Earlier in the zone ball bashers used to make Iga look out of it. The past few weeks should be concerning because the opponents haven't exactly been redlining in terms of ball bashing but purely being solid all round and have been able to out play Iga.

missed the whole thing with ESPN showing college ball

definitely seems Iga's days of dominating are long gone

question: will she ever spend another day the #1 ranked player?

Swiatek hasn't been herself in a long time. Her play in United cup was below her standards. Here as well she looks outclassed despite Elena having a bad serving day

As a Swiatek fan, I feel, even if she goes on to win this match, the coach needs to sit her down and talk about her inconsistency within matches and the habit of giving in to ball bashing .
Her Wimbledon run (especially considering how dominant it was) makes less and less sense with each passing tournament. Worst surface, biggest slump of her career, and she wins it like she was playing against juniors. Then you think she’s found her footing and she continues to underwhelm for the next six months. Curious stuff

That was just an decimation, wow. And it felt Elena would could still go a gear or two above if challenged.

Iga needs to go back to the drawing board. There is a slump happening in her game that has been a bit overshadowed by the Wimbledon win.

you can see why Swiatek has just 1 slam on hardcourts.
Can we see why Rybakina has zero slams on hard courts? And she is two years older than Swiatek.

I don't think one match encapsulates any good player's career. But clearly Rybakina is now in a position to make up for a lot of disappointments over the last couple of years. She overcame Sabalenka at the WTA Finals and should be able to repeat that feat here if she holds her nerve.

it doesn't just happen, Iga...should have already been done for this one

“I'll just try another time, and hopefully with the experience and with another year of me playing and practicing, I'll be able to start next tournament, next Australian Open with some more skills or more variety or with the stuff that I wasn't able to completely work on,” said Swiatek. “Maybe I will have it next year.”
