Draw

Three top 20 miss the tournament: Muchova (surgery), defending champion Mboko (left knee injury), and Paolini (foot injury).
the first of 1.5 weeks WTA 1000 96 draw

1R done with Canadian WC and slam champ Andreescu out.
Nothing of note for R2 matches.

R2 Bencic v Stephens for only the 3rd time in their careers which is crazy given they've both been on tour for well over a decade. Stephens leads the H2H 2-0 with their first match being 11 years ago.

I see that Cirstea reached a career-high rank (#17) after Wimbledon, and is still at it. Quite impressive, considering she is 36 (and about four months). She also had an early breakthrough, so she's been around a long time, admittedly with a lot of fluctuations in form over the years.

Seeds lost 2R recap:
(6) Noskova to McNally
(14) Cirstea to Joint
(18) Chwalińska to Gibson
(21) Bouzkova to Townsend
(22) Krejčiková to Samsonova
(23) Navarro to Korneeva !!
(26) Ostapenko to Zhang retired without winning a game!!
(27) Tauson to Bartunkova
(31) Vekic to Golubic
(32) Siniakova to Rakhimova

The crazy thing is that Venus still playing. She is destroying her legacy.
her legacy is still strong...all this stuff now is at the end of the article on the history of her career...but I admit I don't get it, what does she possibly get out of losing to nobodies in the first round at her age?....can't be any joy, so I guess just keeping some form to be ready to play with Serena...have to think of next year already with both of them...a pretty full schedule at least at slams?...or a joint retirement at the end of this year?

I was practically only surprised that Cirstea lost. Ostapenko at times is like that...

I hope Caty knocks out another recent champion as well. I understand the exclamation marks considering Korneeva - she has been giving more and more "signs of a storm" and people that think Jovic is going to win her just like that might be facing quite a shock!
I used to underrate Rakhimova - not anymore.

Well she has bye and looking good at handling Parks at the moment
Parks is a master at handling herself!

I said that Maya Joint beating a GOAT like Serena at Wimbledon would be good to give her the pep in her step that she needed to get her year back on track and she knocks out Cirstea. This comes after some wins last month including Samsonova. For someone who was on like a 11 match losing streak, she’s restarted her year since that Serena win.

Many of the singles ladies are playing doubles. Many of them are awful, Sakkari and Vekic I'm looking at you. Do their coaches even know how to teach them?

! :)

What happened to Potato?
Very difficult opponent for her. Svitty can effectively make the bashers' blades obtuse and besides she clearly gets especially motivated against Russian and former Russian players. "Potato" was also making far too many UEs to succeed against player like Svitty.

Watching Pegula/Kessler v Errani/Martinez.

All 4 are good dubs players and it's very entertaining. Currently in a match TB, incredible points!

And...Kessler's legs are unbeeleebabole.
