Who will be 2026 French Open Women's singles champion?

I'm starting to believe Jana Kovackova burned bright too early!? And she might end Brenda F.-like very soon. :( She will probably win the girls doubles again though, despite not having sister as partner anymore.

Siniakova/Townsend is getting even more superior to other pairs than earlier as so many top doubles players has changed pairs recently.

Raducanu was an accident. She had no clue what was going on, and that was her biggest asset. Her ignorance (of the pressure) was bliss. All of her (and Fernandez's) opponents simply broke down mentally at the thought of losing to such lowly players.

True about Vondrousova, but Andreescu has been worse than Raducanu for the past 3 years with Raducanu winning 56% of her matches to Andreescu's 47%, and that's while Raducanu has had to play top 10 players much more often (19 times to 9). Andreescu has been struggling to get through qualifying.

Yeah, with Errani, Hsieh, Mertens, Dabrowski, and Ostapenko all switching around so much recently, they haven't had time to become comfortable and adjust to their newer-ish partners, whereas Siniakova and Townsend play like a smooth-running machine. Danilina/Krunic are the exception and they did beat them in Australia and at last year's RG and are a surprising 2-0 against Siniakova/Townsend. Let's see if they can pull off the hat trick.

You are correct that I will be cheering for Mirra as I have been a fan of hers for years.
But I try to be objective when I make calls on matches such as these.


Mirra's game has clearly improved this year and in particular the last few months.
I downgraded her stock a couple of years ago to a 'hold' and I lost my enthusiasm about her during most of that time.
Now that she has made very noticeable improvements to her game I am quite optimistic about her future. I have already dubbed her new form as Mirra II (2).
I am upgrading my call for her from a 'hold' to a 'buy' win or lose in the final.

And yes, I do maintain that shot for shot she is far superior to 'wali.
As I said the only thing that could stop her from claiming the title is some kind of mental collapse which could be caused by her becoming overwhelmed by the huge occasion and becoming annoyed by 'wali's wily play.

So happy for Mirra. :)
Brutal playing conditions but both players had to deal with them and Mirra was able to troubleshoot them better than 'wali.
Load up on Mirra stock everyone while they're still cheap. :)

Maja given her game requires ball to bounce high, does a fraction more extension and needs to "swipe" the ball a fraction longer.

Windy conditions might be her biggest nightmare.

Andreeva too over extends on Backhand but she leans in to them so it's tad bit easier for her.
 
Haven't been watching the whole match, but feels like Townsend is carrying Siniakova in this 2nd set until Siniakova can figure her game out. Siniakova is fired up out there, for good or for bad.

Siniakova did figure it out and now they're locked in. Beautiful to watch.
 
Chuffed for Andreeva and doesn’t feel like a fluke ala Ostapenko, Kenin, Raducanu, Sloane.

A young player with immense talent and yes the final opponent was an easy one but Maja had a brilliant tournament.

Hoping Mirra continues from here. Not sure what slam I predict her to win next. Not Wimbledon this year but maybe next year? She did make the quarters last year but let’s see. I actually see an Aus Open for Mirra going forward

Late reply here, but I agree about recent results. Both have been bad, and Andreescu has been a little worse lately. I was just saying that Andreescu's peak lasted much longer, almost an entire season...

She wasn't even alive in 2006.

I plead guilty, I had to google cause it was bugging me. I was wondering who I missed. I thought maybe it was someone who never properly announced a retirement like Kuznetsova. But knew you’d have the numbers down pat!

Missed Vika. Damn she got so close to getting her 3rd slam a few years ago. Ditto for Kvitova who I also thought you may have included. She got so close as well.

Azarenka is still officially active (although I suspect the end is not far off). However I don't think she's played this season so maybe easy to forget her. I knew Kvitova had retired (busy having babies these days).

Kuznetsova is the one that always gets me since she never retired officially. Jankovic was the same but believe she officially announced in like 2022, several years since her last match.

Their Wiki entries state Kuznetsova retired in 2021 and Jankovic, as you say, in 2022.

Jankovic officially retired after doing the Adria tour with Djokovic and made an announcement. Kuznetsova has never officially called it quits. Was always one of my fav players and she’s always teased a return (I don’t expect it and it’s been many years now). But she’s never officially said goodbye. That’s why I’m always torn with her haha. Especially since she had a second career almost a decade after her first 2 slams.
