21st Century Toecutters: The Rise of Oz Tennis!

A win against Young and Tomic moves up to #43 with another 4 months where he has no points to defend, wouldn't be surprised to see him amongst the seeds at Wimbledon within 20-32, and even there he has only a 2nd round to defend.

Could be the year he finally breaks through, just needs to strengthen his movement, which is a big ask.

Bernie should take DY in the QFs, setting up a SF

You cursed him! Sounds like it was a close match though.

Saw Kyrgios having a brief 10-15 minute hit on court this morning. Nothing too strenuous but they're obviously easing him back after a few weeks rest.

Was that at the new Lynham sports centre?

Yeah it was. The new centre is great now. They've just started redoing the old dodgy clay courts in proper Italian clay. Needs a bit more shade but it will be a great place to run tournaments and develop elite players.

I think the plan is still to have various players like Kokki, Gucc etc come through as hitting partners for Nick. Exciting times!

Do you need a membership to hit there? I went at the open day and it was great fun but I haven't returned yet (wasn't sure if the public was allowed in).

It's open to the public but you need a membership or pay per hour. Currently it's $145 for membership till 30/6/15. But once everything is complete it will be $495 per year for an adult. But for that you get access to all outdoor Plexipave hardcourts, Italian clay and synthetic grass. Indoor Plexipave is $20 an hour.

Just cannot watch Matosevic -- though I am now of course :) -- because his style of hit & miss play drives me insane.

Simply put his risk-taking appears unwarranted and unreasonable most times. Heck, sorry, armchair critic at work, it works for him...! (seeign as he just took the match coff coff)

On a sidenote did anyone catch Tomic is now being coached by Tony Roche?

That is the Roche-y that berated him from the sidelines at a David Cup match... whew, sounds like the wounds have healed and any rift bridged, can only be good for the squad, and politically shows the power of TA to bring all into line, including Tomic dad!

Actually, it was more Tomic reacting badly to what was, to be fair, rotten advice at the time. ("put some pressure on him, S&V!")

And I wake up to find Kokki has gone down in a close one to Karlovic 7-6 7-6. He's got the game to keeping more highly ranked opponents honest but this year he'll be looking to convert some of these type of matches to upsets.

It's ridiculous thinking just how many points Tomic can gain until he starts losing them.

If he wins Delray he's #33 in the world with 4 Months til Wimbledon

Of course him Game doesn't hold up that well on Clay unfortunately.

Just 11 months ago in Miami there was doubt if he could compete again after the Nieminen fiasco. Getting to top 30 so soon would have been unfathomable.

The good news: Kokki got Lajovic in the draw, the easiest of the four spots. The bad news: it's tomorrow night so no day off after the long match. Kokki lost to him 1R of qualies last year @IW, 6-3 6-3.

One good run at a slam or a couple of nice runs at MS1000 level...he's only 150 points from there now. Points at Acapulco could put him there with a SF. 2R is probably Dr. Ivo again, after losing 2 TBs this week. Then maybe Dimitrov. Who knows???

Why Kyrgios is not playing in Dubai now? .He has already skipped Rotterdam. Doesn't he want seeding for GS tournaments breaking into top 30?

Kokki is really settling into the grind of the ATP tour. After having time off mid last year to finish school he's really kicked off 2015 well with a series of solid and measured performances. It's just annoying that most matches are on early in the morning our time, how I already miss the AO!

And stringertom I think we'll still have to see about getting you honorary Aussie citizenship. You're enjoying this resurgence more than we are :)

He's slowly getting back on court but hasn't pushed too hard so far. While he really wants a seeding for the Slams, he doesn't want to spend most of 2015 off injured.

My Aussie drinking mates in Earl's Court London gave me honorary Aussie citizenship many pints ago but I will accept a renewal from this band of brothers!

I'll emigrate tomorrow if anyone has a spot for some serious stringing talent...done work for some players with 40+ slam titles between them. A couple of Aussie veterans I met on the Futures tour might vouch for me...Brad Weston (SA) and Adam Kennedy (NSW).

You would have to change your name to stringerbruce

Kokkinakis second serve must be like Errani. He just got broke 4 straight times by DUSAN LAJOVIC. What's the hype on this kid again?
