So it's been revealed by Barbara Schett, presenting from the actual Aus Open grounds, to address the coaching accusation Wayne McEwan was called to sit below Tsitsipas's players box and they also had a Greek peaking referee standing in the tunnel entrance which was alongside the players box. Schett said the coaching violation warning was given after the Greek speaking referee heard something in Greek from Apostolos.

I'm getting to appreciate his game more and more but yeah, his character is more entertaining than his tennis. He's good for the game either way.

He's demonstrating that he can actually attack and produce incisively off either wing... makes him seem less funky when he's able to demonstrate an ability to create and sustain attack. We know his defence is very legit, and he just plays smart and you can actually see that in real-time in his game. He's his own man, has his own style. I can certainly appreciate it, even though in and of itself it's not the most aesthetically pleasing to view.

Could Meds and up and comers stop Djokodal getting 21 GS?
Something tells me Musetti, Alcaraz, Seb Baez, Rudd, and Schartzman
will make sure to be dangerous after exiting early at the AO.
Sebaez, Musetti and Alcaraz might step up to the bit time this year?

Yeah, but it's not the same really. Tsitsipas has a pathetic slice. He needs to weaponise that shot if he wants to sort out this matchup. He has everything else, he has the finishing shot, but he lacks an effective slice to control these rallies. And that's hurting him.

his return of serve is too bad tu hurt medvedev. he just has a slow reaction time, it seems. and you cant fix that.

Not a bad score to wake up to. Hope ESPN replays a good portion of the match later today. They didn’t show any of the Med-FAA quarter as far as I could see. Never got to see more than the 8-minute highlight reel of that one.

Even though I selfishly wanted Medvedev to win because I think he'll have a better chance in the final, part of me wishes Tsitsipas would've won for the good of the game long-term. I don't like how one-sided the Med/Tsits rivalry is becoming. He came into this match in great form while Med was very questionable and still only took 1 set.

At least Stepanoe reaches the later stages of majors to meet him. I'm disappointed we have yet to get a Med-Zed SF or F at a major. In some fairness, Medvedev failed to show up at the '20 USO, so that one was his fault.

Also, I say this with little certainty, but I think Medvedev will start showing up more on clay and grass, giving them more opportunities to meet. Certainly Stef will have a major advantage on clay.

There is a strong possiblity that the Medsipas rivalry will be heavily surface-dependent: Med dominating on hard and Tsits prevailing on clay. I'm not sure about grass though (both have been quite subpar there so far).

This rivalry could really turn at any point though.
Still a possibility that Tsitsipas develops a return game and strings everything together. He's got a more naturally offensive game and this might eventually translate into some big wins.
H2H stands at 7-2 in favour of Medvedev. Whilst not completely analogous, Hewitt led Federer 7-2 at one point before the Swiss won 16 of the next 18 meetings.

I certainly wouldn't be surprised, since I expect Tsitsipas to age much better than Medvedev will. I think we're seeing Med's peak right now but Tsitsipas has more room to improve and stay at the top.

Tstsipas is not improving. He's flatlined in a weakest field ever.

He just made his first slam final last year which was a nice improvement. And while coming back from an elbow injury that was obviously bothering him last year already he immediately made the semis of Australia. Not too bad.
I like how reaching Djokovic and losing to him is now considered an improvement for the young players. If next time they will meet in a 1/4 final then that is when Tsitsipas's run will end. (at best case)

Game wise not improving. Similar level to the RG match. Starts off strong then gives up.

right.
It feels like he has a mental block in the biggest matches.
It’s not improving or changing.
It’s a deep rooted problem.
I suspect it has to do with finding a new coach and separate from his father.

He deserves what he puts in and what he channels
atm he channels young Fed, pure arrogance and
win at all costs and that deserves no sympathy.

Whose talking about feelings and sympathy?

I don't even consider myself a Tsitsipas fan, I just think it would be better for the sport if the rivalry was more even.
