1) Djokovich is a choker.
2) There's something between Djokovich and Sharapova.
3) Someone needs to tell Federer that he doesn't need to "fall down" anymore.

Djokovic played great overall, but just didn't produce on the big points. Federer's serving was incredible when he needed it, fighting off all of those set points. And not only fighting off set points on his own serve, but also on Djoko's serve. You have to give credit to Federer. Part of why Djokovic choked was because of Federer, and him knowing how much he had to do to win...but another part of it was just the pressure. All of those double faults, that has almost nothing to do with Federer, because on the 2nd serve he presumably isn't going for and ace or unreturnable, but a safe shot.

But also, Federer just came up with some remarkable shots when he needed to. Most of the time, Federer answered Djoko's drop-shots, doing nice volleys; but even when he missed or didn't produce a winner, he usually got to them, which has an effect.

1) This was Djoks first slam, he was nervous, choked, lost his composure and never got it back. He started acting like Jankovic in her match against Venus: clapping points, laughing...he went from Djokovic, to choker, to joker. Federer was serious from the begining of the match till the end...calm, cool and collected.

2) Sharapova was clearly there for some publicity. She kept glancing at the screen to see if her face was up there.

3)Fed is a drama queen.

2) There's something between Djokovich and Sharapova.
Mentalcase is correct. Maria was there for Maria, loved the way she looked up to see herself on the big screen. The only thing that might be between Novak and Sharapova is an IMG agent looking for ways to get Maria noticed (or get both of them noticed).

Novak will be on a plane home to his real girlfriend in 24 hours (unless they line up talk shows and stuff for him).

I hear Novak doesn't have a 'real girlfriend'. Also, I thought it was strange that Maria was there, but Jelena and Ana were not. And I have also been wondering where his brother is? and/or who the guy always sitting next to his coach is? unattractive slender red-head guy.?
IMO, Novak played better, just made more mistakes as well, but I wouldn't call him a CHOKER, the first two sets could have EASILY been his, and I think due to bad calls, maybe they were taken away from him, and he didn't challenge.
I would love to see a re-match!
Congratulations to Roger for winning 4th Grand-Slam in a row, and to Nole for an outstanding competition.

yeah novak really played a good game but federer was better in that match. sorry to say that, novak would have won the match If he can holds his first and second set points, but too bad it doesnt happen. federer is the real champion anyway. actually... why was sharapova there? where were ana ivanovic and jankovic and novak's real girlfriend? it seems weird. by the way heres the pic of novak and his gf

1) Sharapova was definitely looking up at the jumbotron a lot. I noticed it especially during the awards ceremony when Novak spoke and the camera focused on his players' box. Not a big fan of Maria. I waited outside Letterman's last year after the Open and when Maria showed up she was the ONLY celebrity that day who did not wave at the line of fines and provide some autographs. In other words, she's a BIATCH.

2) Fed won because he played some key points well and Nole choked on some key points. Watching this match showed me that Novak does not have nearly as much talent as Fed. I think he has a more powerful serve (not necessarily a better one overall), but everything else is below Fed's. His seems to be able to generate a lot of pace on his forehand and can hit some good angles, but still don't think he has enough variety as Fed. So, hope there are many rematches to come.

3) Fed is not your typical male. C'mon everyone knows that. He likes wearing Prada, cries at awards ceremonies and has a fat gf. No idea if he's gay or not, if he was I wouldn't be super surprised bc he does seem to be a bit oversensitive and stuff. But given that Mirka looks pregnant I'd say he's straight. Not sure why I'm even talking about this as this has no bearing on his place in tennis history!

Can you even imagine the slightest bit of what goes through someones mind when winning a slam?

Obviously you don't. I don't know either cause I was and never will be in that position, but at least I can imagine how hard it has to be and what pressure has to be on your shoulders.
Then you don't wonder when seeing a reaction like this after the final point.

