2026 Dallas Open- ATP 500

Shame really, he seemed to have found some magic on his return here.
Look, the fact that he made the SF and was within points of winning (in straights, and in the TB) as the 7th seed against the 2nd seed is a good thing for him.

Of course I wish he had won, and I think we all know he should have, but he is ranked #9 and Shapo is ranked #40.

A few hours after De Minaur reached career final #20, Fritz did, too. They are also both 10-9 in their first 19 finals. I'm hoping Fritz gets to #11 and De Minaur does not. I think FAA is favorite against De Minaur, but Fritz v Shelton is a tough call.

Happy to see either guy take this title, I feel like Fritz is banged up and might not be 100% so I'd put money on Shelton.

It has been more than 44 years since the first and second seeds have played in the final of three ATP Tour events in the same week. That will change on Sunday.

At the Nexo Dallas Open, the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam and the IEB+ Argentina Open, the first and second seeds will clash for the trophies. It will be the first time that has happened since the week of 19 October 1981 in Melbourne, Tokyo and Vienna. The only other time on record it has happened was the week of 6 October 1980 in Barcelona, Brisbane and Tel Aviv.

Ivan Lendl, one of 29 members of the ATP No. 1 Club, was involved in both weeks and both times claimed glory (Barcelona in 1980 and in Vienna in 1981).

Continuing the theme of players holding their ranking (which applied to this season before this week, as the AO was the first major in the open era in which all of the last 16 men were seeded, and in which all of the top six seeds made the quarter-finals in both men's and women's singles), #1 beat #2 in Rotterdam, #1 is a set up on #2 in Dallas, and #1 is serving for the first set against #2 in Buenos Aires. So, we could easily have not only three #1 v #2 finals but three #1 beat #2 finals. Long way to go in both Dallas and Buenos Aires, though.

Shelton continues to be one of the players maximizing his talent by virtue of mental toughness and doing well in tight situations.

We ended up one point away from all three #1s beating the #2 before Shelton's turnaround. Easy for Cerundolo against Darderi, which surprised me, having seen Darderi beat Cerundolo in Bastad last July.

Shelton keeps winning despite not actually being that good. He's on a generational run of just winning every single tight match hard to imagine it's sustainable.

Shelton faces down 3 championship points from Fritz to turn the tables and take the title in Dallas. It is his 4th ATP singles title, 2nd at 500 level and 1st this season. He becomes the 5th member of the current top #10 to win a title this season (along with Alcaraz, Auger-Aliassime, Bublik and De Minaur). He is the 15th American player to win the home title in Dallas.

Shelton wins after being down a set in the QF, SF, and F.
Yah man, dude's worked hard and stayed focused seemingly against the odds. Good job to win his 4th ATP title. TF too had challenges with an injury issue when he was down against against Korda, did well to get through.
Enjoyed seeing Cilic in good form again - best memories from the event for me.
