Women's empowerment. Play best of 3 and take same prize money as men.

Well never mind. Where s the poll
I could post the poll now, but there's a chance one of the top players might still pull out.
Once the poll is posted I can't make this type of change.
If enough people are clamoring for it though I'll post it early.

ship-of-Theseus Oceane Dodin.
What is that referring to? Oh, I found the explanation... poor allegory, in yesterday's match you couldn't see anything that was not genuine.
I had quite little time to watch the qualies yesterday live but I watched three snippets of Dodin vs Kayla Day and the last one was of the deciding 3rd set tie-break. I stopped watching when Dodin fell 3-5 behind as I thought she will surely lose. Later I found out she actually won in the end and I watched that ending and the very last point was maybe the crappiest MP I have ever seen: first miss Day served well long and wide... and then she crowned everything with frame hit on 2nd serve and the ball went to the lower part of the net on the wrong side of the court! :-D

I would like the see - or would have liked - the following players go through the qualies:

L. Fruhvirtova
Hon (unfortunately already lost)
Zavatska ("Angel face" already won her 1st match)
Andreescu (also has one down already)
Timofeeva
P. Kudermetova (Maybe she'll wake up again - at least for temporarily!? )
Tomova

And why not adult model Dodin too, but I'm quite sure her tank will be empty before three victories there. Fortunately her tank tops are nicely filled forever! :D

ATTENTION!!! Anybody that can watch WTA-tournaments daily that would like to create a topic for Strasbourg tournament? I don't know where "Clayseasonnow" has vanished and that tournament is of good quality enough, so it should have its own topic!? (Perhaps Rabat should be added to the topic's name even though it's really poor tournament for WTA250 )

Is this the most open the women's side of the draw has been for a slam? Feel like 5/6 players in with a good chance of winning it
I agree, especially since you just don't know what you're going to get from Sabalenka & Rybakina in their curren forms. Swiatek is the biggest wild card imho, which is crazy to say about a 4 time French Open winners.

Clayseasonnow, AKA Spystud probably got a little aggressive again, I didn't think so, but this site is "enlightened", so you have to play nice.

This time I haven't seen anything not-within-guidelines stuff from him, so I thought that maybe he just have had enough now or is ill (to extent that can't write here) or something. I don't want to open WTA-topics myself because I can't follow them live. (Except the tournament in Prague on July - I will be present there for 3 days. This was ascertained today :) )

My faves in the RG-qualies have been kicking ass big time (except Hon, of course!) today!

Bronzetti just scrapes by ancient Lepchenko in the Qualies 1st round.
After leading 7-2 in the final tie-break she finished with a score of 10-7.

Not quite as old as Venus, Lepchenko has been playing on the WTA tour for
25 years! Many WTA players weren't even born or were in diapers when she became a pro. :)

I saw Lepchenko playing live against glamour girl Corinna Dentoni in Rome 2012 and Lepchenko wasn't exactly youngster looking even back then. (Dentoni still played small ITF-torunaments 4-5 years ago supported by some at least 30 year older 'Sugar daddy'! )

"Last seen yesterday at 7:16 AM", so maybe taking a break or just busy. Edit: probably banned around that time, because the profile says "oops".

Korneeva won her first match. She’s struggled since beating Mirra in the AO jrs a few years ago. She’s up to a career high of 117 now, still just 19 y/o so perhaps another nextgenner to challenge the existing order.

Linda Fruhvirtova won her first match as well. Been a rough couple of years for her and her sister. Linda is hanging in there, ranked 149 rn, but Brenda has dropped below 1200, not sure if it’s injuries or burn out or what. Just goes to show how cruel this sport can be.

Korneeva seems to be completely injury-free now but she is having hard time right now against Argentinian Jazmin Ortenzi of whom I have hardly even heard before. Argentinian has played very well the first couple of games.
Does @NaomiKonjuhPotapova still believe Korneeva could have even more successful career than Mirra?

Brenda F. had some psychological issues last year, did a bit of a come back late 2025 and early 2026 but has been again absent since February. I don't know if it's physical injury now or same as earlier or maybe she has given up altogether?

Bibi's match would already be on, but I find this Korneeva vs Ortenzi so interesting that I stick with this (Korneeva has gotten into set even though is still a break behind at 2-4)

What a cool customer this Kuder is!
2 points away from losing the 1st set she evens the score at 6-6 and then storms through the tie-breaker to win it 7-2.

The bottom half of this draw is so obscenely and unfairly stacked, and the top half is comparatively nothing. The highlight of the whole thing, Iga praying someone can take out Penko before round 3 :-D

Are the qualies on HBO Max in the US?

I thought they were, and they have replays, but I can't find the live matches.

