2026 Dallas Open- ATP 500

........Tien v. Cilic 1R might be fun!
It just might, man. Early days but Cilic, (one of my oldie favourites) took the 1st 7-5. Tien, (one of my youngster favourites)might take up the challenge - hope so.

I'll keep an eye on Shelton/Diallo and Dimitrov / Michelsen. Good to note Korda is through.

Giron played really well against Fritz last night, until the tiebreaker. Later when they interviewed Fritz he mentioned that they play each other all the time in practice which I found interesting.

Shapovalov won a match! - took out qualifier Jodar 1 and 2, and will play fellow one-hander Kovacevic
in the second round. On the down side, Dimi went out to Michelson in three. Anybody see it?

Go, both guys!

Grigor played well but he looks like he's lacking match play. He definitely has one thing in common with Fed and that's the ability to squander break points. He was up 1-0 and 0-40 on Michelson's serve in the 3rd set and blew that game. Also had tons of break points throughout the match. Just made too many sloppy errors on important points. If he cleaned up a few important points here and there he would have won in 2 sets easy. The good news is that he looked physically well and was serving great.

Thanks for this match info on Dimi- much appreciated.

For those who might not know, Tien went out 5 and 6 to Cilic in the first round. bummer.
Bet the latter was serving huge ( I didn't see it).

Two SoCal guys are probably friends. Many ATP and WTA players practice with other players. Most are friendly, not that many rivalries. The Tours are a traveling circus all about making money.

Some good matches in Dallas man. Just watched the replay of Tiafoe / Korda - SK playing beautifully late in the 1st , breaking FT to clinch it after being a break down earlier in the set. Staved off TF's efforts, staying focused. Like the dude's serenity and poise. TF seemed subdued somehow after an incisive start - hope he's okay.
Come on Cilic! Watching this and the FAA match in Rotterdam. Looking forward to Shapavalov later.

Yah man, Cilic's playing very well. Confidence shows- great serving, clean hitting. Good to see the oldies enjoying the autumn of their careers.

It'll be interesting to see whether he holds up against Fritz and/or Shelton, who are obviously a step up from whom he's played so far - but also obviously a step down from Cilic at his best.

Mannarino gave Shelton all he could handle, but couldn't quite get over the finish line. 6-7 7-6 3-6.

I can't watch the match, who took the medical timeout? Korda or Fritz?
It was TF with a shoulder something or other requiring attention several times.
Despite it he clinched the 2nd set, was down 2-5 in the 3rd set tb to pull back assisted by SK who overhit 2 forehands leaving TF to serve it out. Dude refused to concede. Close match - pity SB couldn't prevail but alas, not overly surprised.

I do not dislike Fritz- he's working hard to maximize his talent, and I admire that- but I was really hoping
Korda could keep the roll going here. Alas.. keep working, Seb; you're right on the cusp.

I'm kind of over pulling for Korda, the guys is like 6 foot 5 and he has elite genetics and all the resources to be great, but I just feel like he doesn't care that much and he's happy to be a top 50 player. His sisters can take all the attention and fame, he's ok with where he is. I could be wrong and he's just been derailed by injuries, etc. all these years, not sure. I don't see how he loses to Zheng at the Australian Open, it's crazy.

I hear ya- but I see that easy ballstriking again, and think of what could be..

Are you supposed to suddenly start scream grunting on every shot when you’re trying to get a break point? Are you supposed to do the same thing on the break point itself and then revert to no scream grunting the following game?

So Fritz took the semi over Cilic, 7-6 (5) 7-6 (3).

Fritzi v. Shapovalov or Shelton in the final, then.

Go, Shap! Get feral, dude
