I still think double digit Slams are very much achievable for either player, especially Iga. Frankly I’d be shocked if Iga doesn’t get to double digits. This is why I always hate people who get ahead of themselves predicting Iga or Sabalenka dominating and getting double digit slams. There is always someone coming up, and coming up fast.
Eh man. You're probably right but remember Henin, Sharapova winning Wimbledon at 17. Clijsters, heck even Venus. I mean tons you would think early on oh they are gonna win 10 but alas real life happens.I still think double digit Slams are very much achievable for either player, especially Iga. Frankly I’d be shocked if Iga doesn’t get to double digits.
Hingis won 5 majors by age 18 and never won another again. Couldn't handle Davenport and the sisters after that(but at least she was always able to advance far enough to play them in semis, finals etc.). While Swiatek gets overpowered at Wimbledon in early rounds by players like Cornet and Putinsva. And the list of players who overpower her on hard is longer that the list that overpowered Hingis, so nothing is guaranteed(losing to Ostapenko and Pegula at USO??) It would be weird to have a 10 slam winner who loses early so often at majors(in the women's game - in men's game it was understandable - Sampras in 90s with clay etc, dangerous floaters with only 16 seeds, etc )I still think double digit Slams are very much achievable for either player, especially Iga. Frankly I’d be shocked if Iga doesn’t get to double digits.
Yup Hingis is another one. For like 2 years she was unstoppable. And then she couldnt win anything.Hingis won 5 majors by age 18 and never won another again. Couldn't handle Davenport and the sisters after that(but at least she was always able to advance far enough to play them in semis, finals etc.). While Swiatek gets overpowered on grass in early rounds by players like Cornet and Putinsva. And the list of players who overpower her on hard is longer that the list that overpowered Hingis, so nothing is guaranteed.
As others and myself have spoken earlier here, Doha and Dubai are often outliers for the tennis calendar. That’s not me saying Andreeva isn’t going on to big things, I’ve tipped it along with others for a long time now. But I wouldn’t use this one week as a reason to write off Sabalenka or Iga. We can’t forget that Sabalenka was like a game or two away from winning 3 straight Aus Opens, something that Serena never did. Or that Iga is looking at winning 4 straight French Opens this year. Another feat that hasn’t been emulated since Henin who didn’t even do it in consecutive years unlike Iga.This is why I always hate people who get ahead of themselves predicting Iga or Sabalenka dominating and getting double digit slams. There is always someone coming up, and coming up fast.
Not to compare Iga to Nadal but of his 22 slams which obviously is incredible, 14 were at RG. Of Iga’s 5 slams, 4 are at RG and she’s “just” 23. Now as others have suggested, she could fall off a cliff but I don’t see it. Double digits may be a stretch but I still don’t see who is stopping her on clay and she came close at the AO making the SF. Former champ at the USO, can’t write her off there.Hingis won 5 majors by age 18 and never won another again. Couldn't handle Davenport and the sisters after that(but at least she was always able to advance far enough to play them in semis, finals etc.). While Swiatek gets overpowered at Wimbledon in early rounds by players like Cornet and Putinsva. People like to forget the RG 1999 final in singles that Hingis made which (no offence to Martina) ruined her on a world stage, she was a biatch to Graf in the lead up with her comments and essentially she collapsed in that 1999 French Open final. She was 3 points from the win and lost. She wept and had to be brought back on court after choking. She had said going into the match Graf was of the past but yet Hingis lost and and she never truly recovered. Made more slam finals but damage was done. No more slams won.Yup Hingis is another one. For like 2 years she was unstoppable. And then she couldnt win anything.
Damn, I like her even more now.
Woah, that's insane. As one teen hits new heights, another continues down the slippery slope to oblivion. Linda Fruhvirtova, now 195 in the rankings, loses in the Merida qualifiers after being up 6-2 5-2 and having SIX match points.
The fact that he calls Mirra a him? Could be just a typo or maybe English is not his native language. That’s a pretty embarrassing post by ’tennislegend‘.
You'd hope, but he posted a cute picture of the two winners for the likes, I think it's an honest mistake. If you can write a caption in English, you can get ‘her’ right.
Possibly. I have always felt so many TTW posters take for granted when players and especially female players but some men to who peak and predictions are made about their future totals of slams. Because they all think the next Graf or Serena is coming. Because it's hard for many to grasp that they in general aint. Which tells you how special these players and a few others were.iga is still playing the same game she was 2 years ago. The game evolves and if she doesn't improve with it she will get passed by. Players have started to figure her out. iga is nowhere near nadal status. Nadal improved and his game got better over the years to stay at the top. lets see if iga can do the same.
Well, I watched a good portion of the final and didn't see any of that. Sure, it wasn't her best match, but she showed exactly zero interest in coming to the net, or trying some variety.Tauson has much more to her game than Ostapenko, who mostly hit flat and topspin and is really good at that. Tauson does not rush to the net, but is comfortable with her volleys. Generally I think she has very good hands and feeling and touch with the ball.
Her slice is good, not just by WTA standards. Watch highlights of her match against Noskova and compare her slice to Noskova's![]()
Well, Andreeva was definitely all over the place mentally in previous years. Her meltdowns were real. She's quite solid all around. That's not a Gauff quality. I'm not sure it means she'll be an ATG, but she certainly never beats herself out there.
Is it weird that I got turned on by that replay? Muchova is fire!!!
Well, she seemed to make a mess of things off the court, with her private life, and that didn't seem to help things at all. She seems miles away from some of these current players that eat, sleep, and breathe tennis 24/7.Yup Hingis is another one. For like 2 years she was unstoppable. And then she couldnt win anything.
