As an eg. Federer was also injured against djoker in 2020 AO semi. After losing the first set, he knew there was no chance. He played on for another 2 sets.

Just 1-2 years ago there were still a handful that lurked around here that were literal thought police and dictated what people should or should not believe about Djokovic. I have seen my fair share of fan toxicity but I felt the obsessive white knighting from that small group was the worst I've seen from any fanbase. Retirement may have been inevitable given the injury (now officially documented with MRI) but timing and appearances are everything; that was the absolute worst moment to retire. You do not retire when the crowd is chanting Nole and you came within a whisker of winning the tiebreaker. The crowd was already disappointed by the loss in thrilling tiebreaker. You do not immediately punch the already hurting crowd in the gut by retiring seconds after missing an easy volley on set point.

The solution was very simple: Play a few minutes in the second set and gracefully retire. There would have been zero controversy.

One has to wonder if The Djoker bears ill will to Australian fans due to the imprisonment. Hence the sudden and shocking unexpected retirement.

Wrong. Even if he is hurting and thinks he will get blown out by Sinner he does not tank the SF and pass up a chance to make yet another appearance in a Melbourne Final. I wanted to play AO 22 too but didnt comply with the rules to be able to play. I guess I was prevented from playing too.
