2025 WTA Doha 1000

Helena Sukova is in HOF, but Muster is not. There are no real minimum standards to get in, its sort of a popularity contest.
because of doubles superiority mainly...Ostapenko is good at doubles but doesn't have that kind of resume...Muster should be in according to recent standards

Ostapenko in the Hall of Fame based on her current record though?...hard to believe anyone would truly believe that...far too inconsistent and not nearly enough titles, much less the bigger and biggest ones...she can add one tomorrow....if she has any hope of one day being in Newport she needs to win it

Gosh Errani is screaming like she‘s giving birth, it‘s even more annoying than Sabalenka‘s. The umpire should consider it as hindrance.

One being all in black and one being all in white in this match is so cool. Shame it is so sort of muted and undramatic for two absolute hammerers of the ball.

Anisimova gets her season going with a nice paycheck and bump up the rankings as well.

She's possibly top 10 on natural talent though. It's like she's trolling the tour hanging around outside the top 32. That said, she's very unstable. The slightest 2mph breeze or maybe a runny nose, her game will stay in the locker room.
LOL it definitely was the wind today. Sometimes it was quite crazy because the ball flew really unpredictable.

the name of the game isn't beating Iga Swiatek, it's winning titles...and preferably big ones, like this

being consistently inconsistent isn't a trait Hall of Famers share
There have always been these giant killer ladies and men around. Like you said in the end its the big titles that count.

Ostapenko had the opportunity to go up 2-0 in the second but failed to convert break points. As Ostapenko took out her frustrations at her team, Anisimova broke early to take a 2-1 lead and leave her opponent fuming during the changeover.

Ostapenko asked a member of her team to leave her box and won the next seven points, but she lost her momentum after another 25-minute rain delay.
Ha, who did she kick out?

Full credit to Anisimova but damn that’s some dream easy run for a 1000.

Azarenka
#9 Badosa
Fernandez
Kostyuk
Alexandrova
Ostapenko

One seeded faced and it was in R2. Nothing from then on.

Compare it to Penko who beat:
Ito
#16 Samsonova
#4 Paolini
Jabeur
#2 Swiatek
But loses to Anisimova.

2 of the top 4 players in the world plus another seed and the Ons Jabeur.

Or even Alexandrova who beat:
Raducanu
#1 Sabalenka
Mertens
#6 Pegula

2 top 10 players.

Of course you can only play who you’re drawn against but that’s a dream draw for Amanda.

How was that "easy" for her? She was 0-2 against both Fernandez and Kostyuk before they met here, so they weren't easy match ups for her. None of the players in her draw can be considered slacks - all in the Top 30. She wouldn't have minded facing Sabalenka instead of Alexandrova either with their 5-2 H2H.

Sakkari's Guadalajara 1000 run in 2023 would be what you call the ultimate dream. Hunter > Giorgi > Arango > Garcia > Dolehide?

Bit harsh. There's no muppets in there who came through the qualies who nobody's ever heard of. All well known respectable dangerous opponents.
As I said, full credit but again, take a look at the draw Ostapenko had for this tournament and even Alexandrova and then perhaps you'll understand my comparison :) Obviously not Amanda's fault but surely you can see the difference in the two draws?

And yes Placebo, Sakkari's run would be the ultimate dream one. That was woeful.

But again, Anisimova was unseeded yet faced one seed.

Look at something like #1 Swiatek in Rome last year. Kerber, #18 Keys, #3 Gauff and #2 Sabalenka for the title.
Or #3 Sabalenka in Cincinnati last year. Svitolina, #10 Samsonova, #1 Swiatek and #6 Pegula for the title.

Then look at Anisimova - Vika, #9 Badosa, Fernandez, Kostyuk, Alexandrova and Ostapenko for the title.

I'm obviously going to be more impressed by those runs than this one. If you can't see the difference then I can't lay it out any more for you.

And again, this isn't to disrespect Amanda, she had a dream run and took it, Ostapenko fell at the end. It's like Fernandez at the US Open with the hard yards vs Raducanu with the easy run.

Um, no draw against Giorgi is easy... (unless it seems like one of those events where her game is completely off and she can't play anywhere near her best level)
