How filthy was that

- Alain Bernard - French World Record holder of 100m Freestyle.. before the 4 man relay...The Americans? We're going to smash them. That's what we came here for
I still like Sydney 2000 the best.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6L_jE9rAZAI
No way. The relay last night was by far, the best and most exciting in terms of pure competition and excitement. I rarely jump out of my seat and start yelling at the TV, and never for swimming but last night I think I scared some of the stray cats outside. It was an amazing comeback and breathtaking finish (.08 second margin) and I honestly don't think we'll see another like it in fifty years.
LOL! I was doing the same thing! Screaming my lungs out the last 20 meters of Lezak's swim....
The only time I was more excited was during the first women's marathon when Joan Benoit (now *******on) won the race over Ingrid Kristiansen, Waitz and Welch. And, remember the Swiss runner all but collapsing near the finish? Bloody hell.... (I've seen that in Ironman many times....)

How filthy was that![]()
It was very filthy! I was lucky enough to see it live, 6 rows up the stands!! It was one of the most exciting, invigorating, spectacular, awesome events I have ever seen in person!! When the jumbotron showed that US had taken #1, the crowd went crazy! Definitely a moment I will never forget!

Jason - THAT is so awesome! Any other exciting details? How long are you there? Any more swim finals? Tennis? Photos?![]()
My time here in Beijing (first time) has been fantastic! Unfortunately, no more swimming events (I think the one I watched today will last me a lifetime!), but 2 nights ago, I saw Beach Volleyball and tomorrow, I will go watch USA take on Angola in mens basketball. I will be flying out of here on the 14th. Between events and seeing all the tourist places like the Great Wall, Forbidden City, Ming Tombs, etc, I have not had anytime to play tennis.I am definetly itching to play when I get back after not picking up a stick in 2 weeks!

Anyway, i learned something interesting from a swimming expert today: if you look closely, you can see that the French swimmer made a mistake and swam VERY close to the american side. Lezak used his "wave" to get to him, that's part of the reason he was so fast. I'm not saying he didn't swim a wicked race here, it's just an interesting fact. Look at the vid, Bernard really is close to the american side.
yes, swimming behind someone's wave or "Drafting" will make it easier to go faster/swim but the lane lines take off a considerable amount of wave.
It's still hard to believe world records are broken anually. You'd be a fool to say the new suits/technology have a null effect. It almost makes it unfair to compare today's times and to times from years ago thus making a world record seem moot.
Who is to say what the best truly is. They were all unique. The fact that Hall claimed they would smash the Aussies like guitars in their own pool set the stage for a great rivalry. Klim also setting the world record for the 100m freestyle, Thorpe anchoring in his debute, and the team breaking the WR. Then you have the team playing the air guitars looking at the Americans. Awesome! I felt like I could relate to that generation a little more, too.No way. The relay last night was by far, the best and most exciting in terms of pure competition and excitement. Yes, it was a great race, but for me and many other West Coasters, it was somewhat ruined by already knowing the result. So NBC decides to show it delayed here to maximize ratings, fine, but stop putting the word LIVE up in the corner of all of the broadcasts. I'm going to file a complaint with the FCC over their BS before these 16 days are up. grumblegrumblegrumble
is this business travel or purely fun? are you getting to watch any tennis while you are there?
