At #17 (for real this time
) we have an epic struggle between Djokovic and Murray that has since been overshadowed for obvious reasons. 4 hours and 50 minutes of brutal rallies, and aggressive ballstriking at its finest. Murray dictated play for the first half of the match, bullying Djokovic around the court and coming in clutch to take the 3rd set in a tiebreak, but Djokovic suddenly kicked into gear in the 4th, finishing it off with 3 blistering return winners. In a drama-filled 5th set, both players began to visibly struggle into the 5th hour of play. Djokovic raised his level to take the early lead, but faltered at the finish line allowing Murray to level it at 5-5. Gathering his strength for one last push, he grabbed the last-minute break of serve to close out the match, 6-3 3-6 6-7(4) 6-1 7-5.
The match had taken a Herculean effort from Djokovic, and the prospect of facing a fresh, confident Nadal in the final seemed all but impossible. But he dug his heels in and fought on, and the rest is history.
Enjoy!
