks like lobs are really not in Bencic's repertoire. I initially thought on earlier points she didn't live because the balls were too low and hard to lob. She didn't even lob on a much higher bouncing ball with Mirra so close to the net, instead she hit it back right to her trying to pass or hit through Mirra.
So many obvious chances to use the lob but instead she hits the standard passing attempt.

There's the aggression MA needs, but still 40-30....maybe waited too long.

Edit - or....maybe not 40-40.

two misses on the FH - tiebreak time.....coin flip right now to me.

Not looking good for Mirra Andreeva - she's had her chances to level this match.

bencic doing a good job not going for a winner on first passing shot and setting it up for the second shot to pass
mental game showing up in both tiebreakers

Well done. Belinda Bencic into the Wimbledon Ladies' SF to take on Iga Swiatek. Tough battle today but takes out #7 seed Mirra Andreeva 7-6(3); 7-6(2). Didn't see enough from Bencic to think she'll advance further, but you never know. A lot of experience to rely upon.

Disgusting choke by Andreeva. She won't live up to expectations by continuing choke to lesser players at the back end of slams
Bencic isn't that exciting but at this point in their careers Bencic really isn't "lesser." Obviously she's ranked lower, but in terms of accomplishment. Plus there's the whole pregnancy pause.

Nice interview from Bencic, she comes across as relaxed and genuine. Seems like the break and changes to family life coming into the second stage of her career has made her more relaxed and grounded. Great to see players being able to come back to the highest level like this.

I thought she was a little older, like 31. But she's only 28. Could have years more of doing well if she wants to stick with it.

it's easy for her to seem nice in an interview when she is the winner but she is far from that when things aren't going well during a match

Iga is winning Wimbledon. These conditions are effectively her ideal state of play. I don’t think she’ll have any issues if it’s hot this weekend.
She still has to prove she can win anything, let alone her first Wimbledon title.
It's a lot to ask of her at this point imo.

Andreeva is way too passive which I don't understand considering the weapons at her disposal. A 115+ mph serve yet she plays defensive tennis in rallies.

It was a primary factor in costing her the match, IMO....but hey, credit to Bencic for capitalizing and taking the two tie-breaks.

The 5-6 return game for Andreeva was an opening.....misses a 2nd serve return......never really gave herself another chance after that. However, she's just 18.....these are the things you can learn from and grow into an even better player......will she? Remains to be seen. I would have loved to see her play Iga Swiatek and see what happens, but.....thems the breaks.

Did you watch the R4 and this match? She was horrible in the match.

It's inevitable. I don't know why others can't see it. Bencic is basically a walkover in the semis, and there's no way Saba would get it done playing as she did yesterday. Plus Saba has a weak record in finals lately. Perhaps Anisimova would have an outside chance but that doesn't seem likely.

I agree Iga has a great chance, but I don't agree that Saba's performance yesterday really matters that much. I'd assume she picks it up for the final. TTers make that mistake with Alacaraz as well. "He played meh in this match, so he won't win the tournament."

Alcaraz is not Sabalenka. She's someone who is likely to play worse in a final than in a quarter-final, not better. The issue yesterday is that it shows how volatile her nerves/emotions still are, not how she was hitting the ball.

Didn't see the whole Mirra/Bencic match, but the parts that I saw, I didn't recall seeing a single dropshot attempt by Mirra. I suppose Bencic's shots are a lot harder to dropshot than Navarro's.
