Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill has more PHDs per capita than anywhere in the world. Nice try.
NC State shouldn't take credit for most of the work done by Duke and UNC!
Yes, Sabalenka's chances of a Djokovic-like surge of slams in the second half of her career are very slim. There are too many young players on the WTA tour who will become major obstacles. 1-3 more for Sabs? It's possible, sure. But a double-digit career total? No.
Yep, Andreeva, Mboko, and Jovic are still very young and improving. Sabalenka only has about 3 years of her prime left. Djokovic could leave his prime and still win slams because he's the GOAT and being 80-90% of the GOAT is still enough. Sabalenka is not even an ATG yet. 80-90% of an almost ATG might not be enough.

kostyuk probably having to go back to back against the Russians, she’ll be amped af rn

she reminds me of this with how much hatred she has inside her. i can only hope the potato nose will not be holding that trophy.

Schneider played epic.
Mid way through the match, Sabalenka looked at the wind and decided not to like tennis anymore.

the Pros and the wind, man... they should all come to the southern parts of the US in the spring/early summer and have at it. i wouldn't be surprised if they get bageled by some of the top juniors here lmao

Serena won 8 after 31. Including Serena slam at 34. But of course Sabalenka is no Rena.

It depends on your criteria for ATG.
I'd place her over Swiatek due to overall consistency of going deep into slams and more of an all surface player in terms of consistency even though Iga has won on all three and I think most would consider her an ATG.
I'll say borderline ATG just to compromise.
So do you place Murray over Becker and Edberg because Murray was more consistent in going deep?

In any case, Swiatek also has a YEC that Sabalenka doesn't, Swiatek's career win percentage is 79.5%, significantly higher than Sabalenka's 73.7%, Swiatek's win percentage in slams is 83.2%, significantly higher than Sabalenka's 78.2%, and Swiatek has 32 more weeks at #1 and 2 more slams.

how does she lose a set at love in a Slam QF? answer: tanked. gave up. quit.
I watched the match. She definitely did not tank, but out of desperation, she totally lost it because she could see a bagel on the horizon as the 3rd set progressed and lost control. Shnaider was completely in control; she took the racket out of Sabalenka's hand. Sabalenka had no idea where Shnaider's ball was going to land.

how does she lose a set at love in a Slam QF? answer: tanked. gave up. quit.

I will try to summarize it for you.

- Sabalenka wins first set 6/3
- Sabalenka breaks Shnaider’s serve in the opening game of the second set. So that is 6/3 1/0, and then confirms the break easily to reach 6/3 2/0. What can go wrong?
- Shnaider holds her serve, Sabalenka reciprocates.
- So Sabalenka leads 6/3 3/1, and then breaks Shnaider serve at love. That's Sabalenka leading 6/3 4/1. What can go wrong?
- So Sabalenka serving leading 6/3 4/1 (remember, double break lead), and she gets to 30/0 What can go wrong?
- Then, she loses four consecutive points and gets her serve broken.
- Then Shnaider serves 3/6 2/4 and holds.
- Sabalenka serving 6/3 4/3, but she starts down 0/40 with Shnaider having 3 break points to equal it 4/4. Sabalenka wins her serve from there.
- So it's 6/3 5/3 now instead of 6/3 4/4, big disappointment for Shnaider. What can go wrong?
- Shnaider holds in her next service game, so Sabalenka now leads 6/3 5/4, and she is going to serve for the match.
- Sabalenka serving 6/3 5/4 30/15, she has easy putaway to earn double match point for 40/15. What can go wrong?
- But she misses the putaway, and then three consecutive points, and gets broken. Score now 6/3 5/5. Well, let's wait.
- So Sabalenka ends up losing the four last games of the second set, with a 7/5 score, after being broken twice. Well, a new set and she will reset, OK? What can go wrong?
- Shnaider now 3/6 7/5 1/0 after holding serve in the first game of the third set. Sabalenka is a champion, she's been there so many times.
- Sabalenka is broken in her first service game of the third set after six deuces, two missed game points, and on the fourth break point of a game lasting more than ten minutes. She is now down 0–2 in the third set.
- Sabalenka loses four more games, making it 10 in a row (and 12 of the last 13). By the way, Sabalenka did not even have a single break point on Shnaider's serve during all the third set.
- I turned the TV off.

Roland Garros is likely on track for another year of record revenue.
The tournament is doing very well without its two superstars, Sinner and Carlitos, thank you very much; indeed it is actually more interesting.
It teaches us that no players are bigger than the sport!

100% correct. The only people bigger than the sport are its owners. In my opinion, they should be making even more money. Players, after all, are merely interchangeable and expendable spare parts.

If Sinner is unavailable, and you want an Italian, there is no problem at all: you can simply substitute Cobolli, Arnaldi, or Berrettini. Take your pick. The machine keeps running.

And we have not even begun to discuss the contributions of Zverev, who is always there and doesn’t want to win big.

It was particularly impressive the way the system's retribution did not kick in until each player was a mere one game from victory. A very sadistic, and finely calibrated, form of deterrence.

Then we wouldn't have to listen to her scream, grunt or make some other weird sound every shot.
If she kept doing the AAAAAAAAAAHs throughout I wouldn't like it, but at least I'd know what to expect, but lately she's added those really weird guttural UUUUUGHHHRRRs and it just sounds like she's possessed by the devil. Awful.

I am just catching up on the womens matches now, and what a hilarious/beautiful performance Chwalinska. Imagine having a brain and just playing intelligently in the conditions. Imagine a professional athlete whose principle problem was that she wasn't patient enough to deal with such a gameplan.

Saba never learns. It's always the same type of loss over and over again. Start playing with a brain, instead of bashing like a banshee on steroids. But she has no self control.

Djokovic won those slams in his 30’s because the competition was garbage. I mean he was beating up on bums like Tsitsipas who can barely crack the top 100 in his late 20s.

So Sabalenka was Not injured ,, did not have heat stroke,,, did not have full body cramps like Sinner,, but it was Windy.......... but Coco wasnt' playing so what is up with that ??

Like others, i'm surprised not just by the loss, but by the loss after having a sizeable lead. And then bowing out 0-6 in the the third.