Federer falling down and showing emotion after winning slams shows how much respect and love he has for the game, and that he never takes anything for granted. Whether it's your first slam or your 12th, the feeling doesn't become any less magical

...for me, it's not the fact that he fell down, it's the way he did. It was kind of funny/weird.

yeah, he's the youngest finalist since Sampras. he chokes a few points. then doesn't fold like every other player would.

that makes him "a choker"?

absolutely assinine post.

dude is going to win a lot of Slams.

with Pova in his box, you can bet Djoker and his old gf are done

and if they weren't, surely they're done after that. I doubt she'd stand for having Sharapova in his box, no ifs ands or buts about it.

Sweet pictures. I guess I am wrong. I was informed by someone who actually confirms he is friends with Novak, that he says he no longer has a girlfriend. I wonder where she has been? Thanks for the excellent pictures.

Djokovich was in his very first Major Final- too soon to call him a "choker". This seems to be about the worst thing you can say about a player on this board. Also I guess it's pretty easy to belittle Federer around here.

Agassi cried, Roddick cried, Sampras did too. I guess they are all atypical or "not normal" men as well.

Djokovic is a fine talent ,and on the basis of Talent he should owning players like federer every time they play but again he is a choker on the important points especially 7 double faults prove my point.Such matches make tennis look ridiculous and extremely crappy!!

try to think from his position, he is new in grandslam final so its very understandable to be nervous at that very moment. lack of experiences i shall say. but i think he learned alot from this match.

He is most definitely talented, but to the point of owning federer every time they play? That's just not true. At all

The tennis world (and Federer) would have had cardiac arrests if Djokovic had won 2 titles in a row from THE GREAT FEDERER.

Federer won fairly. He played better the big points and his enormous experience counted towards making the right decisions throughout the whole match. He remained calm and collected, never panicked, never let his nerves got the better of him.
Those who say that he didn't played at his best are wrong. He played at his best always in crucial points and that's what really matters.
Those who unwisely blame Djokovic's choking as the main reason he lost the match should acknowledge that by their own logic Federer was the one who succumbed to a choke first, losing his 6th service game in that set by committing two unusual UE with his forehand at advantageous positions having started that service game with a double fault.
If they would see the match again then they would notice for instance that Federer being three set point down during the 12th game of the first set he calmly nailed a forehand winner on a line after a short, nervous reply by Djokovic and then at 30-40 he came with an unbelievably deep slice return of Nole's first serve followed by an equally deep backhand that destabilized his opponent. At Djokovic's fourth set point he executed another difficult deep slice return right on the base line. All these shots were high precision shots and not lucky ones. He simply performed at his best in those crucial points.
Yes it's true that Djokovic made three UE and two double faults in that same game but hey, give the guy a break! He played his first Slam final against a living legend who's the undisputed world No 1 for four straight years and who had participated in 13 Slam finals having won 11 of them.
So overall, it would be fair to say that Djokovic choke a bit and did not manage to control his nerves during crucial stages of the match but Federer's excellent play was IMO the main reason he lost.

If Djokovic is going to beat Federer in a Slam he must learn to control his nerves and emotions and absorb the pressure. His low overall first serve percentage (53%) is a clear indication of that fact. He must learn from Federer's example. He also has to employ smarter tactics e.g as he himself admitted he should learn when to press with winning shots and when to wait for his chances. Both of these abilities can be improved with consistent self criticism and acquired experience. I think technically Federer is still the superior player and Djoker has also to improve on that aspect if he wants to take away eventually from Federer the No 1 spot.

It's hard to call Novak a choke when it was his first GS final coupled with the fact he knew Fed wouldn't roll over and give him a set. Makes you overhit just a bit which he did on several shots. Novak was also copetitive which isn't something you have seen recelty from first time slam finalist on the mens and womens side.

I thought Roger's fall was pretty weak. I think a fist pump like his buddy Tiger would suffice at this point.

One thing I notice about Federer in every post-match interview is that underneath his veneer of cultured urbanity is the smile of a cold-blooded tennis killer. When it comes to tennis, Federer is about as feminine as a Clint Eastwood character from those old spaghetti westerns.
