3D Print XL Conversion Results

Wanted to share in case anyone else was inspired by the thought of extending racquet lengths via 3D printing (now that it's a little more economical).

Used one of my abnormal K-Blade 98 (+7-8 grams). It's been previously heat sleeved to an L3. Measured unstrung/no grip using the Briffidi suite.

Before/After
Static Weight: 302g -> 304g
Swingweight: 305 -> 327
Balance: 3HL -> 1HH

Dumb me underestimated 3D printing tolerance stack, so everything is a press fit. I physically can't take it apart unless i destroy the part it seems.

Good news after designing this, if I wanted to revert back to a standard length, I can model and print a shorter version and keep it the same length.
Bad news is, I have no idea how long it will last given this is a 20% infill (ie: not totally solid).

Maybe will post back with durability test later? Or does someone else have experience here?

Maybe this thread will help you?

You have to draw the recess for the hairpin a little larger, as the PLA shrinks a little when it hardens.
Why don't you print the end of the handle at the same time?
For durability reasons, I would print the piece horizontally.

I was actually hoping you'd comment cause the idea was taken from your posts. Thanks for the advice and inspiration in advance,

100% agree on the offset for the hairpin. Although admittedly so far I'm pretty satisfied with how locked it it feels despite my best efforts to remove (I'll know soon enough when it decides to eject out of my hand in the middle of a swing).
Agreed with the horizontal print for longevity reasons.

The reason i didn't make an "all in one" extension/butt cap was more for hiding internal modifications from the outside, but increase function through retrofit (eg: increasing trapdoor cavity). But in reality I wanted to see what a printed part felt like.

I have a few other idea features for a next iteration, but this will be all in vain if I think playing with an XL frame is not beneficial hah

If you can draw the recess for the logo well, the racquet will look no different than before.

Have fun trying!
I wish someone would sell something like that. I play a 4 1/4 head racket and I’m thinking of getting 4 1/8 head pallets then I’d just print an entire extended sleeve that goes over it.
