5.5 player looking for the ideal string setup of my prince 93p

Hi guys,

I'm a dutch former teaching pro looking for the ideal string setup op my prince 93p 14x18. My style of play is an allcourt game with very high ball speeds. I control the ball with a combination of launch angle and spin. My baseline strokes have a rather flat trajectory, while still having a decent amount of rpm's on it. I go for big shots since while my shotmaking is excellent, i think i would lose to every member here in a best of 5 scenario cause of poor mentality combined with a lack of endurance.
I've switched to the 93p cause of shoulder issues caused by 40+ hours on court each week (playing and teaching). I've tried some string combo's and haven't found the sweetspot yet. Maybe you guys can get me in the right direction since there is so much to choose from.

What i look for in my strings:
1. The ability to control the depth of my shots with spin.
2. Being able to ''feel'' the ball on the stringbed for placement.
3. Work while not strung super tight (the excessive jarring of some strings can put stress on my shoulder while serving)

Power is completely irrelevant since i can produce that on my own.

What have i been using until now:

- multiple multi's in a full bed -Sensation/Velocity/Xcel etc. (didn't like it, no control)
- Hybrid: confidential 1.15/wilson sensation 1.30 41/44 (couldn't hit a single ball in, balls flew on me, no spin)
- Fullbed: Signum pro tornado 1.25 44/41 (some grip, some control, not much controlled feel)
- Fullbed: Rpm Power 1.25 41/41 (way to much power, spin lacking)

The strings i have in mind:

- Confidential
- Tour Bite
- Hyper G
- Big Hitter Silver 7 Tour
- Cyclone

<Don't appeal to me but maybe u can convince me otherwise>
- Alu Power (Rough)
- 4G

Hope one of you can set me off in the right direction, it would be appreciated if you could elaborate about the details and the why's.

Those are all great choices. I would start around 46-48 pounds with each and see whether you want more control or more comfort and spin. I think your problem with those strings you already tried was you just string them too lose your first go. If you wanna try them again go 46-48.

Almost no one here is a 5.5 or plays with a 93 sq inch racquet anymore and you likely have to figure out on your own what works for your game. In my opinion, it sounds like you should play with a 16 gauge fullbed poly stringjob strung around 45 lbs. HyperG soft, HyperG, Cyclone Tour, ALU Power are some of my favorite polys.

I'm very far from a 5.5 , but I've tried and strung some of those solinco strings. Hyper-G or Confidential may possibly be close to what you're looking for. (there's also tourbite - diamond rough) You could also try Gamma Livewire Professional if you hadn't done so already.

Thanks for the confirmation that i’m on the right track.
While some of you may not be 5.5 or close to it, you’re knowledge of strings far exceeds mine. I’m hoping someone who knows what the higher end player looks for in a stringbed can shine a light on the choices i should make in the near future.
I really appreciate everyone’s input, especially of experienced stringers!

I have used poly since i was 16. 99% of the time poly’s are fine. The jarring of some poly’s + high stiffness of some rackets + the amount of balls hit with high force took a toll on me.
Part of the reason i’ve switched to the 93p. Flexibel+ HL works well for my game.
Just looking to complete it with a good poly or gut/poly hybrid!

I am currently enjoying a 18x20 93P strung with Mayami Tour Hex 1.23mm @ 22kg mains 21kg crosses. I have found Tour Hex to offer great control and long predictable playability, I would class it as a lower powered string. Having the 14x18 you might want to try a thicker gauge or stringing a bit tighter to keep the launch angle under control. Another great long lasting, lower powered predictable poly is Tier One Black Knight, I have enjoyed it in many different frames but am yet to try it in the 93P.

I played for a year with the 93P 14x18 - I am a good 4.5 with an aggressive game.

Most of it, I played with Hyper G 16, which complemented the spin friendly nature of the frame pretty well, and didn't cause any arm pain. But sometimes Hyper G can be a bit erratic and the ball would shoot off unexpectedly in such an open pattern. I didn't try it in this particular frame, but I think Confidential would suit it pretty well, as it still has great spin potential, but a more consistent response.

4G Soft would be another one to try, for consistency and tension maintenance, if you can afford it. Perhaps not as much spin as Hyper G / Confidential due to being a round string, but better durability, and not as hard on the arm as regular 4G.

You should consider 4 factors:
- string tensions,
- string gauge,
- string type and
- string brand.

Point nr. 1: As someone suggested, you should string tighter. For your level you simply string too low, especially hybrids. I would suggest to start around 24kg and adjust from there (+- 2kg).

Point nr. 2: I would suggest no thinner than 1.25, but would lean toward 1.30 (for poly).

Point nr. 3: I would go full poly at first. After you find string that you like, you can go hybrid on crosses (any multi you already have). However, I don't think that will be necessary, but do try it to see how you like it. Maybe you will prefer a bit softer response, more power and slightly less control with hybrid, especially if you spend a lot time on court giving lessons.

Point nr. 4: I would choose Luxilon and suggest 4G, 4G soft, or Alu power. I prefer first two. As you mentioned your level and swing speed is sufficient to access full potential of 4G. You will have lots of control and feel plus it will feel soft and comfortable. I have been playing with 4G (Blade 18x20, 24/23kg) for over 3 years and last summer I wanted to find a cheaper alternative. After 2 months I figured out everything else is way worse. If you like 4G, I still suggest you try some other strings from your list to see if any of them plays better for you, but I think you will find 4G superior in basically all categories except spin potential. The former is something you produce plenty by yourself.

Let me know how it goes.

I'd suggest you hybrid the RPM power with tourbite or possibly confidential. RPM power I found is a great string for control/feel/tension maintenance. But needs to be hybrid for optimal use at least for me.
