The first thing that you need to know is this…
All tennis competition is mental, and you aren't playing tennis, you are actually playing the mental game!
And.
This is why you are in and out of tennis slumps.
Now.
Here are 3 ways to breakout of it fast.
First.
Harness your energy.
Your energy will control how you deal with pressure in your tennis matches.
So.
Learn how to be aware of what affect it, then emotionally detach from the thought and the outcome.
This takes daily practice.
By the way.
Jim Loehr goes in detail about energy and how to use it to perform better in matches while facing pressure, so read his books on the subject.
Two.
Practice warrior meditation daily.
This is using deep breathing to quiet the mind of all thoughts, and then it's mentally picturing yourself playing your best tennis under pressure.
Another thing.
Revise all mental pictures of your choking in previous matches!
This is very important.
Because.
The more you relive those negative pictures.
The more, you will program your subconscious mind to react in the same way in future matches.
I see many players doing this at the junior level.
Three.
Practice mental training daily.
The only way to get better at playing the mental game is to practice it.
All the time!
Practice it twice as much as you do your tennis training.
You can do that with nonstop self-talk, affirmation and the law of assumption.
I like the last one because you can develop mental toughness much quicker.
This mental law takes that… if you assume to be mentally tough right now, and you HOLD that assumption, no matter what anyone else said or what has happened before in matches
Your internal mental game will eventually become your outer mental realty in your matches.
Why?
You become who you pretend to be!
Listen.
Every time to go through the motions and assume the mental state, you subconsciously imprint it deep inside your mind.
Then.
After 21 days, you have transformed your mental game.
Yes.
Those 3 mental tips, will not only prevent you from getting into a tennis slump, and they will help you stay out of them.
If you don't believe me, try it, okay?
Anyway.
Let me know your thoughts on this post!
