If Federer and Connors are both fit at 39 then Federer would belt him 6-4, 6-2, 6-3. .. there is no doubt about it ... Do you know why ?

Because if you assumed a 39 yr old connors to beat or take federer to 5 sets and make the match competitive then it means throughout their careers they were competitive for almost 20 years, so you are assuming that connnors-federer would have equal slams as well in their careers for them to be same age and have a similar H2H ....

Now realistically due to the difference in talent Federer would be having a H2H to connors like what he has with Hewitt ... 18-9 .... So to expect Hewitt to beat Federer later on in his career would be like Hewitt's last win over Roger which came in 2013-2014 period when Federer was somewhat injured and was far from his normal self ..... only then will a same aged guy have a shot,

Or else a defeat in 3 or maybe 4 sets ... .

^^^ This I am assuming if they grewup together, if you transport this Federer magically to 1991 then he would maybe double bagel Connors .... LOL.....

Anyone who uses crutch era thing argument I look down upon.

Fed at 38 got to the 2019 QF (as did Connors at age 37).

At age 39, Jimbo got to the USO SFs with multiple 2 sets down comebacks and was in the zone.

Sadly for this thread skipped 2020 at same age of 39 (they are one month apart so I'm counting it the same, except one has b-day before the tournament and one during it). Though he did reach the AO SF in 2020.

This indicates that he was playing around the same level as Jimbo, minus the crutch era argument.

If Federer goes further in this year's USO at age 40, then I'd have to change my vote.

You are assuming that I'm assuming things I'm not. I clearly said at the USO Grandpa Federer verses a red-hot Connors playing his last best tennis. I'm not talking about all time career slam counts or God mode Federer.

Even 39 yr old Federer who is full fit and challenging djokovic in the final (assuming he reaches another) will crush Connors.

No disrespect meant to Connors, he was a great man, a bonafide legend, I respect him a lot more than Borg because he fought on till the beginning of the 90s unlike Borg who was younger and ran away from Mcenroe and the next generation hunters who were coming up.

Never mind that Jimbo was 1/2 the player Fed was, whether in their peaks or in their declining years.

It's hilarious how all the Djoker fans swarm in here when none of them ever saw Jimmy Connors actually play. But they predictably vote for Connors since it's impossible to pull the lever for Fed on anything, unless it's "most overrated," or "biggest choker." 8-B
Sorry to disappoint but I am a tad older than what you may think and please refrain from using words like - ALL Djok fans. Generalisation isn't the smartest of moves if you are catching me drift. Fedr at 40 with his bad knee or Jimbo at the same age? Jimbo all day long. If you are going to argue over a speculation that will never happen, HUSTON! We have a problem :)

Why will Federer play Jimmy with a bad knee ?
Federer will play Jimmy when Fed is full fit and he will bulldoze Jimmy in 3-4 sets.

Hello! Anybody home! The subject here is Jimbo vs Fedr at the age of 39.

What was Jimbo's playing condition at that age?
What was/is Fedr's playing condition at the same age?

Oh, and Fedr WILL NEVER play Jimbo.

people are joking when they say connors would win right?
If that was the case how ANYONE EVER can say that Laver is the GOAT? Laver, Jim and many other ATGs would be FLOGGED by top 50 guys every time had they ever played against them. You cannot have it both ways or does it apply only to Fedr? :)

Federer is the GOAT, not Laver.

Federer and Nadal are the Alpha and Omega of Tennis, the ultimate ceilings of Tennis, the matter and anti matter, the yin yang, the champions of the fastest and the slowest courts.
Novak, Sampras and Borg are Betas
Connors, Andre, Lendl and others are level 3

I was just joking there, do not consider the "beta" comments or alpha-omega comments seriously.

In reality I respect Pete a lot, I just meant that before 03 Pete and Borg were the absolute GOATs of Tennis in a post Laver era, now the bar has been raised in the last 2 decades with the Big 3 (maybe an additional tier has been added with Fedal there).

Thats it, rest of the alpha, beta, gama, omega is all trolling/fanboy comments at best.

If anyone watched against Evans and then Basilashvilli, you could clearly see that he'd beat Connors rather handily. This is actually a silly question. As great as Connors was, Fed would eat him up.
