2HBH: How to avoid getting jammed at the body?

I'm doing serious progress with my two-hander, at a point where it's on par if not better than my 1-hander. But one thing is still bothering me during matches: those damn balls that seem to bounce and then spin sideways to your body. I never noticed those when I was hitting with one hand, probably because of the increased flexibility you get with only one hand on the racquet, but with the two-hander those are nightmares, as I always end up hitting them outside the sweetspot, producing weak shots.

I know it's probably just footwork, and getting used to spacing yourself better, but is this a particular challenge to the two-hander?

It's mainly just a spacing issue that you need to get used to. It's like hitting a slice backhand from the baseline. If you don't get the spacing right and let the ball get too close to you, then you won't be able to hit a decent slice.

One thing you can do to get around the problem somewhat is to hit from an open stance if the ball is coming in at you. But, you really won't be able to take a long swing at the ball in that situation, so it's only a good option if you're hanging tight on the baseline and hitting the ball on the rise.

1st video, strange idea, keep moving in the direction your momentum carries you. That means, rightie to rightie, duece court, if you serve INTO the body of your opponent, his backhand, he keep moving out to his right, or into the alley, giving you the whole open court to hit into, his backhand side..:shock:
