This ATP event has a few results already, but is now rolling out most of its first round matches. Sitting at the #1, #2 poles anchoring this thing are the knackered F. Cerundolo and Darderi.
F. Cerun., sitting on a bye, is waiting hungrily for either the #96 Mighty Burro (Burruchaga) or the interesting #2 Dane, #120 Møller, to get through their 1st round. Møller actuallly defeated Comesana, the top seed in straight sets in the April 2025 Challenger Open de Oeiras, catapulting him to a lofty 114 ranking.

Well, I tried to adjust my OP to include a poll option, but I suppose it's too late to do that, because I didn't see a way to include it as an edited addition.... so, by gut, here are the higher promising people in this event.

F. Cerundolo - goes without saying - rose petals rain on him everywhere he goes

Darderi - 'nuf said, we all know him well, waits in his bye stall to roar out at the winner of Navone and Kopriva

Baez - our new David Ferrer? A fairly dependable plugger who sinks his teeth into opponents like a bulldog on good days, like a terrier on off days - should do well, has a bye, is
awaiting the winner of JM Cerun. and the fluctuating Garin

Tabilo - ranked #42 with 3 career titles, and a Chilean to boot, should do very well here.

Tirante - Argentinian w/#76 ranking, none too stable or consistent, but has good moments, making it to the 2024 Swedish Open semi including a win over Rublev, not that that's
too astounding for anyone who zeroes in on Rublev with a passion

Hanfmann - aging (34 years) - not a bad clay player, currently ranked #90, recently beaten by brother JM Cerun. in Rio

Prizmić - exciting 20-y-old Croatian full of promise who qualified for this thing and just defeated poor old Jarry in three sets to get to R2 where he'll take on Soto or Lithuania's
hope, Gaubas, who made it to R3 in the Masters Italian Open, scything his way through Dzhumur and Shapo en route

It should still be possible to add a poll; I think it's in the thread options.

Thanks for creating the tournament thread!

I think it's in the thread options.
Thank you. That's what I was looking for, but didn't find. They're closed out.

Meanwhile, I'm liking the technical underdog, Pellegrino's, chances against Comesana tomorrow in R2. On clay, so far in 2026, Pelly has a 7-3 w/l, whereas Comy has a 2-3 w/l. Average odds at this point are 1.42 Comy, 2.79 Pelly. The bookies are luring us into a trap to bet on Comy. I'm putting money (not a lot, just enough for the winnings to pay for one grande Starbuck latte plus bagel) on Pelly to take at least one set.

Pelly comes in as a Q w/victories over Elahi Galán - 2 TBs and 6-4 in 3rd, and over WC Villalón. His R1 was a low-key but 3-set win over fellow Q Barrena.
Comy comes in as #7 seed, taking out Martinez in a more competitive match concluded by a TB 3rd set.

In 2026, the last 10 matches of each: Pelly won 7, Comy won 5, with Comy having slightly higher-ranked opponents in his wins than Pelly.
If you want to look at rankings only, Comy at 82 looks better than Pelly at 137.

Gaubas in control over Soto, R1. Just took the first set 6-2, breaking Soto's serve.
This match is on TennisTV, but the Burro match isn't featured. Grrrrrr...

Møller takes Set 1, 7-4 in the TB. Will that demoralise the Burro or fire him up?
Meanwhile, Soto is waking up. 2-2 in the 2nd v. Gaubas.

Here's the draw of the Santiago tournament already in progress.

SANTIAGO DRAW

If anyone cares to share impressions of this event, at least this is a place for the random comment. Today's action begins at 16.00 GMT - that's 4 p.m. for those of you unaccustomed to using military time.
It seems you’ve taken the matter into your own hands.

Møller takes Set 1, 7-4 in the TB. Will that demoralise the Burro or fire him up?
OK, it fired him up. The Mighty Burro takes the 2nd set with a bagel. So what does that mean? Møller gamesmanly takes a rest, to surge large into the 3rd, or has he folded? I don't know if there's some minor injury bothering him, since I can't see the blasted match. I have a love/hate relationship with TennisTV. Shame on them for not featuring this apocalyptic match.

Let that be a lesson to you, Burro, don't exert yourself too much when your opponent goes weak or AWOL in one set simply to conserve energy for the next.
Møller, the gamesman, wins 7-6 (7-4), 0-6, 6-4.

So what's up with Vit Kopriva's recent rocketing out of his long-based home level (6 Challenger titles) into the main arenas? His coach is and was the "other" Pospisil, the Czech, Jaroslav, now 45 years old. Vit takes the 1st set from Navone 6-3, but is down an early break in the 2nd.

And Nava takes out Berrettini 3,4... will we ever see Berry in something close to his competitive past form again???? I hope so.

Vallejo has the early break in the first against Passaro, is serving to make it 3-1.
JM Cerund. and Garin each have one set 6-3. The third is on serve 3-3 after a couple of breaks of serve. JM a bit out of sorts since he vented to the umpire about a confusing let call. Garin's been double faulting. They plod on.

