4.5 Pusher vs 4.5 Basher @ USTA National 40s Hardcourts in La Jolla Cali

Agreed. This is pretty unwatchable because of the lack of any editing. Movie Maker comes loaded free on Windows and is super intuitive to use. Might be a bit tedious to do, but so is trying to watch this video in the current format.
The lack of sound doesn't help either. I couldn't get through more than a couple of minutes.

I don't understand why the title says 4.5 versus 4.5 and the description states they were both computer 5.0s. Which one is it?

Regardless, 4.5 seems reasonable. I understand the 5.0 computer rating if these players are used to playing against other people in their age bracket. I don't think these guys would be considered open 5.0 level players. Posters don't realize how bad us amateur players look...there really is no comparison with these players and open level semi-pro and pro players (obviously).

Laver would have double-bageled them both.

5.0 player here. Morons thinking these guys are less than a 4.0 Im guessing they think their own farts smell like roses. You have no idea, or you're just jealous.

Get the camera out and look at your own game...everyone is used to watching the pros on tv, its always shocking to see yourself playing.

This is some nice, controlled hitting.
Yes - there's no way that these guys are lower than 4.5. Watching your own video is a definite reality check.

I have seen a 5.5 USTA-rated player hitting around and playing a match. His shots were not spectacular, nor did it look pretty like the Pro's strokes. 'Looks very beatable'. Yeah, sure ... until you get on the other side of the net playing him. Then it becomes obvious that the guy's game is way up there. His shots were coming back faaaast, skidding and deep. Lightning anticipation, accurate placements, etc.

It is VERY easy to underestimate someone else's game just by watching a video or seeing them hit.

Thanks for sharing Gut - lots of good ball placements.

yet here you are arguing something you say/think is a waste of time/boring

I almost never venture in a thread that does not interest me

where is the video of your awesome game?
The topic interests me, but the video was disappointing, that's all. Didn't live up to the title for me.

(BTW... I've never, not once, said I'm a better player than anyone on the forum, in a video, or otherwise, so stop asking me to post a video every time I disagree with you.)

A strange discussion. I think the vast majority of tennis fans would find the video boring. The points are short and error-ridden, the level of play of play is that of amateurs, there's no sound and apparently long sections of the video feature nothing happening. I'm not sure why some are defending the video as though it's a work of art.

That said, the level of play is what it is. These guys are 4.5-5.0 players (still unclear based on the videos confusing descriptions) .

in todays big pharma ADD no patients world, people need a vid to be streamline edited to keep the attention.

Nothing to get defensive about. I wouldn't expect people to find an unedited 2 hour video of me engaging. Heck, I"d probably have to edit 2 hrs of playing into 3 minutes for it to be something I'd consider somewhat entertaining for other viewers.

hehehe, good thread:) We have no rating system where I live, but I was convinced I was at least a 5, maybe 5.5......until I recorded myself, AND had a look at some other videos people have posted in the 'Tips & Instruction' section.

Good lord, was I wrong! I hang my head in shame. I wish I never recorded it.....anyway, motivation to improve:)

Both players in the video are better than me, but just because they don't have flashy styles, doesn't mean they're any less effective;)

What's your connection to the video? Did you film it? Are you one of the players? I agree that the players are who they say they are, but if you added a poll and asked whether or not the video is entertaining all things considered (camerawork, sound, length and yes, level of play, etc.), I bet that 75% of posters would say no.

I agree the video sucks

the players suck, and need a few lessons

4.0 at best

The thing most people don't see is the player (Gut) in the high socks can retrieve most any ball hit to him, redirect it or come to the net. He can serve hard, return serve, volley and hit an overhead..This is very disruptive to a baseliner who has no plan B..You also cannot measure Gut's "thinking process" by watching a video..He is thinking on a different level and has plan A,B,and C and can interchange them on a dime. In his mind and athletically he is a 4.5-5-0..Can he be beat? Sure, but he doesn't beat himself or lose because his forehand was off that day..

thank you for flattering words... but lets be real... I'm actually a mid level 4.0 that just gets lucky to win matches.

I have no problem at all believing the players are 4.5-5.0 (again, though, which one is it? the video says both ratings...).

The video itself is subpar. There's not even any sound! How can you deny that?

Notice how this video is in HD, has sound and is edited so we only see the points, as opposed to people walking around picking up tennis balls.

None of that is to say that the video you posted isn't interesting in certain ways, but it's not a work of art ha!

The video was taken by competitive edge ... every court at the national event was recorded, and you could buy the match after you came off the court for 40 bucks. No sound. The cameras were at the top of the high fences

thanks for your valuable input on how the video could be obviously better

Thank you for the information. I can certainly see how this service might be valuable to the guys who played in the match.

They also had a MXD 40, FATHER-SON, GRANDFATHER-GRANDSON national hard court event included .

Can you imagine how cool it would be to get a video to reply of father /son or grandfather / grandson ?

It was wonderful to watch some of these matches

This match is a good example of a crafty pusher in the mens 40s vs a ball basher

This is usually what happens when these styles match up at the 4.5 level and above.

Every match is different, and many factors are at play.

Sorry if this has been answered before, but which one is the pusher and which one is the ball basher (first video)?
