Federer would approach in the stupidest of ways many times. It's like he never learns.
Fed was never a great volleyer, his FH volley was something Roche worked on and didn't improve. And Fed's split step when serving and volleying was never especially good.

Roger was never in the league of the great volleyers like Mac, Stefan, Pete or Boris. The fact Fed is the best volleyer at age 38 in today's game just means everyone else is abysmal at volleying (now incoming 5 posts from Rafa fans claiming he's a superlative volleyer...) 8-B

It's not his volleying skills that they are referring to, but rather his decisions when to approach the net.
Like that 'deer in the headlights' decision at 40-15.

Fed's problem was mostly his approach shots not the volleying itself even if it's not as good as Edberg, Mac and Pete's.

However, someone like Nadal hits with a lot of spin which makes volleying his balls more difficult. Those guys didn't plsy anyone who hit with that much spin.

Something to do with copyrights, I think.
No it was about "self promotion" because he was posting his own work. If someone else posted his vids, like Gazelle did here, that's ok apparently.

I never saw anyone complain about it. It's not like he created a new thread in GPPD every time he made a new video.

Yes, because I remember several posters talking about it and asking the mods to allow him back.

why didn’t they?

I’ve talked to him couple days ago and he said he missed this place.

in a place where people who should get banned don’t get banned, he really deserves mods cutting him some slack.

I don't know tbh. He was a good poster and a great asset to these forums. He is missed for sure.

Many of Fed's approaches were stupid when facing Nadal no doubt. Of course, they worked against literally everybody else, so Fed being stubborn isn't new.

Truth is only Djokovic figured out not to come in at all basically, and that had more to do with him being more comfortable from the baseline anyway. I remember when Djokovic was streaking against Nadal in 2011 (and in most matches since) he rarely ever came to the net, and I used to think to myself that Federer would've come in and got passed there when I was actually watching Djokovic vs Nadal.. There are a lot of instances in Djokodal matches where you can almost see Djokovic resisting the urge to come in with Nadal on the defensive because he knows he'll get passed.

That's where Federer failed, but it is still a stylistic/match up thing anyway. It's also not a coincidence that Federer has completely flipped the rivalry on its head since Nadal got slower.

True, but nevertheless, why would you approach to the Nadal FH? Fed played some senseless tennis against Nadal sometimes.

His BH passing shot is pretty good too. Not as great as the FH, but very good for a BH pass nonetheless so it's not like there's a true weak side. Just relatively weaker.

No doubt Fed was pretty dumb sometimes though I agree.
