363g Blade V8 98

So, as the title says, I'm currently playing with a 363g (not a typo) Blade V8 98 18x20. The reason for the abnormal weight of this racket is that I purchased it from sisters who had been gifted this racket and were selling it to pay for tournament fees. The problem arose after a couple of hitting sessions where I started to experience some forearm pain. I figured the issue was with the grip size, as it was an L2, and I am used to playing with an L3 grip. I decided to add a heat shrink wrap and bring it to 4 3/8, adding ~15g to the handle. But I wasn't finished beefing this bad boy. As I'm accustomed to playing with a leather cushion, I decided to replace the original cushion with a leather one, which added another 15-20g of weight to the handle. So there it was, a fully comfortable Blade 98 that weighed 357g strung.

Despite all the customization, something was still missing, especially on my backhand (2HBH). I was having a lot of trouble creating depth and being consistent with my backhand, whereas my forehand was exploding off the racket with a lot of control and precision. In order to address the lack of power and plow-through in my backhand, I experimented with lead tape on the head and finally found the sweet spot of 6g at 3 and 9 o'clock.

All things considered, this is now a 363g beast of a racket that I adore playing with. However, it's extremely demanding and requires excellent footwork at all times, often leaving your arms exhausted after +2h of practice.

The reason why I'm reaching out to you is for suggestions on rackets that I could try to further complement my playstyle. I have a constant feeling that this racket may be a lot heavier than what I need, potentially jeopardizing my results in matches. Do you have any suggestions on rackets that I could demo? (Note: I'm not in the US/EUR, so my range of models to demo is limited).

Specs:

  • Weight: 363g
  • Balance: 31.5cm
  • SW: 340 kg/cm^2
  • String: Solinco Confidential @ 56lbs
Some context on what racket I was using before, my play style, and level:

Prior to this, I was using a 2020 Ezone 100 with a leather grip and overgrip. I decided to switch to the Blade 18x20 as I felt the Ezone was too powerful, and most of the errors I was making were due to a lack of control, not power. I'm able to generate a good amount of power and spin. Currently, I'm rated 4.5 - low 5.0 NTRP, but bear in mind that I'm on the smaller side (5'7'') with above-average muscle mass. I like to play aggressively from the baseline with a lot of depth and spin, and I typically approach the net to finish a point. My favorite serves are kick and slice, although I can hit a decently fast (for my height) flat serve.

That is a beast of a stick. I would say the RF97, Percept 97D and any of the Head pro models (18x20).

Thank you for the suggestions! How does the RF97 compare to the P97D? Also, may I ask why not the PS97v14 instead of the RF97?
The PS97 is lighter than the RF97. To me the sweet spot is a little better on the P97D, but I prefer the feel of the RF97. Plus flat serves with the RF97 is a dream (kick is ok but is slightly P97D is better).

Your final spec seems to have 172 recoil weight and ~21 mgr/I. You probably prefer the high mgr/I that's what makes this racquet feel so good but recoil weight seems a bit high. Also high swingweight will make you tired even though you reduce the static weight.

You need to start customisation with the lowest static but highest sw and mgr/I to match the specs.

Vcore 98 tour seems like the best bet. Yonex has the best quality control btw and you might get a racquet with all over specs with other companies.

With a customisation as below you can get to high mgr/I and similar sw but with a lower recoil weight.

If you want to use a leather grip it would look like this.

However, if this racquet makes you tired I believe a lower static with the same swingweight can also make you tired. In my experience a 330 g racquet with 340 sw was more tiring to me than a 340 g racquet with 335 sw.
You might want to consider lowering the swingweight to 335 or 330.
You can use the calcultor I made if you want to fiddle with your desired specs and how to customise your racquet.

That’s basically my exact spec of my v8s. High 350 to low 360g strung. I added a leather grip, 7 gram lead weight to the butt cap and another 15 grams of tungsten putty.

Despite the high static weight the balance was very whippy which suits my style.

These specs are similar to Rublev. BWEH!!!

Anyway you like this racquet because of the specs, not the racquet. Giving you advice on different racquets doesn't mean a lot.

Thank you very much for the extremely detailed explanation. I'm definetely considering lowering the swing weight, which is one of the reasons why i'm considering switching racquets, as I think that the Blade 98 may work well only with the specific specs

That may be the only thing that I can say i'm similar to Rublev when in the court - for better or worse

Addressing the topic on why a new racquet, i feel like i would benefit a little more "put-away" power. I do have very decent point construction skills, but i struggle to win some points when the ball is inside the service box. I have to put way too much spin at the ball to clear the net, which ends up forcing me to reduce a lot of the power on the shot

It doesn't feel as heavy as it weighs, but it felt too whippy for my backhand. I see that you switched to the V9s, correct? Which do you prefer? Did you find the V9 to perform better at anything specifically?

V9 are definitely stiffer but otherwise similar. I found my v9 needed less weight in the handle to get to my desired balance point so the overall static weights are lower. The v8 feel more plush and muted.
