Agreed. I'm a big fan of the trilogy but ME2 definitely stands out the most. ME3 could have been close or as good if it wasn't for the ending. I hope BioWare doesn't let us down with Andromeda.Mass Effect 2 - Best Story in the series, with massive gameplay improvements on the first game and a list of great characters. The game was perfect in almost every detail.
Age of Empires II
Commandos series
Metroidvania games
I remember those days.
Still play Dota once in a blue moon on Warcraft III![]()
1) Halo Franchise (I'm just going to group them together)
2)Assassins Creed II
3)Contra
4)Batman: Arkham City
5)Portal 2
Honorable Mention: Forza series, Super Punch Out, Star Fox 64
After remembering a few games, going to edit
1)Halo Franchise
2)Ninja Gaiden Black
3)Contra
4)Batman: Arkham City
5)Portal 2
Mega Man X just misses out
I still play all of them from time to time![]()
I got Starcraft 2 a few years ago as a gift, and I still haven't even installed it on my computer.![]()
Please tell me Symphony of the Night is in there....
Here's some other ones that I would put at like 9-14 in no particular order
Dead Space 2
Uncharted 2
Final Fantasy 6
Metal Gear Solid 1 or 3
Zelda Link To The Past
The Ripper is ****ing awesome!I have played dead space 2 several times and using the hovering razor blades and harpoon never gets old lol
The Ripper is ****ing awesome!
Galaga is pretty cool. Do you play it in MAME?I still play this game 36 years later! 36!!!!!!

Yeah not as good as the 2nd one, but it's still a good time. Really liked the isolated atmosphere of the Nostromo. The harpoon also can electricity
DS1 was not fun as the constant backtracking was a chore
Age of Empires II
Commandos series

Very nice. He must have been obviously inspired by Elevator Action. Your professor's game is from the golden age of the non-PC personal computer. They released the same game in different platforms like Commodore 64, Spectrum, and Amstrad. I used to have an Amstrad CPC 6128 myself. Great machine, and very capable game-wise!I'm kind of familiar with the elevator game. One of my professors programmed a very similar game back in 80's.

And @-NN- I don't recall it as a true metroidvania game, but you could try the turrican series for something similar to Metroid.
1) Not one mention of Street Fighter - that game was groundbreaking!
2) Landstalker (absolutely amazing game, yes I had a Sega).
3) Might and Magic
4) Far Cry 3
So many to list it's difficult to pick my top 4.. But my favourite games/game series of all time so far in no particular order:
- Mass Effect series (can't wait for Andromeda)
- Assassins Creed 2
- God of War series
- Star Wars KotOR 1 and 2
- Halo 1, 2 and 3
- Warcraft 3: RoC and TFT
- Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge
- Ragnarok Online
Good on you, brilliant two games.
Any recommendations?
The first is one of the best I've ever played and really should be on the list, but things like this change by the day. If it was top 10 or even top 5 then it would be there. I don't rate 2 that highly, although I'm still annoyed that we didn't get part 3. Instead, we got some star wars mmo game that I have never played.

I've been doing some extensive research on recent years release of Metroidvania/2D platform titles and bought a bunch during the holiday season on Steam.
Axiom Verge (Metroidvania Contra)
Rogue Legacy (a hard rogue-lite)
Salt and Sanctuary (2D Dark Souls)
Guacamelee (very satisfying combat system, almost streetfighter-like, platforming gets challenging in later game)
Ori and the blind forest (nice modern looking, takes some platforming skills)
Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight (Beautifully animated graphics and rich setting, action gameplay)
Cave Story+ (pixel, suspicious controller support)
La Mulana (HARD)
Steamworld Dig (Western-themed mining adventure)
Mark of the Ninja (sealth/action 2D platformer, not a Metroidvania, highly recommended)
Shovel Knight (NES-inspired linear platformer)
Spelunky (rogue-lite, hard)
Games that stand out for me are:
-Zelda Ocarina of Time
-Marathon series
-Monkey Island 1 and 2
-Heroes of Might and Magic 3
-Hearthstone
Just watched a guy on Youtube win the entire Mike Tyson's Punch out from start to finish in 22 minutes !!!
He TKO tyson in about 2 min and 10 seconds .
He is the GOAT
He actually used the crazy first 90 min to kill Tyson and I also used it as survival time.
I only really liked sports and racing games with GTA series as an exception and maybe the odd shooter.
My favorite game ever was Rage Racer for PS1. Anyone heard of that? Insanely addictive with arcade and unrealistic style game play but just so fun.
Good game. Ever play Diddy Kong Racing or series like Forza or Gran Turismo? Some of the Need For Speed games are good.
Best racer: Road Rash 2 for the Genesis.

MIsland 3 is great too. Played it?
Nice!!!!
Go play it.
There's a kotor 2 restored content mod which puts content back in that Obsidian removed due to it being unfinished. Makes the ending not as abrupt. Haven't played the MMO but heard a lot of bad things about it.
I can't believe I forgot to put Kotor 1 on my list, incredible game. I finally beat the second one on Steam, it's still pretty good, but it's not the first one. I have no idea how there hasn't been a third one, those games were incredibly well received.
Anyone ever play Kingdoms of Amalur by any chance?
