Møller serves at a double break down in the 2nd. First, an ace, followed by a DF. A couple of careless errors by FC allows him to hold, now it's 5-2.
FC takes it 6-2, 6-2 in an hour and ten minutes.
Next up Garin v Baez. This should be a good one.

Missed the break Baez took over Garin due to TennisTV's problems loading. It's 4-2 in the first. Garin breaks back with some excellent ROS.

Now we're talking. Exciting shot-making, quick reactive play. Garin clutches his back after moving backward to capture a smash which went long.
TennisTV cuts out. I switch to TC, which actually shows it.

Juice (as the Brits say). Garin gets ad. And a moonball miss from Baez takes us to TB. 6-6.
Garin draws first blood on Baez's serve. But hits volley long. 1-1 in the TB.
Nice drop by Baez. 3-1 for him.
Garin nets a return. 4-1 for Baez.
5-2 for Baez. Garin standing far behind baseline. A couple of cross-court exchanges, then Baez nails one DTL. Baez takes S1,7-6 (7-2).

I picked Baez to win this, but he seems to have a bit of a fight on his hands with Garin here.

The bulldog in Baez kicks in. Juice on Garin's serve. This is absorbing.
Must say, Garin is serving better than usual. But an error sends the ad to Baez. Nice return by Garin, back to juice.
Garin approaches the net to return a dropshot and makes a good slap back. Ad for him and then he holds - tough hold. 3-0 for him in the 2nd.
If this goes to S3, I think it'll weigh in Baez's favor. Garin's performing very motivatedly here, but he looks more fatigued than Baez.

The onslaught continues. Garin is at 40-15, a point short of making it 4-0 in this set. Yikes. Where is Baez? It's not as if he's deliberately tanking it to take a rest.
Yup, 4-0.

So Garin ends up taking S2 at 6-1.
1st game of S3: Baez serves, wins a challenging game, being pushed to 40-30, before nailing it. 1-0 Baez.

I make green tea and tomato/onion/potato chip sandwich on sourdough rye. Yes, the chips right inside the sandwich, like Dolgopolov used to do.
I return. Baez returns. He broke Garin back, 2-2, will serve to try for 3-2.

Jarry seems to be struggling these days - out first round at home, in both singles & dubs. F Cerundolo ought to win it, but then, who knows. Watching Baez / Garin - SB seems to have rallied in the decider, putting up a fight.
Yes. and yes. Didn't Jarry have some injuries keeping him out of commission for a while? Is he completely healed now? He used to be pretty consistent.
And yes, maybe SB can work his way out of the better-than-average Garin service games - with some spectacular ROS work by Garin also. Is it anybody's game right now?

Wowie, Baez's forehand now is what we expected from him. He breaks Garin, 4-2 for Baez.
Uh-oh, spoke to soon. A couple of great shots from G. 30-30. Garin's forehand into the corner results in error return from SB.

Juice. Crowd goes wild when G gets another ad. Back to juice. Crowd jubilant when SB's first serve is no good - hoping for a DF.
Garin has the ad again. What a game!
Garin sends a return out. Juice. Garin has another ad. Juice with a calm DTL by SB. Another ad for Garin.
Juice, due to weak backhand ROS by G.
SB nets one. Another ad for G.
Juice. G approaches net. drop volley. G gets the break back after how many juices? 7? 8?

Each holds, 5-5.
Will this one be decided by a TB?
Baez does his bit. 6-5.
Failed drop shot by Garin under pressure. He's cracking a bit. 0-40. Saves a MP. But on the next, Baez wins it 7-5 with mild applause.

TC is showing an interesting
Will he face Tabilo or Tirante?
Good question! Tirante's no slouch, but under ordinary circumstances I'd say Tabilo is the more talented player - but he's had a rough week!
I'm trying to get TennisTV up again now that TC decided to show a women's match (not a bad one, Tomljanovic v Jovic) but I'm having blackouts at TennisTV. It really isn't worth the money they charge. Now I have to sign in again, they booted me out.

Yah man, Jarry spoke of his health issues at Wimbledon 2025. Sad when a player is hampered by injury / health issues.
Your question about Garin / Baez was spot on - it was up for grabs and SB grabbed it for the win after some poor play by Garin to get broken when trying to get to the tb. He lost despite the partisan home crowd.

OK, I'm in. It's 3-2 for Tirante, evidently he broke Tabilo.
Elegant service game from Tabilo featuring the classic one/two crosscourts and two aces. Our man is back! (Sorry, Tirante, I respect your 6 Challenger titles, recent performance improvement, etc., but Tabilo does have my heart today - I'm with the crowd.)

Tab has chance to break back after Tir DFs but it's back to juice with Tir serving at 5-4. Now has ad, set point.
Tab send a return long, 6-4 for Tir.

DitchTennisTV, Unc. There must be a better streaming service.

Tir getting fatigued, is losing his edge a bit. Tab w/break, 3-1 in the 2nd.
Tir breaks back with a neat forehand. We're back on serve, Tir to serve at 2-3
Two breaks in a row, and now Tab has BP. Loses it. Juice.
Tir loses control, send a return to the lights. Ad for Tab. Tir DFs, and it's the third break in a row!!!! 4-2 for Tab.

Difficult hold at 30 for Tab, but the scoreline's looking good to Tabilo fans: 5-2. Demoralizing for Tirante.
Tirante holds, Tabilo serves it out for the 2nd set being pushed all the way to juice.
So we refresh and get set for set 3. The players leave the court.

