3 slams in a row with no Big 3 win?

Since Federer won his first slam at Wimbledon 2003, we've never had 3 slams in a row without a Big 3 winning.

2 was the most and it happened once in Wimbledon (Murray) and USO (Wawrinka) 2016.

Now we have had 2 finals in a row without a Big 3 playing (AO & RG) for the first time. And if Djokovic fails to win Wimbledon (will he even play?) it will be the first time that we get 3 slams in a row without a Big 3 title.

Very, very unlikely he will be able to play Wimbledon - even a minor tear needs at least 4-6 weeks for full recovery and I doubt he'll risk playing through it on a surface where lateral movement is critical.

So yes we will most probably have 3 straight Slams without a Big 3 winner, in a fashion that we kind of expected. Big 3 finally succumbing to age / injuries that force each of them to the sidelines and ultimately out of the game by 40.

If Novak doesn't come back and triumph at the Olympics or the US Open, then by September it will officially be the End Game. The fact it's taking until the end of 2024 to say this is really quite something...

Dude Federer and Nadal are retired and Djokovic is 37 injured and unmotivated AF after breaking every record imaginable. It's a joke that this took so long.

And btw Id still put Djokovic as the Wimbledon favorite if he deals with his injury fast. These mugs apart from Alcaraz last year cant play on grass for crap.

Novak's body finally failed at 37. I think it is a good result. They don't make them like that anymore. More than anything I think it is a result of less training for 2024 because he won everything in 2023. As a result of many good results in 2023 his motivation took a dip which in elite pro sports makes a difference between injury and exquisite achievements. It's all natural and expected at 37 for a father of two.

Complete speculation on your part. When I saw him at Indian Wells, he looked the most muscular I’ve ever seen him and it looked like he had been training a lot in the gym. My wife and I were wondering if that extra muscle was good for him since more muscular tennis players have more lower limb injuries. Sure enough, he gets knee issues within two months. Maybe he shouldn‘t have completely overhauled his team with a new physio, no coach etc. and started building a different body than the one which won him 24 Slams.

When a player loses, his fans automatically make excuses about motivation, personal issues etc. - often the answer is much more prosaic and a problem with the body in a physical sport. He was ill early in the season and now the confession to having knee issues for many weeks might be the missing piece to explain the poor clay season.

Nadal isn't retired. He's gonna play the Olympics 2024 and then he'll decide whether to play in 2025 or not.
