Also seeing as this is an Aussie thread.
Did anyone notice Peter Luczak playing singles qualies at the Swedish Open. He won his first Qualifying match but lost to 1st qualifying seed Mathieu in straight sets.
It was his first singles match since the 2012 Shanghai masters when he lost to GGL.
According to ATP site his doubles comeback was in Lecco Italy in May 2015 at a future where he won the doubles title partnering Aussie Marc Polmans. His first doubles match since May 2012.
Great stuff! http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/players/peter-luczak/l515/overview

Scathing article on Nick Kyrgios and why he shouldn't play for Australia again. It's a very good read
http://www.news.com.au/sport/tennis...-davis-cup-again/story-fndkzym4-1227448682399

Definitely a possibility! I'm basically writing Australia off against Murray so we will need to win the other 3 which is achievable against James Ward or some other player. Doubles will be the most important. As for the final, Argentina shouldn't be hard. Best player is Leo Mayer who Tomic and Hewitt lead 1-0. Belgium wouldn't be too hard in the final as well, best player is Goffin. Australia's best chance at winning I reckon!

Kyrgios is turning into a sad case. A rare young talent of this generation who still has time but needs to fix a lot of things.

I wish all the best for Hewitt (and Groth).

Oh please! Get off your high horse! Australia should consider themselves lucky our top players putting their hands up to play for their nation. Rafa, Novak, Berdych, Fed and Wawrinka all skipped their ties to look after themselves...guess what? They all lost in the QF's or earlier. Davis Cup is a completely different environment than any Slam and certainly more than your school squad. He will grow and he will learn from this. Tomic and Kyrgios are critical in Davis Cup success moving forward. They do have the potential to team up and win a trophy - putting people who display politically correct, but a hard work ethic on court will not have the skill to do that. Don't forget, that Kyrgios and in particular, Tomic have played pivotal roles in getting Australia back in the World Group. It's been a work in progress for 9 years! I've been to ties where Hewitt and Tomic played in the Oceanic zone to a crowd of 25 people! Funny how people get really interested when Australia starts doing well. As for treating the ball kids like servants - did you see Groth and Hewitt? The kids had no idea what they were doing and all players vented frustrations at their ineptitude.

This poster, No one cares about your school squad, clearly has no idea. How many times Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Wawrinka, Berdych, etc., have represented their countries? They even won the cup for their countries. I don't know why some Aussies take such a big offence when people say facts regarding Tomic or Kyrgios. It it for their benefit to listen to the correct and constructive criticism and fix the problems. In fact, saying they can do no wrong and let them spoil themselves will destroy them a lot quicker.

Majority of those players you named didn't have amazing commitment to the Davis Cup. Tomic played all the 2011, 2012, 2013 Oceanic zones AND world group playoffs. Tomic then wins both his rubbers in the 1R 2015 to ensure a QF spot and they dump him. He does the hard yards and gets dumped for "loud music, finger pointing"? He boasts a 14-2 Davis Cup record despite only being 22 showing that he has played countless matches for his country and that's how they treat him? **** weak.
You want to talk about Fed, Nadal, Stan, Berdych?
Berdych didn't play for Czech Republic this year. They were eliminated 1R despite being 3rd seeds
Federer AND Wawrinka didn't play for Switzerland this year and therefore they lost 1R despite being 2nd seeds and defending champions!
Djokovic played the 1R but skipped the QF this year. Serbia were eliminated 1-4 despite being 4th seeds.
Nadal hasn't played for Spain this year in the Europe zone. They lost 2-3. A nation with so many top players and I think they're being relegated to Europe group II in 2016..

Yeah great commitment

Why do you continue to try and make it seem like atomic shouldn't have been arrested? You were doing the same thing in the other thread. Tomic was being disruptive and was asked to leave and once he refuses he is therefore trespassing and can be arrested. He wasn't arrested for loud music or pointing fingers.

Firstly, loud music was the reason the neighbors complained. The police report explicitly mentioned "loud music" and pointing fingers aggressively. And I don't think Tomic should have been arrested. It would be much easier to escort him out of the building using security guards. I can't for the life of me understand why police needed to be called. There was no violence, no physical altercation. He was "trespassing" at a location he had paid for, i'm not saying that gives him the right to disturb but he didn't break into the hotel room, he was there originally as he was allowed to be. If i'm in a nightclub or even a nice hotel room and i'm being annoying and loud but not violent and i'm forced to leave, i'd be very surprised to see police show up and not just escort me to leave but actually arrest me, require me to pay $2000 bail and all that. I can't understand why several police needed to be called for such a non-issue.

Yes the loud music was the original complaint from the hotel but what got him in trouble was the fact that he refused to leave the hotel when he was asked. That is why the only charges filed were for trespassing and resisting arrest. And yes you are trespassing once he refused to leave. If you are in a nice hotel and refuse to leave when asked then you are breaking the law and can be arrested. I'm not saying whether or not I agree with that but that's how it is.

Can you see how many times those other players you mentioned represented their countries? All in the middle of their busy schedules and hard battles through the rankings near the top as well. Those guys usually play many, many more matches throughout the year than Bernie or Nick, mostly because they usually go deeper into the tournaments they go into. Yet, they have made themselves available so many times for their countries' DC ties. You can never accuse those guys for not committing themselves to DC duties. They also set good examples for the younger players by acting professionally and not partying hard nor getting drunk on the eve of DC. They don't tank during any DC matches either - they give their all for their countries, not half hearted attempts. Amazing you are ready to criticize them for lacking in commitment yet staying fully behind the two problematic young brats.

