2026 Winter Olympics - Milano Cortina

Shiffrin’s Olympic struggles continue, she skied them off the podium.

Americans take Silver to the Swedes in mixed doubles curling just now.

Did Shiffrin choke?

She’s the most decorated alpine skier of all time. I was looking at her recent results. She was on fire. She easily won the latest World Cup in slalom for the 9th time (record) winning seven of eight races and coming in second in the eighth. She often won by large margins.

Her combined event teammate Johnson gave her a lead after the downhill. She came in 15 out of 18 racers! Shiffrin hadn’t finished that low in an individual slalom she finished since 2012. When she was a teen and before her rise to the top of skiing.

The US team wound up 4th, no medal. Sad.

I was just going with the current world's best, easier that way then starting an ATG argument for the 907th time.

This course in the women’s Super G final is just brutal. Has taken out half the field so far and is getting worse. I think Brignone will win the miracle gold.

Us Aussies have gold, unexpected gold!

Australia wins the men’s moguls with Cooper Woods becoming our 7th Olympic gold medallist in winter history.

Sarah Schleper (MEX) closed out Thursday's Alpine skiing with a bang. Wearing the 43rd bib, the last to leave the starting gates, Schleper officially competed in her seventh Winter Games (the most for a female Alpine skier) and became the oldest female Alpine skier ever to participate in a medal event at the Olympics at 46.

But that's not all.

On Monday, Feb. 16, her 18-year-old son Lasse Gaxiola (MEX) will hit the Bormio slopes to race the men's slalom. As soon as his skis touch the snow, Schleper and Gaxiola will be the first mother-son duo to compete in the same Winter Olympic Games.
Pretty cool.

Bolded is crazy.

This is Shiffrin’s fourth Olympic appearance. She owns three Olympic medals, including two gold. She hasn’t earned a medal since she won silver in the combined event at the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

Shiffrin has one more opportunity to medal later this week when she competes in the slalom event.

This pair just won the Gold in Pairs Skating.
Just found out that they have spent the last seven years living in Oakville, Ontario, Canada and train at a skating centre just one block away from our house. My wife and I frequently work out there, and I recall seeing this woman around the place.
Their bio's list them as residents of Oakville, so it looks like we have some famous neighbours now.

They came to Oakville in 2019 when their coach relocated to the Skate Oakville Skating Club just one block from us.
They are listed on their coach's group of students.

Curling. This is not a sport and NBC is trolling everyone showing so much of it. There might be 22 people in the US that play this game. And they're all in Minnesota. It's what you might invent if you don't like hockey or skating but you’re stuck with a frozen pond as your playground. Someone pushes a large puck down the ice and someone else looks like they're trying to furiously polish the ice while someone else screeches at them. NBC paid $3 billion dollars for broadcast rights and this is what they show us.

Please also note that Biathlon is not a sport either. It's something Finnish people do to prepare for a Russian attack. It's a serious matter and shouldn't be played as a sport.

Curling is the ultimate Gentleman's Sport as there are no umpires; players call their own fouls.
Swearing is strictly prohibited.
This foul-mouthed, lying, cheating, obnoxious Canadian curler exemplifies why Canada must be kindly annexed immediately.
:(

Mikaela’s final event up shortly, let’s see what happens this time.

She won gold. And it wasn’t close.

By 1.5 seconds. “While 1.5 seconds may not seem like a long time, it's an eternity in alpine skiing. The combined winning margin between first and second place at the 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022 women's slalom was 1.51 seconds.”

I’m unable to describe how happy I am for Mikaela. My absolute favourite competitor of the whole games, in any sport. And a wonderfully kind, funny and intelligent person as well.

On top of that, she loves tennis too.

I’m hoping for many more years of watching this legend, perhaps with a glorious end at the 2034 Utah games, maybe even lighting the cauldron there.

Nice photo here, no matter if staged or not. As a fun fact, she often takes a nap in the snow between the two runs and has earned the nickname "Sir Naps-a-lot". :-D

Congratulations Miki, you have silenced those who wanted to abandon you after the combined slalom. Those who were "disapponted" by you for not winning the only alpine competition they watch in 4 years. For not winning something "for them". For those who wouldn’t have remembered your name a few weeks from now anyway.

Her boozed-up interview with Tirico afterwards was real funny.

Iga sent her a congratulatory post too.

A lot of sourpusses on the Canadian hockey team when receiving their silver medals.

You need to take into account that America excluded the Russians from the Olympics, so that demotes them back to second place again.

If you exclude all the silly sports the Nordic countries play like skiing into the woods to shoot a woodland creature who posed no threat to anyone then the US is on top of the medal count.
