Honestly does good grass court season ever translate at Wimbledon? I'm trying to think the last time a player won a lead in tournament and won Wimbledon? Did Serena or Kvitova do it cause I can't think of any:
Let's look:
2024: Krejcikova wins Wimbledon.
She'd lost 1st match in Eastbourne to Fernandez and QF in Birmingham to Potapova. The grass title winners last year were: Kasatkina, Shnaider, Putintseva, Pegula, Boulter, Samsonova. Not one of them made the QF
2023: Vondrousova wins Wimbledon.
She'd lost QF in Berlin to Sakkari. Grass winners that year were: Siniakova. Keys, Ostapenko, Kvitova, Boulter, Alexandrova. Keys was the only one to make the QF.
2022: Rybakina wins Wimbledon.
She'd lost in her first match in Eastbourne to Tsurenko and 2nd match to Rogers in Rosmalen. Grass winners that year were: Garcia, Kvitova, Haddad Maia x2, Jabeur, Alexandrova. Ons Jabeur was the only one who did well at Wimbledon making the final and losing to Rybakina.
2021: Barty wins Wimbledon.
Didn't play a lead in tournament. Grass winners that year: Kerber, Ostapenko, Jabeur, Samsonova, Konta. Both Angie and Jabeur had some success. Kerber with a SF showing and Jabeur with the QF.
2019: Halep wins Wimbledon.
Lost in the QF of Eastbourne to Kerber. Grass winners that year: Pliskova, Kenin, Barty, Riske, Garcia. None of them made the QF's.
2018: Kerber wins Wimbledon.
Lost in the SF of Eastbourne to Wozniacki, lost in her first match in Mallorca to Riske. Grass winners that year: Wozniacki, Tatjana Maria, Kvitova, Krunic, Barty. None of them made the QF's.
2017: Muguruza wins Wimbledon.
Got destroyed by Strycova 6-1 6-0 in her first match in Eastbourne and also lost in the SF of Birmingham to Barty. Grass winners that year: Pliskova, Sevastova, Kvitova, Kontaveit, Vekic. None of them made the QF
Ok i've gone back far enough. Clearly grass form really doesn't translate to Wimbledon. No wonder why this tournament is always a mess to predict.