Tir had game point at 40-0. Tab claws all the way up to Ad, loses it and regains it. Tir about to be broken?

Nope. Tab sends one long. Juice. I missed the shot that gives Tab another ad but Tir squashes it with a good dropshot.
Tirante takes it.
Well, we're at 2-2.
AGAIN Tab claws from 0-40 to juice. Tir misses on 1st serve, gets 2nd into play, nets a ball and it's Tab's ad.
This time he does break from 0-40. The crowd is singing. 3-2 for Tab and his serve is coming up.
Can he consolidate? Anything's possible in this match. Tab is getting his aggression back.
Yup. 4-2.

Tirante having a poor 1st serve pattern. Can't seem to get those buggers in. Overall, though, some of his shotmaking was brilliant.
15-40, about to lose the match?
Yes. Tab didn't need to serve it out. Can get some physio and rest.
4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in just over two tough hours on home soil.
Plays Baez in QF.
Buenas noches. (y)

Gaubus and Hanfmann are taking the court. Unlucky omen: G, serving, loses the first point of the match. Are you superstitious about that? I'm not o_O

Just a note about my needing to go AWOL momentarily. I have a prior responsibility, and when the person I'm supposed to help is ready, I'll have to leave the thread for maybe a few hours. Meanwhile, I'm having my usual difficulty convincing TennisTV it has a responsibility to me, ha, ha. Second attempt to log in fails.

Opening match nerves for these guys. I see from the scoreboard that there were two breaks. Hanfmann to serve to make it 2-2 in the first.
And I have to go. Will return when I can. Hate to miss this Santiago tennis, but that's the way it is. See you later!

Enjoy your positive energy man, reading your comments. :) Are you supporting anyone for the title? I'm picking Cerundolo or Baez.
Watched Hanfmann / Gaubas until the middle of the 2nd set, liked the young Lithuanian. Pity he got smothered after winning the 1st set but will keep an eye out for him.
Fran Cerundolo in no mood to dilly-dally here to date, through 61,61 to win his 150th match win. Nice milestone.

Yes, that was a beatdown of Nava by Fran - is that what he's called? Not Pancho? Pancho Gonzalez - does anyone remember him - was a Francisco, and my understanding is that many people in Mexico named Francisco go by that nickname. Maybe not so much for Argentinians?
Not so positive here when dealing with TennisTV. Do you know of a good alternative?
Don't know about the outcome in the final. Cerundolo/Baez? Baez will give it all he's got, but that's good enough only if Fran/Pancho has a mediocre day?

ALL RIGHT I'm in, Pellegrino and Darderi have each taken their opening service games, 1-1 in the first. Do we stick our necks out with a prediction that's likely to deflate?
Yes, of course. We all like egg on our faces, it's nutritious. So: Darderi 6-3, 7-5. Ha, ha, watch it turn out way different.

Pellegrino held tough serve, overcoming 3 BPs, 2-2. If Darderi cruises through his service games, we'll know what will happen.
Yup. No problem for Darderi. Pellegrino next up to try to make it 3-3.

Another very long service hold from Pellly, so 3-3, but what a saga. Darderi had multiple BPs, and errors by both kept the seesaw going.
P's wearing himself out.
Darderi also holds, efficiently, and they sit down while still on serve.

And this time D manages not to let an advantage fade away; he breaks so is now serving for S1 at 5-3.
Not much resistance from P.
D has S1, 6-3

Would you believe it? P broke back due to sloppy forehand disasters - hitting balls out - from D.
A better service game from P, with DTL backhand and DTL forehand. Not a love hold, but significantly more control and purpose in his shots than earlier.
D to serve to make it 2-2.
P breaks at love; D smacks a ball into the wall in frustration. Really, shouldn't there be a Rage Room at Santiago?

Nah man, sorry. I rely on TennisTV.Com too. If there is an issue such as a sudden black screen or spooling, I close and rejoin and it usually works to resolve it. Heh, heh, I call him Fran as I'm lazy and shorten his name - no knowledge of what a proper nickname might be.

Know zero about Pellegrino, but like his fight, taking the 2nd set and forcing a decider.

Darderi has a chat with his team, looking as if he was complaining about something, after breaking P.
D serves at 2-0. P losing some focus, D looking tired. Are these guys coming to Indian Wells?
Commentator made an interesting point about the difference in the players' ranking, about 170 points.
Sometimes you see that, sometimes you don't.

^^^ Yah man, AP broken early and LD holds to go up 3-0. It looks in the bag unless AP finds some inspiration..........
Darderi is on the IW players list, AP is a qualier here - perhaps there too.
I'm off to watch the replay of some dubs in Dubai before calling it a night. Hope you'll enjoy the rest of your stint.

Dubs are so much fun. Enjoy!

Almost over. AT, slowly breaking down, is broken at love. SB serves for match at 5-1. This is painful to watch, sad for the crowd as well.
But AT tried and showed moments of brilliance. Dropshot King SB just too dominant.
SB into the SF
Buenas noches.

TB for S1.
Elegant shotmaking at net and dropshotting. SB is a man with a plan, and executes it. I've never seen him this smooth before.
SB wins s1.
Beautifully described, man, interesting observation. Wonder if AT's compromised position enabled a more serene game by SB?
Anyway, 2 sf's that could go either way - obviously depends on how they are played by each. Hanfmann can be a handful, might put up a better contest than Fran Cerundolo has had thus far. Can't pretend I have been an observer in detail of either SB's or Darderi's game, but I have a sense (could be off piste) that SB is more tenacious. Still pick FC / SB for the final.