Well it's not nonsense because Berdych, Fed, Stan, Nadal and Djoko (QF) didn't play this year. And of course those players have more ties and games then Tomic, they're 5-11 years older then him! Despite his age he still boasts 14-2 record. He's 22 has a better record then those players did by his age, and it's not true that they have busier schedules. Tomic has played far more tournaments in 2015. Djoko stands at 18, Fed 19 whilst Tomic stands at 28..
What I said was they weren't playing the Davis Cup year in year out which is shown by the fact that barely any have played it this year. The big players generally are in the world group and only have to play a few matches to win the entire title whilst Tomic played the playoffs and the zones and in the years they had qualified, the main group.
Tomic wasn't getting drunk on the eve of DC, he was kicked out of the team for exposing the lack of respect shown by Tennis Australia, they slashed funding to the Tomic family because of the abusive father, blamed it on Tomic's off court antics despite him keeping a low profile in 2014. Tomic doesn't tank his DC matches, Kyrgios does and I can't stand him, i'm not defending him here. Tomic put in the hard work to secure Australia a spot in the QF and they threw him out. His record shows that he thrives on DC matches and has helped Australia go from Oceanic zones to playoffs all the way to the world group and they treated him poorly. End rant

Tomic and Kyrgios will miss their share of ties for their individual careers many times in the future. It would be nice if they somehow figure it out and come back with the right attitudes.

Wally Masur aka Davis Cup captain opens up about the decision to swap Kyrgios/Kokk for Groth Hewitt, how to beat Great Britain and of course, Tomic.

In regards to Tomic
"Would I like Bernie back? Yes, but there’s going to be conditions and that goes beyond me, it’s really a Tennis Australia board decision.

I don’t think Tennis Australia are willing to compromise what they stand for. They jeopardised their ability to win the Kazakhstan tie by not playing Bernie, so they made a strong stance. But everybody does their penance and Bernie deserves a chance to play Davis Cup again, so if there’s a solution, you try to find it. We want to work with the players and make sure that everyone who represents Australia is in good standing with the federation."

Great call saying they jeopardized the team.

I've had quite a bit to do with TA over time. It's time somebody spoke up, the place is a train wreck. Fact.

In other news, the much maligned Bernie looks to be headed for a final rematch worth Dr Ivo in Bogota. Well, if he beats Michael Berrer in the semis, anyway.

You say Tennis Australia is a train wreck... can you give any examples?

There are so many. Massive inequities in funding and selection, favoritism, nepotism, lots of people employed on the basis of, well, who knows?

A quick look at the people employed at state level by TA all around the country reveals a lot. So many positions that would ideally be filled by experienced coaches and administrators (many of whom apply for these positions) are occupied by clueless infants who have returned from a div II college scholarship in the mid-west with nothing more than a second class baseline game and a third rate degree in Sports Administration. Co-incidentally the two prime requisites for a senior position in TA.

Anyway, Bernie rolls into the final in Bogota

Bernard Tomic says Tennis Australia’s multi-million-dollar investment in him was ‘value for money’

BERNARD Tomic has taken a swipe at critics who claim greed is the driving force behind his standoff with Tennis Australia.

Rumoured to have received millions of dollars in support from TA, Tomic says he single-handedly funds sister Sara’s development.

At odds with TA because of the funding dispute, Tomic says he is the family’s “sole breadwinner”.

“To my detractors, I say the following,” he said. “I am 22 years old. I pay hundreds of thousands of dollars annually in wages, expenses and fees from my tennis earnings.

“Professional tennis requires serious financial expenditure. I am self-funded. I also fund all of the expenses of my entire family, including my sister’s tennis development.

story-fnpp4dl6-1227456954100

“I am the sole breadwinner in the Tomic household.

“The anonymous keyboard warriors who relentlessly knock me don’t know about the responsibilities I accept every day.”

Tomic says there is no point in meeting with Tennis Australia over his comments about funding.

TA cut ties with Tomic’s father, John, in December after he attacked, via email, TA’s director of performance, Pat Rafter.

Friction intensified at Wimbledon last month when Tomic unloaded publicly on Rafter, TA chief executive Craig Tiley and president Steven Healy.

His comments prompted his sacking from the Davis Cup team.

Tomic admitted at Wimbledon he had received significant financial support from TA.

“A lot of money was invested in me, for sure,” he said.

“But whatever they invested in me, they got in return 10, 20-times more. That’s 100 per cent certain.”

Industry sources suggested the total figure could be as much as $4 million.

Tomic’s career earnings in prizemoney recently topped $3 million.

Australia’s highest-ranked male player at No.29, Tomic says he will not meet with TA to discuss a Davis Cup return until he is happy with funding for junior players.

I'm happy for him...took some courage to compartmentalize all the DC and arrest drama so quickly and get back to the winner's circle. Maybe he can build some momentum leading up to the USO. It didn't work out that way in '14 but he will have a better ranking to possibly avoid bad draws (2R loss to Ferrer won't happen with seeding).
Well it was a walkover. ;)
But yeah Tomic doesn't have the best performance at the US Open despite winning it as a junior. Reaching the 3R or 4R would be great!

Hardly a walkover. Case of beating the opponent in front of you. Nobody wins an ATP event that doesn't earn it, ask every other current Australian player, only Hewitt has ever won one and Tomic has three at 22

Hewitt faces a qualifier and if he wins that he'll face 7th seeded Lopez
Groth faces Bellucci and if he wins, Victor Troicki
Duckworth gets a qualifier and then Nishikori if Ducky wins.
