We hear it all the time from tennis coaches.
(You must develop a solid foundation for developing a solid matchplay game).
And it's true.
Your success as a competitive tennis player starts with your foundation.
With that being the case.
Here are 3 tips to help you get started off on the right track to building yours.
Develop a solid all around matchplay game.
You must develop a consistent solid all around matchplay game, for competing on a high level in your matches.
This means that, you must get to work on the weak parts of your game in practice.
Many players never develop a all round game and they suffer because of it during their careers.
Ask yourself this question.
What is the weakest part of my game?
Then get to work on it in practice and after you master that shot or part, move on the next one and keep doing this until you master all the shots.
Always play within your game.
To give yourself the best chance to win in your matches... always know what you can do out there and what you can't do.
It's like my high school coach used to tell us.
"During matches, is not the time to be practicing or working on new shots".
The time to do that is in practice!!
This is why you have to get the prematch training in and trust in that training and play within your game during the match.
Also, I have found out through research that... 70% of players lose because that don't follow this matchplay rule.
You have to know your opponent's game better than they know it, but you have to also know your own game.
Develop a solid mental game.
Write this down.
"I am not playing tennis, I am playing the mental game".
What's sad about this fact is... 80% of juniors don't even know what game they are really playing in their matches and then they get out there and the minute they face a little pressure, they CHOKE.
As a competitive tennis player, never forget that.
(Tennis competition is all mental and you are only as good as your mental game is on that given day).
So, work on your mental game daily and never take it for granted.
Listen to this.
I heard Novak say years ago.
The minute I realize my mental game was weak and started working on it daily, is the minute my career turn around and I started beating the tops guys!!!
You bet to believe it.
And the same thing will happen for you, just make the committment and stick with it.
Okay, let me know what you think about the tips and to all the haters out there, there is no need to comment on this post, because I'm just going to push the ignore YOU button on YOU.
