This is true, but funnily some of the finals I watched, the partner carry her especially on the emotional side.
She does seem a bit volatile mentally sometimes (like half of the WTA and ATP), and that might be why she hasn't done more as a singles player.

But there is no denying her resume. She has won with so many different partners recently that the key must be her!

OK I see what you mean. I've seen a few games now. She started to shriek when she hit a few balls ultra-hard.
Never heard that before. Is that perhaps desperation/frustration?
Yes she does seem to be overwhelmed.
Let's not forget that Swiatek is relentless.

Yeah totally overwhelmed from the start Swedish commentators said she looked nervous from the first game.

I notice Iga uses a covered up bottle of Prince grip plus grip enhancer anyone know what overgrip she uses I want to try that combination.

This is what Wiki says about it:
  • Steffi Graf won 6–0, 6–0, against Natasha Zvereva in the 1988 French Open final. The official time of the match given on the scoresheet was 34 minute, but the match consumed just 32 minutes of playing time, split into two periods of nine and 23 minutes because of a rain break. It is the only "double bagel" Grand Slam singles final of the Open Era, and only the second time in the history of tennis (the other being at 1911 Wimbledon).

So this sets a record. First Wimbie double bagel of the Open Era. I saw that Graf Zvereva final live and was just as disappointed as I was
    with this match.

Congrats to 3 of us, who predicted the winner correctly. I don't think Iga should be allowed to play actually, because most of players (Errani, Halep) who were busted for accidentally using contaminated supplements/food were suspended for much longer. Couple of weeks during he off-season is ridiculous. And Amanda helped Iga a lot, Iga just needed to keep the ball in play, everything else Amanda did for her with all those hair-raising unforced errors. But it is what it is...

When was the last double-bagel Wimbie final?
1911.

Jelena Ostapenko will become the world #1 in doubles if her and Hsieh win the title over Kudermetova/Mertens!

Was quite surprised by that.
It's ironic because Hsieh is largely carrying Ostapenko in the title match. In the second set on Hsieh's serve, they were up 40-0, but then Ostapenko lost 5 points on her racquet at net and they were broken and lost the set. Hsieh has most of the spectacular winners on their side.

But Penko's ground strokes set up Hsieh for success.

Tatjana Maria playing Caty McNally in the finals on grass in Newport right now.

Maria beat Anisimova at Queens club a few weeks ago.

McNally took a set off Swiatek at Wimbledon.

That was a heck of a volley to win the match point.
I prefer to look at it a completely different way.

Too bad 'Penko blew it on the second to last point. U.E. :(
Then gave the ball to a poaching Kuder at net who finished the match rather easily. :(

Yeah, I was never enamoured to 'Penko.
Yes she has game, but when push comes to shove, she can't be counted upon.
I'd like to see Hsieh change partners.

Actually Hsieh didn't have her A game today, lots of errors. Kudermetova play A+.

I was actually going to say before the match that, win or lose, this could be the last time we ever see Anisimova at this level.

If she had won, I would have said that the Wimbledon trophy would have sapped her motivation for the rest of her career. She would have just chilled, earned some more money, and retired early.

With a regular loss, she would probably have created some mental demons that she could never get past again.

But a double bagel? I'm not even sure what this means. But it just might ruin her.

I don't think it's going to work out quite this way.
Could this be her first and last time in a slam final?
Quite possibly.

But at this point in time, only she knows the reason(s) she couldn't perform
against Iga as she did against Sab.

I mentioned a few times that the biggest improvement I saw to her game in the past few
years has been her movement and anticipation.
To my eyes it has been quite dramatic. She has also trimmed down her weight nicely.

But Iga takes away your time much more so than anyone on the tour.
Those split seconds on each of her shots might have been the main reason
for her dramatic loss.

Whatever the reason(s) are, I think she'll figure them out and
become determined to perform better the next time.

I don't think Anisimova will ever be a great mover, although she can still improve somewhat.

That said, it isn't crucial to her game when she is hitting well. Players like Davenport (and peak Ostapenko) could find success without great movement.

Anisimova's biggest issue is mental. And while quite a few of the current players are fragile in that department (Sabalenka, Iga, Rybakina (if she is even a top player anymore)), Anisimova seems particularly vulnerable.

I think with how wide open the womens game is there is a good chance she makes atleast 1 more slam final. I don't think she is going to just go away, or that this defeat will ruin her, but I don't think she is quite good enough to be a regular top contender either, even in the wide open womens game.

As for Iga, I've always liked her game, but why is she so obsessive with the cap thing - not only does she keep it on at all times, including when receiving the trophy and parading it around the grounds, she also has her whole team wearing the same cap and never removing it. It's very bizarre, they almost look like a cult.
