2025 WTA Madrid 1000

I like that she's stepped down to the lowest tier on the WTA to get match play on clay even if she's only playing the types of players you would face in R1 or R2 of RG.
And still ending up playing three setters. 2-1 over Jeanjean. Definitely a good move by Naomi.

Didn't expect Coco has a 5-4 H2H lead against Sabalenka until I checked yesterday. Just hoping this is not an under 60min match type.

Early break from Sabalenka, followed by another. Everything is working for her now. Coco getting rushed on almost every point. Might end up with a breadstick on set 1.

I watched some highlights and Cocos' forehand does look less hitchy - like the take back is more abbreviated. She still looks like she's sort of thinking about it, but it seems a bit improved - though my data set for that conclusion is incredibly small. Maybe it can still go break down, but if she's reduced the amount of times and the degree to which it breaks down, then that would be a great improvement.
I think you're right on this ... I do notice it too.

I do think Coco tries to dance around the ball to get it to the forehand a little too much, a lot of times it's a not a feasible tactic and she then mistimes the hit.

Not the best match but that result could be a huge confidence boost for Aryna, as Coco is usually one of the players giving her the most trouble. Four finals in a row now...Can Saba keep it up in Rome and Roland Garros ? Honestly why not, she's really ahead of everyone right now.

I thought it would be close but Sabalenka played very consistently. All the worst traits of Gauff came out to play. She played nowhere near as well as the semi.
