World No. 12 Tommy Haas has hired countryman Alexander Waske as coach, with his sights set on qualifying for a first Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.

“We have set the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals as our mutual objective,” said the German veteran.

What say WTF haters that it is still able to inspire even a 35/36 year old player with multiple career injuries ?

WTF is the toughest event to win. The Great Nadal has not been able to win it in nine slam winning years. Haas should try something easier, like winning RG.

Haas in the best 8? I don't see it, because he already missed out on a big portion of points!

Maybe in doubles?

yeah it's shorthand for ranking. that would be really great, that guy could use a break to the good after all the ridiculous injuries he's dealt with over the years. although it kept some mileage off the body, and he seems to be in great health at the moment.

nice to have another all-courter lurking around in the top tier. i hope he has a great year.

Better to be singing this tune than hinting at retirement, but 2013 was his last year for a shot at the WTF. Then again, I would've said 2009 was his last opportunity if we were discussing this at the start of 2013.

He never said he wanted to win it did he? He just wants to make it there. He's ranked 12 right now, so it's not like it's impossible.

Given his talent, it's feasible. If he can stay injury free and make reach the QF or more at the USO W or FO and make it deep in a few MS-1000 he'll qualify. When you look at the current top 10, the only locks are Djokovic/Nadal/Federer/Murray/Ferrer. Del Potro's futures is questionnable with the wrist. Gasquet/Tsonga are big ??? Berdych as well.

Here's hoping Hasi makes one last run- he needs another shoulder, careful match preparation & a travelling physio/strength guy.

Alex will get him tennis fit, his planning will decide if he can have a good year.

It will be tougher in 2014 after the AO because Stan has showed a lot of the guys that top 10 is do-able & in fact they can all "fail better". he showed what is possible.

Tommy had a great year last year, it will be hard to back-up but if he plays more quick hard courts , IW, Miami & gets some points going, why not?