Was hoping to watch Mary Stoiana-Ashlyn Krueger

Some very competitive, promising 1st round matches:

Top:
Sonmez - Kasatkina
Eala - Jovic (tough way to start)
Mboko - Bartunkova (Bart could be a little tricky for Mboko)
Potato - Joint (Joint always dangerous)
Alexandrova - Osorio

Bottom:
Svito - Bondar (Bondar has been quite hot as of late but Svito should prevail)
Kenin - Stearns (could be a close one)
Fernandez - Parks (you never know which Parks will show up)
Linette - Valentova
Rakhi - Cristian
Yastrem - Paolini (tough way to start)
Baptiste - Krej (tough way to start)

I was really amazed that Krueger was in the qualies in the first place!? When did she fall that low in the rankings?

It was not a big surprise that Bibi didn't make it through the qualies but losing to a player that "sporty" looking as Hruncakova... yikes!

I would have put Kostyuk in the poll, but I kinda get why Mark didn't put her there but I would claim she is more probable winner than Mboko and at the moment I have little faith on Anisimova too.

About those picks only that much that if "old Kasatkina" re-appears she will deal with my fave Sönmez easily. But if it's the Kasatkina of the last half a year or so, Sönmez should beat her with clear numbers.

As much as Sabalenka v JBM looks like a tough R1 match up (providing JBM is even near her top form), who are Sabalenka's challengers in her quarter? Osaka, Mboko, Keys and Pegula (you could add Shnaider IF she was in top form). On clay that's a pretty dream quarter for Sabalenka.
In the top half of the draw you can add Gauff, Anisimova, Zheng and Noskova, with the latter 3 being in the same 8th of the draw. I struggle to see it being anything other than Sabalenka v Gauff in the SF unless Osaka/Mboko can surprise us and find another gear, Keys/Pegula can play their absolute best, or the winner from the Anisimova/Zheng/Noskova 8th find their form again.

Andreescu did not make it through the qualies, losing to Viktória Hrunčáková in the second round.
Wow, the whole Andreescu story just keeps getting stranger and sadder by the day. I really don't understand it...

(But then I really don't understand her. My GF recently walked in while I was watching one of her matches, and since she hadn't seen Andreescu's face in a long time she immediately said, "WTF did she do to herself?")

Also from qualifying, it's a little sad to see former French Open semi-finalist Zidansek eliminated in 2nd round qualifying.

And who was the #1 seed in qualifying (that lost). I'd never heard of her, and she was the top qualifying seed? How?

I wrote her off years ago now, even though I was quite a fan of hers once.
I think it was a combination of factors that did her in.
Covid took away an entire year from her shelf life, when arguably
she was at her peak. Her string of injuries also started in 2020.

She's been a shadow of the player she once was and I don't see
any encouraging signs for her future tennis career.
Unless somehow a magic switch is flipped in her brain/body
that allows her to regain her previous form long enough
for her to make a mark before her next injury surfaces.

That Thai-lady Tararudee has mainly had success on ITF tour (both in Asia and Usa!) and is thus a bit same kind of case as Ukrainian Oliynykova that somehow had gotten in the top 100 early this year despite being unfamiliar for practically everybody on this forum.

Zidansek as Slam semi-finalist sounds like some kind of Mandela-effect thing!? I must have watched the tournament intensively but just can't remember that kind of triumph!??:oops:

I have quite enjoyed watching the Zavatska-Bronzetti-match (Zavatska took the first by 6-3) but the screaming is getting really crazy in this!:oops::sick:

spystud didn't need to be foul to be re-banned; once he was banned as spystud, his re-establishment as clay... itself was a sufficient basis to drop him again. It was such a blatant, thinly-disguised fraud. Now the thread is safe again for past victims of his absurd vitriol.
He was banned from Sudden Death League for being himself: foul-mouthed aggressor, and he held a grudge against SDL ever since with baseless nastiness directed at SDL.

Tararudee plays a lot of 100s and 125s in Portugal, so I've had the chance to watch her quite a bit over the years.
Last year was probably her most successful season and she carried that form into the American hard court season (won the Austin 125 earlier this year beating Andreescu in the final).
I guess she struggles on clay though.

Congratulations to Petra Marcinko, winner of her first WTA 250 in Rabat.
Watched her a few weeks ago at the Oeiras 125 where she beat Sramkova in a great match and went on to lose in the semifinal to Kraus.

Great talent, curious to see if she can win a round or two at Roland-Garros.
She should give Lys a run for her money in the first round.

Sloane qualified, nice! Hope she survives at least the first round.
2nd major in a row she's gone through qualies.
Lost to Pliskova in R1 of the AO even though she owned the H2H against Pliskova going into it.
Bejlek won Abu Dhabi in Feb but if I recall correctly she's not done much during the clay swing this year and on top of her F in 2018 Stephens have made week 2 of RG a few more times on top of that. Hopefully we get Swiatek v Stephens in R2 but I don't have high hopes for a 3 setter or W for Stephens.
