glad to see kenin doing well and moving back up the rankings. now she doesn't have to go through qualifying. My feisty fighter had her little strut going today and had some flashes but in the end Elena was too much for her.
Stilltho
if tauson lost that double/triple chin she would probably be better. yikesTauson has much more to her game than Ostapenko, who mostly hit flat and topspin and is really good at that. Tauson does not rush to the net, but is comfortable with her volleys. Generally I think she has very good hands and feeling and touch with the ball.
1 to go.Think I'd prefer Elena v. Karolina, which probably means it will be Mirra v. Clara.
She's quite solid all around. That's not a Gauff quality. I'm not sure it means she'll be an ATG, but she certainly never beats herself out there.Taking out Swiatek and Rybakina, Andreeva sure is cementing her rep as a future star. I expect her to have a better career than Gauff.
Gauff still has a long way ahead as well, they are only 3 years apart! But I feel like Mirra can still evolve 1 step further and might dominate the tour since she is a very well rounded player compared to Gauff who rose to prominent early on her athletic ability.Taking out Swiatek and Rybakina, Andreeva sure is cementing her rep as a future star. I expect her to have a better career than Gauff.
Mirra did win her first WTA title last summer in Iasi, Romania, on clay, a WTA 250 tournament.First title Gauff 15, Mirra ? (17.8 if she wins Dubai)
Gauff is a slam winner after all, so it’s not a low bar. Overall though I see more potential in Mirra. Coco has an interesting ceiling with athletic dominance, big serve, super defensive type… almost like an actualized version of the ATP playstyle of Zverev/Medvedev… but her FH is just so choppy that it’s hard to trust her.Taking out Swiatek and Rybakina, Andreeva sure is cementing her rep as a future star. I expect her to have a better career than Gauff.
Im eagerly awaiting the next Andreeva Gauff match.Gauff is a slam winner after all.
You jinxed itThink I'd prefer Elena v. Karolina, which probably means it will be Mirra v. Clara.
Oh well, let the kids play! You jinxed it
She does look out of gas. Still got Mirra to break point though.Ouch, Clara Tauson totally deflated. Still, she can be proud of her efforts this week.
Mirra would beat Fonseca in straightsgood crunch on Mirra's forehand down the line
They restructured the 1000s in 2009, before that they were I think 900 points. Hingis was younger when she won 1000 equivalents(like Miami) in '97 and Serena when she won '99 IW. And Venus when she won '98 Miami.Very cool, congrats Mirra! The youngest WTA 1000 level tournament level winner apparently.
And it appears the very next youngest player in the top 100 in terms of age is a player by the name of…. Andreeva. But elder sister Erika who is 20.Congrats to Mirra and welcome in the top 10!
Fun facts (if this list is correct - tennisabstract.com/reports/rankingsByAgeWta.html):
Mirra is the only player in the top 100 who is not yet 18 years old
Mirra is the only player in the top 100 who is not yet 19 years old
Mirra is the only player in the top 100 who is not yet 20 years old
