Fantastic performance by Maja, but I can't imagine Saba not crushing all of those floaters. No matter, what an accomplishment!
Yeah the run ends here and probably with a 6-1 6-2 loss or something against Sabalenka. Nevertheless what an amazing run, she advances from needing to qualify for a Slam to being seeded in one LOL. Nice paycheck to cover her expenses too. Also it's fun to see someone other than a ballbasher for some diversity.

The only thing that can work for her in the SF is that she's got absolutely nothing to lose. She loses 6-1 6-1 big deal.

The QFs on the women's side been a bit of a let down, I dont hold out much hope for a competitive match between Saba and Shnaider either unfortunately.

Chwalinska to make the SF:

QR2: #196 Monnet
QR3: #128 Lamens
1R: #56 Zheng
2R: #21 Mertens
3R: #49 Sakkari
4R: #92 Parry
QF: #24 Kalinskaya

No top 20 players faced. Not bad, not bad. Giving Raducanu vibes lol.

At least Yastremska when she made the 2024 Aus Open SF beat #7 Vondrousova who was Wimbledon champ and also #18 Azarenka lol.

I predict 6-0, 6-1! Totally agree on her variety, it's great to see unpowered, movement-centric tennis still work in this day and age.

Yea except Raducanu won the title (beating nobody in the top 10 too) and Chwalinska has #1 Sabalenka in the SF. Comparing a W run to a SF run, so fair.

Also if by some miracle Chwalinska beats Sabalenka that win alone will trump Raducanu's entire career.

Heartbreaking to me not seeing AK continuing making a breakthrough, but she still has a ways to go to be more consistent, and great improvement for her this slam and back in Rome. Solid counterpunching performance by Chwalinska, did not make many UE's.

What about if Saba turns her ankle and Chwalinska beats Shnaider and then Kostyuk for the title?

Still, she was barely making a living off of tennis 2 weeks ago and now she's playing the #1 in the world in a Slam SF. She gets mauled 6-1 6-1, who cares.

Anna effectively told her coach to shove it halfway through the second set and proceeded to self destruct.

Then and only then we can make comparisons. Comparing Raducanu's full run when she didn't beat a single top 10 player to Chwalinska who has to go through #1 Sabalenka in the SF is so unfair it isn't funny.

If Chwalinka beats Schaider and Kostyuk for the title then she can get flak for her draw while she laughs all the way to the bank.

Totally, she was being helped out with accommodation by Iga's sponsors. They actually also share the same physical preparation coach (Maciek Ryszczuk).
Now she's in the top 30 with a fat paycheck for this tournament alone, probably sponsorships coming. It's crazy how one tournament can turn your life around so fast.

If anyone streaming can rewind go and see the first rally at 4-2 in the second how Maja can seemingly be in a retriever moonballer position but totally dictating the point and finishing with a winner

The Jasmine Paolini draw

Xinran Sun is struggling right now. Luckily Kovackova won her match.
Super-lovely Burcescu making quite an upset in girls series if she can keep the lead. I'm changing there, ears start to bleed otherwise...

I was fortunate to see Jana Kovackova in action in February. She is a really tough one and wasn't she the first time in girls slam at age 12!?!

I saw an unconfirmed that a WTA player has accused two top20 players of bullying and intimidation. The description of those players seem like svitolina and kostyuk.

Do you have any more on that

Sabalenka takes the first set 6-3.

Wasn't easy, not looking the overwhelming favourite that so many here think she is..

We've seen Sabs choke much easier slam runs than this..

Just an incomprehensible miss from Shnaider on BP. You cannot miss those against a player of this level. Horrible, costly miss.

Shnaider really not reading what she had to do there to break at all there. Big let off for Saba. She just had to get her returns in and let Saba miss, she didnt need to go for the winners and miss like she did.

Much, much better by Sabs and she now has break point to start set 2.

Shnaider was 40-15 up, now down BP.

And Sabalenka breaks. Let's run away with this gal.

Don't think so, you might mistaken for her sis
Ok, not in slams but as exceptionally young in decent size junior-tournaments and huge number of victories at 13. I'm sure she started also in Slams younger than her sister. Both are so small in size that it might stop them from reaching very high rankings on WTA.

I can already see Kostyuk winning this slam beating Sabs in the final with another Sabalenka choke.

What a monumental moment that would be after all the Ukraine v Russia discussion of the war.

Sabalenka to blow another slam (to be expected). If it's Kostyuk in the final, I think she wins, if it's Andreeva, then Sabalenka wins.

My prediction anyway.

Which ones recently? I don't think she's had a loss anything like as bad as losing to Shnaider or Chwalinska would be, so I'd say she's almost sure to make the final. Losses such as the Muchova one three years ago are probably comparable to losing to Kostyuk or Andreeva, so I agree that the final isn't guaranteed. But, even then, Saba wouldn't have been favorite against Swiatek in a RG final in those days even if she'd beaten Muchova.