Rooting for the home player here! Why is the crowd so quiet? I would expect them to be more like the Argentinean and Brazilian crowd. Hype your boy up!

Garin broke JM, is now serving for the match at 5-3. JM doesn't really have any weapons, just some athleticism, and it doesn't seem to be enough even for a sub-par Garin.

And it's over, Garin with the W. He faces Baez next. Who will be the winner in that one? My guess is that Baez's cleaner game will prevail.

Vallejo 6-3 in the first, they're 1-1 in the second.

Well, at 3-3 in the second, Passaro retired, so Vallejo is through to R2, where he'll find Emilio Nava, ranked #76.

On to the last match today, two Chileans on Chilean dirt, Tabilo v Barrios Vera. 3-3 in the first. Tabilo has more experience and success on clay, superior ranking and the odds.
The last time these two met, Tabilo won, and it was here in Santiago in 2024. Before that, going back to 2017-2023, they met and BV won all three.
So their H2H is 4-1 in favor of BV.

So far, so good. Very good. In Tabilo's 5-5 service game to make it 6-5, he hit two aces and a nice combo ending at the net. BV is doing well to hang with him.

BV misfires a drop shot. Tabilo send his return long. 30-30. Tabilo fist-pumping for a break. BV saves SP, hoping for a TB. BV double faults, ad for Tabilo.
7-5 for Tabilo after recovering from an early break. Also recovering from Rio. So no TB for BV.

Tabilo opening the 2nd set with new balls. Messy game with errors from both, but Tabilo gets his service game.
The stands are about half empty. It's been a long day for them.
Nice 1/2 combo from BV. He's not going away just yet. Another nice 1/2, Tabilo moonballs the return, pays for it when BV puts it away decisively (almost out).

Oy, BV serving, approaches the net and makes a great-looking return but he's facing the lights and slightly misjudges. Deuce. Ad for Tabilo.
BP saved. Oops, bad drop shot. Ad for Tabilo. And TennisTV cuts out on me. When it regroups, the score is 4-2 for Tabilo.

Finally, a cheap point goes to BV. But BV's been making more errors as a whole. 12 in this second set and 29 overall.

Etcheverry withdrew before taking to the court.

Kopriva won the first set but retired while trailing in the third set.

Buse finished the match, but lost 6-2 6-7 6-7 against Tirante.

Table is about to serve for the match against Barrios Vera. What an amazing effort after the long day on Sunday and the short turnaround!

A handful of spectators are enjoying this rather one-sided beatdown of Ugo Carabelli by Hanfmann. They're in S2, Hanf having taken the 1st 6-4.

At 4-2, Hanf blew an MP with a netter. Gets another one and makes it 5-2 on Ugo's netter. Ugo to serve to stay in.
Starts it off w/DF, then hits it out. Next points by each are errors. Hanf has match point. Long see-saw game.
Deuce, MP2. Saved w/ace.
Another deuce, more trading of sloppy volley errors. 6 minutes in, Ugo holds. 5-3 for Hanf, who'll try to serve it out. His serve has been better than
Ugo's DF-riddled game.
And he does. Hanf wins it 4,3, will be in his 3rd Santiago QF.

Next up, Comesaña/Pellegrino.

Carabelli and Comesana are both out. I needn't have added them to the poll. :)

Well assessed, Unc! Pellegrino did take Comesaña out. Enjoy your bagel and grande Starbuck latte - which you can cry in due to your Burru loss. :)

Prizmic/Gaubas has gone to a third, Gaubas up 3-0 but I think it's still anybody's match...
And of course it's not featured in TennisTV.com

It doesn't look as if either TennisTV or the Tennis Channel will be featuring the last match today, either, Darderi/Navone.
Youse guys can follow the scoreline as well as I can, so let's start fresh tomorrow and hope for better coverage then.
Adios!

TennisTV is scheduling all four of today's matches, the balance of R2:

Vallejo v Nava
F. Cerundolo v. Møller
Garin v Baez
Tabilo v Tirante

Not bad at all for a 250. I'm looking forward to them all, especially the last two. Go, Baez and Tabilo!

I'm punching in late - had a task I couldn't get out of, so I missed Nava's victory over Vallejo.

Ready for Møller to make his first serve in S1. How much of a dent will he put into Francisco?
Standard hold.
Unclean hold w/ 2 DFs, but FC makes it 1-1. That game did feature a very nice DTL shot from FC.

Just made my macaroni and salsa, cheese and put it in the oven. When I return,
FC has a 4-1 lead and will serve to make it 5-1. Not much of a dent in him so far.
Lots more errors from Møller, FC is cruising.
This is my first look at Møller's play and it's not an impressive introduction to this fellow. You can roughly gauge the metal of a player when you see him/her playing someone ranked considerably higher. The promising lesser-ranked player will still make an interesting dive into play. Here I'm seeing nothing notable about Møller.
If he's Denmark's new hope, they'd better hope again.

FC is efficiently FCing, but his serve isn't even spectacular at 56% 1st in, but he doesn't need to exert himself too much.
6-2.
