The shrieking in this match may be the spark that finally gets the WTA to do something about this. I can imagine it's going to be so loud and ridiculous that clips will be on many sport shows, talk shows, and maybe a semi-viral clip on YouTube. If enough people get annoyed and complain, maybe the WTA will do something.

As noted in jamesblakefan's thread, i'm no fan of Sharapova, but I would prefer she win than Azarenka. Sharapova's age and shoulder will not support her as time moves forward, so this AO could be one of her last, clear chances of winning another major after such a long period of being stopped by others. Her majors path has never been strong (consdering she never displayed repeat dominance talent at any one major, and the years between her titles), so winning just a 4th major certainly will not place her in any legendary class, but it would serve as a nice, late-career boost, and prove the clone (Azarenka) cannot match the original.

I refuse to watch or even have it on.
I tried to suffer through the Clijsters/Azarenka SF...but turned it off when Azarenka had the nerve to complain about some fans talking during the point. If I couldn't make it through one set of that match, there's no way I'd get past the first game of this one.
And using MUTE just doesn't do it. Although most of the commentators are awful and talk just to hear themselves talk, I do like hearing the sound of the ball and the running of the feet. And I even think the occasional grunt at extreme effort also adds to the Sounds of the Game. But what these women do is so unnecessary and obnoxious.

Even if you mute your TV you can still keep track of the grunt levels.
To even further boost interest in women's tennis, the WTA is insisting that ESPN and TC flash graphics on TV about sound/pitch levels in decibels/Hertz.
MIT is providing technical analysts to keep stats on volume/frequency levels to compare Az and Maria's shrieks and grunts during serves, returns, forehands, backhands, drop shots and overheads for winners, neutral points and unforced errors.
Grunt analysis should take enjoyment of grunting to a new level, winning new tennis fans to WTA tennis worldwide!

Azarenka for sure. Maria is only in the final since Kvitova played a terrible 1st and 3rd sets.

I can't stand Azarenka and Sharapova looks like she wants this slam very badly to prove to herself and the world that she can come back after her shoulder surgery which would have derailed 99.9% of most player's careers. I think her sheer mental strength will win out over Azarenka in the end(or at least I sure hope so!)

Aza is only in it too because Kim gave away the 3rd set. IF Aza is mentally tough in the final, i expect her to win. but if she gets nervous in her 1st final, Maria will win.

As for Maria, she was simply more consistent and mentally a wall when it really mattered.

Count me in the group that won't be watching. That screaming by Sharapova and the long guttural groans by Azarenka are just ridiculous. WTA is gutless for not doing anythng abaout it and that is one of the reasons the WTA is in the gutter right now.
