I mean I agree Mensik could get tired or fatigued. But I think two days rest and the adrenaline of a slam SF should stand him in good steed to start things off. Tiredness, imo, would only be a factor if Zverev keeps him out there for four, five hours.
Yes I do hope mensik wins this. As you can see when he’s on , he’s a problem. I’ve been hard on him bc everytime he shows his potential, he fades the next tournament or two. Lol. He didn’t build off his doha run and win vs. sinner.

Tennis could be in good hands if mensik, Tien, Fonseca and Jodar build off their recent results and potential.

That foursome would be quite electric if they all deliver. Quite eclectic and all very capable.

Neo-Mensik to save tennis. Zverev will butcher a volley at a pivotal moment.
Took me way to long to find this gif:

No excuse for Zverev to lose this. It is NOW or NEVER. These next 2 matches are the MOST PIVOTAL matches of his life. He HAS to win.
If you're a fan of Tennis, you should be supporting Zverev to win the title.
When a potential Hall of Famer like him wins so many Masters, Olympic Gold, YEC, beats the Big 3 regularly etc etc - he DESERVES to win a slam more than all other players who have NOT done ANY of these things.
It would be a CRUEL TWIST of FATE if someone else won the French Open. Someone like Raducanu who didn't do anything much in Tennis, but just peaked for 2 weeks and won a title they didn't deserve much.

All I ask is the dumb-dumb brigade, if Mensik loses, don't start with the 'Fonseca died for this' crap. Fonseca got his butt kicked up and down the street. He didn't deserve the win, he doesn't deserve the shot, and if Mensik can't beat Zverev, then Fonseca likely wasn't going to have a better chance.

They both lost pretty epic battles to him this clay season :-D

Hear, hear!

The first line of your post is clearly correct. Everything else is wrong.

Exactly

Zverev should win but one can't ignore his history. Nerves likely will be going all around, but the pressure is all on Zverev and he's bound to get tight.

Mensik's deficiencies [first serve % and forehand technique on low balls] strike me as easier to fix compared with Fonseca's [lateral movement and shot tolerance in 5+ ball rallies], though there's a great deal of uncertainty with projecting out any 19 or 20 year old player.

On a pure tools level he's at the front of the pack of himself, Jodar, Tien, and Fonseca.

Critically, dude's already got the icy mental. Didn't call trainer or start chirping his box when he was cramping in the third against Fonseca. Just calmly stretched it out during changeovers and came to net even more to shorten points until the cramps dissipated.

Get this Zverev babysh*t out of here.

Mensik is going to make the world a better place. He will performant like never before and takes it in 4 against a desperate and hesitant Zodmug.

I'd love for Mensik to win and finally secure his rightful place as the NextGen #1 (with a rightful amount of love and hype) rather than Fraudseca. But Zverev I would feel awful for if he couldn't secure this title.

Zed should win this. He may not seem like the sharpest tool in the shed sometimes, but I'm sure he'll know how to make this physical, and Mensik has got to feel those matches in his body. It's a lot more tennis than during his Miami run, where he lost only two sets and also had a walkover.

Of course, Mensik can be dangerous and Zverev has been going a bit downhill recently, until this tournament. If Sascha wins the first set, I say he makes the final.

Genuinely no idea how this one goes.

I think they are very similar players, Zed has a better backhand and Jakub has better net play/volleys but they are pretty similar everywhere else, I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of tie break sets. Something that might be a factor is we could see Zed have to face some adversity for the first time at this tournament, he normally has no issue overcoming things like that vs the rest of the tour but having to overcome it for first time at this late stage of the tournament could throw him. I think Jakub taking the first set will be vital if he's to win. I'm going to go Jakub in 4 but a real possibility that it'll go the full 5 and goes either way.

New territory for Zverev. He’s the favourite to win this slam, he knows it, and everyone is talking about it.

How he performs under these unfamiliar conditions will be fascinating. It’s good to be excited about a Zverev match for a change.

Zverev will never have a better chance to win a slam since choking against Thiem in the 2020 US Open final.

I'm rooting for Mensik & picking him to win in 5. If he can reach at least that level he showed against Fonseca, he has a good chance of winning.

I think I’ve seen enough from Jodar already to feel he’s going to win Slams

Fonz is a little tougher to say for sure but I hope so. I would prefer a tour where there are 6-8 guys who are winning Slams.

Alcaraz, Sinner, Musetti, Zverev, Jodar, , Djokovic…might have to add my paisan Cobolli to the list too.

Guess it will be good if Zverev wins it, just so the last guy to beat Nadal at Roland Garros is a Roland Garros champion, even though Nadal was on his last legs (in 2024).
Good to keep it neat historically.

This is Zed's 11th GS semifinal. The next largest number of GS SF by someone who never won a slam was 7 (Berdych). Murray also reached the semis in 10 GS tournaments before his first slam win (2012 USO).

Time to restore the record to Berdych this week?
