First time I’ve seen Scotland play the World Cup in my lifetime. I’m excited.

Damn, I was running home to see Colin Hendry and his luscious locks up against R9 and you weren’t even born? Cheers for that, doesn’t make me feel old at all :)

One thing I’ve just realised, I’m not actually sure where you’re from? Are you at the World Cup?

Born in Scotland, lived in America for many years, and now back to Scotland. Not at the World Cup, no.

Ahh I always assumed American! I think that’s the case for most posters though, it’s an American website/forum afterall.

How long have you been back in Scotland? I guess that means you have two teams to back in the World Cup. Not sure who I expect to go further out of USA and Scotland

I think I saw a scenario saying if everything goes to plan, in the last 16 England will play either Mexico or Scotland at the Azteca. Either of those would be wild.

Scotland, USA, and Argentina are the teams I’m backing. Rooting against Portugal and England. Although part of me wants to see Sir Harold Edward Kane lift the World Cup. @Kralingen would be in heaven.

This is just surreal. This is a sleepy town in the middle of North Carolina where nothing really happens. I would visit my friend here back in the mid-2010s and sleep over in the dorms and now we’ve got Haaland and Odegaard… where are they even going to eat man like there’s not many restaurants there, great BBQ I guess but it’s still crazy

Damn, where do you live these days? You might’ve seen Haaland down the shops.

Being a Scot, you should worship Maradona.
I respect Maradona, but he’s before my time. I’ve grown up watching Messi. Also i am a long time hater of Manchester United since i was a kid and Messi delivered for me when I needed him there. lol

It’s a red menace! Let’s go Canada!

Kral when he bumps into Haaland in Kernesville Walmart.

Only thing worse than today would be England winning this.

Not a chance. You’re safe.

I thought maybe quarters or semis. But we’re seeing why Tuchel has been poor for the last 5 years.

Ever since he got found out after a couple of good months at Chelsea and he couldn’t change things? He’s been awful. Poor management, then a stint as sporting director (where he wasted money on Sterling, Koulibaly, Aubameyang, tried to sell Colwill etc..). Then he left off the back of rumours of cheating on his wife with a club employee and drugs. Went to Bayern, where he was awful and got dog walked by rookie Alonso. You really have to mess up not to win the title with Bayern in Germany.

Then onto England, where he’s rapidly undone all the excellent work done by Southgate (say what you want about him, he’s no tactical genius, but his work in fixing the culture and the intangibles was something I’m not sure another manager on the planet could’ve achieved).

Mexico or Scotland exit in the R16 is my best guess. But could be earlier if they meet someone decent.

Ederson is a late World Cup call-up for Brazil following an injury to Wesley.

I was talking to a friend from Brazil when the squad was announced. She said the main issue was not enough midfielders (and Ancelotti playing 4-2-4).

Seems like the Wesley injury is a blessing in disguise!

Kind of anyway. Wesley is really good, I seem to remember you watched (and probably had a good laugh at) Fluminense v Chelsea at the CWC last summer? He was incredible in that game. Been really good for Roma this year too, so he’s a loss. Especially when the shell of Danilo is his backup.

But yeah, another midfielder in the squad and hopefully cementing the recent change to 4-3-3 is an overall positive for Brazil, I think.

Unpopular opinion: I like the World Cup theme song. It’s being memed to death and I get why, but it’s catchy af. Leave my boy Jelly alone.

Can’t say it’s really my thing, but younger people seem to be into that stuff. Not sure what to call it.. like modern country? To me it sounds like AI generated stuff with a hillbilly accent :-D you hear girls singing along to Sabrina Carpenter and whatnot. Eesh. But yeah, I’m probably just too old to get it.

Meanwhile a Brazilian beer company used a song that turns 50 next year. Just a good advert overall.

It does sound like a song you’d hear in a Ford explorer ad..lol. It fits the American vibe though.

:-D accurate description!

It’s funny you say that, I have to watch the 3pm PL games on a dodgy firestick, some days it’s Hong Kong TV, others America, Australia etc..

I’d say the tv commercials in each one are exactly as you’d imagine. It’s probably one of my favourite things about having to watch that way. Every other ad in Australia is a fella with a mullet either driving a “ute” in the desert or advertising “Hard Yakka” work boots. They also call Burger King “Hungry Jacks” over there, apparently. Although they do keep trying to sell me a burger with pineapple on it. Not having that.

Yeah I’ve seen that when I was over there, at first I thought it was blatant copyright infringement lol. Then I realized that they call it Hungry Jacks but it’s Aussie Burger King.
Apparently they also eat Kangaroo, one of the only countries on the planet that eats it’s National Animal.

They do yeah! Apparently it’s supposed to be really good for you. Incredibly lean and full of nutrients.

I saw a stall at a Christmas market doing exotic meats. Ostrich meatballs, kangaroo burgers etc.. I gave it a miss :D

Here’s the Hungry Jacks ad I saw quite a bit during the PL coverage this season. Pineapple is something I can’t get my head around.

Vancouver, Seattle, Toronto, Mexico City and Atlanta rank as the top FIFA World Cup host cities in North America.

Too bad Montreal didn’t get to host any matches; otherwise, it would have been there as well.
