This was pretty embarrassing by Shelton. I don’t know how he’s top 10. Looking at the amount of top 10 wins he has, it’s not many.

He had two last year and it was De Minaur and Fritz lol. In 2024 he had 2 which were Rublev and then Medvedev at Laver Cup lol.

He’s really not gotten great wins. Just lucky with his deep runs at big tournaments.

I wanted to compare him to Ferrer, but it would so unfair to Ferrer who did have some great wins (beat Nadal twice in the Slams, beat Murray, beat Del Po). Ferrer in 2012 alone had more top 10 wins than Shelton in his career combined.

Shelton is basically the current ATP tour in a nutshell.

There is nothing Shelton can do to improve to get on Sinner/Alcaraz's level. It's the same for basically all of the top 10 other than Zverev/Djokovic in my view, they just don't have the all-round tennis ability needed. Maybe a few of them excel in one paticular area but they don't have the whole package and won't touch the top 2.

I think there is, though not to reach their level, but to challenge and beat them. He has a monstrous serve and I'm surprised his team is not encouraging him to move forward more often, even if it means big number of S&V points. He can't beat them off the ground, so he needs another tactics like taking advantage of that big serve. At least he should try.

Its actually Draper but hs injuried
Then you have Musetti - also injured. And then the creme de la creme of the best tier 2 players in Aliassime (also injured), Fritz, monster Shelton, de Minaur and a near 40-year old Djokovic who's so good he can go from the 3rd round to a Slam SF without winning a set.

This match is evidence to the fact that the tour absolutely sucks besides Alcaraz and Sinner. Shelton is so hilariously bad when he plays Sinner. He always blazes through his opening rounds producing nothing but highlight reels and then against Sinner he looks like utter crap. I'm not even exaggerating about this. He can't even get set to hit his basic groundstrokes. On his backhand side he was making contact late anywhere from the level of his knees to above his forehead all match; no ability to adjust his feet to the pace of the incoming ball. Its crazy how high his ranking is. Against Sinner his serve doesn't even work because he doesn't hit his spots well but for most of the tour this dude is like karlovic.
